An Australian state has asked citizens to surrender machetes at disposal bins ahead of a statewide ban on the weapons aimed at combating knife crime. Australia’s state of Victoria on Thursday announced that more than 40 machete disposal bins will be available at police stations across the state to allow citizens to safely get rid of the weapons without a penalty before the Sept. 1 ban begins. "Owning, carrying, using, buying, or selling a machete without a valid exemption or approval will be a criminal offense," the Victorian government said in a statement. The government is running a "Machete Amnesty" period from Sept. 1 to Nov. 30 to support the safe disposal

Oh, what a great idea. So clever. So caring. They did this in Britain with knife-collection bins. The sheep obediently took their pointy sharp things and put them in bins on the street, anonymously of course. And the bad guys? STOLE THE FILLED BINS! We have allowed the world to descend into its common human denominator, warring tribal factions. The high trust cultures developed over centuries of cooperative achievement have been attacked relentlessly, corroded, crumbled. Now the 3rd world low trust, "me first", "what's good for MY tribe is good", self-centered vicious, violent, thieving, cheating, stealing, "if I get away with it it's good", culture is metastasizing. Be prepared to defend yourself. No one else will.

Thirty odd years ago when learning martial arts, we were taught to use many weapons, some edged. My own specialty was to perform hyungs (kata) with twin machetes. That took a lot of practice. In the beginning, we used safe implements before being introduced to the real thing. Then, slow motion repetition, gradually increasing the speed, them adding the second weapon. When a martial artist can control two weapons simultaneously, it's pretty awesome to see. Once I saw a Tang Soo master (seventh degree black belt) with twin combat knives spinning in perfectly coordinated figure-8's, in all directions. I asked my intructor (a fifth degree black belt) what to do if faced with twin knives from a true expert. He said, "Run." I've still got my machetes. No plans to go Down Under for a demo. Related: Why do the Aussies follow the Brits on "weapon control" (and bans) when statistics clearly show that the murder rate is higher in London now than before the gun-ban that was put in place after a nut shot up a school in Dunblane in (IIRC) 1996? The only thing that has changed was the murder weapon of choice -- now a butcher knife, since guns aren't so readily available. It somehow escapes policy makers that those with murderous minds will find a weapon to do the deed and that the weapon itself doesn't matter.

Sad to see the Aussies go down the path of Total Submission. I wonder when.... or IF... . they will figure out that disarming the Citizens (which is the Government's objective) does not reduce crime. You are spot-on, #10. One of the most effective defenses against knives are the 26" sticks used in Escrima, Kung Fu, etc. With a set of those you can break a knife wielder's arms and head before he gets the knife anywhere near you. You can make a set out of a broom handle. Another good weapon is the telescoping ASP baton, which incidentally has been outlawed in some states because it is also deadly as an offensive weapon.

The same sinawali, "Heaven and Earth" movement pattern can be used with bare hands, short sticks, knives, machetes, swords, escrima or even short bo staff, if you practice the foundation movements you can use anything to accentuate it...and using something heavier than rattan builds strength and speed during practice(I use two solid steel rods) THEN you can use a walking stick/cane in one hand, something or nothing in the other, or make the cane in two pieces so both hands wield hardwood(my canes are made of rosewood, and Brazilian cherry, (If you are a frequenter of formal affairs...ebony or ironwood with a bit of gold/silver on top goes well with a Tux ;)

It is commonly believed that the Russia collusion hoax was the worst scandal in American history, and certainly it has a strong claim. But if smearing Donald Trump with Hillary-concocted lies was a major scandal, how about trying to put him in prison? Alex Marlow, editor in chief of Breitbart News, has written a book titled Breaking the Law: Exposing the Weaponization of America’s Legal System Against Donald Trump. It hits bookstores tomorrow. Marlow’s theme is that the multiple criminal and civil cases that were brought against Trump before the 2024 election were coordinated from the Joe Biden White House. The whole thing was a Democratic Party put-up job.

With efforts underway by Administrator Lee Zeldin to reform the EPA’s reputation for junk science, it is worthwhile to look back at how science became politicized within that agency. The story begins over a half century ago during the counterculture revolution of the late ‘60s when environmentalism became popular. Paul Ehrlich, who is often credited with being the founding guru of the environmental movement, became an overnight celebrity with his 1968 best-seller, The Population Bomb. But first I want to discuss something which has not received the kind of attention it deserves -- the death of the legal consequences for disparate outcomes and credentialism.

Absent sound money, a modern economy would revert to primitive barter where a cow might cost three goats. The introduction of money, at least in principle, solved relying on barter, but this also brought counterfeiting. Now, a dishonest person might debase a coin’s true value by filing off their edges or minting fake coins that replaced silver with lead. The rise of paper money similarly invited deceit -- inflation -- when cash-strapped governments just printed yet more paper currency until only the paper had value, so this “money” became wallpaper, even toilet paper. Governments thus have strict laws regarding debasing currency. When Issac Newton was appointed Warden of the Royal Mint
