A small earthquake rocked parts of New Jersey and New York on Saturday night, according to officials. The magnitude 3.0 quake struck six miles beneath the ground in Hasbrouck Heights, NJ, at 10:18 p.m., according to the United States Geological Survey. The Bergen County borough is roughly 13 miles from Midtown, with tremors reported being felt in parts of Upper Manhattan, including Hell’s Kitchen, as well as Riverdale in The Bronx and even Staten Island. No injuries or damages were immediately reported in New York City, officials said. Earth-rattling was felt for as much as 10 seconds in parts of the Garden State, one person said,

A "3" is not much for a native Californian, but it sure must have rattled the folks in New Jersey who've never felt the earth move beneath their feet. Rock on, Jersey! Rock on!

A 3 isn't a quake at all. A big truck rolling by outside can register a 3. I'm a little surprised anyone noticed at all.

# 4 - fracking can indeed cause earthquakes. I'm in Oklahoma. One day I saw a big rig of some sort going down the road. The road ends in a field and in time the rig was set up and started drilling. Around the same time we started noticing tiny little quakes. It was funny and exciting at first. Then suddenly a 5.6 hit. Nothing funny about that one. Scared us big time. A few days later the rig loaded up and left. No more quakes. Yeah, surprised me too but evidently fracking does cause quakes.

The average subsurface depth of oil and gas well hydraulic fracturing in the U.S. is 8,300 ft with a range from between 5,000 (0.95 mi) and 15,000 ft (2.8 mi). The seismic activity of the Jersey quake was at a depth closer to 32,000 feet (six miles). No operator fracks at that depth, which is typically well into hard bedrock, as opposed to the more shallow, friable sandstone, shale, and limestone formations from which practically all oil and gas are produced. The formations affected by fracking tend to be horizontal to the bore hole and not an extra three miles below the well's total depth. The last time I checked, the deepest Russian experimental well was around 40,000 ft total depth but it was not an oil or gas well and the technology to go that deep is not economically viable. Just the weight of the drill string, (miles of heavy steel drill pipe with a drill bit at the bottom end, typically 40 ft sections screwed together end-to-end, requires massive, site built (as opposed to more mobile drilling rigs) infrastructure, similar to off-shore drilling platforms.

Attorney General Pam Bondi has reportedly signed an order to launch a grand jury investigation into the origins and promotion of the Russia hoax by former President Barack Obama, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, CIA Director John Brennan, DNI James Clapper, FBI Director James Comey and more. [Tweet, video] The investigation comes after Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard released a number of declassified documents showing President Barack Obama ordered a December 2016 meeting to discuss the so-called "collusion" between then candidate Donald Trump and the Russian government to win the presidential election.

In a bold move to uphold the rule of law and ensure democratic processes aren't hijacked by partisan theatrics, the Texas House has passed a motion to issue arrest warrants for the runaway Democrats who fled to Illinois. These lawmakers abandoned their posts in a desperate attempt to block the adoption of constitutionally redrawn U.S. House maps — maps supported by President Donald Trump and designed to reflect the will of Texas voters. Rather than engage in the legislative process, these Democrats chose to obstruct it, and now face the consequences of their dereliction of duty.

Undercover officers interacted with the men, who believed they were communicating with 13-15 year old children. The alleged predators possessed condoms, guns, alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, and other drugs at the time of their arrests, according to investigators.

Abbott, in his statement, cites a 2021 Attorney General opinion (KP-0382) that could let him petition a court to declare their seats vacant. On top of that, he’s dangling the sword of felony charges, alleging their fundraising to cover $500-a-day fines might violate bribery laws. "Real Texans do not run from a fight," Abbott wrote.  The left found and crowned their legal avenger: Jack Smith, their remedy in very fine suits to four years of Trump. In secret clubhouse meetings above their parents' garage, the left whispered reverently about Smith's independence, hailed his stoicism, and grasped him as a firewall between democracy and destruction. The right, however, looked at things differently. They saw Smith as a dogged, smirking prosecutor with a habit of filing charges just before primaries and playing a game of chicken with due process. Both sides, however, agreed on one thing: he was relentless.

The Russia collusion hoax has finally been exposed as the sham it always was—a massive intelligence scandal designed to undermine Donald Trump and to protect Hillary Clinton—all with the consent and coordination of the FBI and high-ranking officials in the Obama administration, including Obama himself. Journalist Matt Taibbi, who was once a contributing editor at Rolling Stone, has put all the recently uncovered pieces of the puzzle together in a damning post on Racket News. “Now, we know,” he writes.

Migrant crossings at Panama’s Darien Gap plunged to nearly nothing in May and June, an important indicator of illegal immigration to the United States. The Darien Gap, situated between Colombia and Panama, serves as one of the world’s primary gateways for would-be illegal aliens hoping to cross the U.S.-Mexico border. This week, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that migrant crossings at the Darien Gap dropped 99.98 percent for May and June of this year compared to crossings in August 2023 — when U.S.-bound illegal immigration through that treacherous jungle had peaked. For example, in a single month under former President Joe Biden, migrant crossings at the Darien Gap exceeded 82,000.

A gerrymandered map proposed by the Texas GOP would kick firebrand Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett out of her own district and likely add more House seats to the Lone Star's Republican delegation. Last week, Texas House Republicans introduced a redistricting proposal that could net five new GOP seats. The draft congressional map, which is likely to change before approval by both state legislative chambers, aims to redraw district lines to include more Republican-leaning areas in Democratic strongholds like Dallas and Houston. Crockett, who serves Texas’ 30th Congressional District, which represents a large part of Dallas, has called the redistricting effort "a power grab to silence voters."

But that dispute soon turned into a virtual free-for-all. Numerous male and female black youths sucker-punched a middle-aged woman. Others continued to kick or body slam the victims. There were many disturbing aspects to the beat-downs. One, the violence broke out along racial and age fault lines. After the initial dispute, groups of black youths swarmed solitary older white bystanders to pound them. Two, the surrounding assembled group of black youths not only failed to intervene to restrain the bullies.

As expected, Texas Democratic legislators have fled the state to deny a quorum for Gov. Greg Abbott's redistricting push. The members flew to Illinois on Sunday, which qualifies as peak irony given that the blue state is arguably the most gerrymandered in the country. This plan was reportedly hatched with Gov. JB Pritzker (D-IL), and the 30 odd Democrats will spend at least a week there. Given what we saw when they did this in 2021, denying a quorum for an election reform vote, there is no doubt a lot of grandstanding, dramatics, and cringe singing on the way.
