There's a meme that resurfaces on social media from time to time. It says, "If a Democrat from the 1960s were to appear today, he'd be considered a conservative. If a Democrat from today were to be transported to the 1960s, he'd be considered a dangerous lunatic."
Truer words were never spoken. Once upon a time the Democrat party defended blue-collar workers, the poor, and the middle class. Not that long ago BJ Clinton and Hussein Obama spoke about the necessity of securing the border. And very recently a rallying cry on the Left was, "No one is above the law."
Times have changed. Quinnipiac now tells

Many of them threw up that hands and said, "Screw it- I'll just work to support my family and stop voting for those idiots."

I always chuckle when someone mentions the blue dog democrats. "Blue dog democrats" is nothing but a title for conservative sounding democrats who inevitably vote the party line anyway. The term simply gives a few the air of moderation, before they stab believers in the back and vote the way they're told.

Among elected politicians who identified as "blue dog Democrats," those who were moored to principles of any kind eventually left the Democrats and joined the Republican Party (e.g. Phil Gramm and Richard Shelby). Those who consistently demonstrated (via back-stabbing their voter base) that they had no principles were permitted to stay in the party (e.g. Joe Manchin). A few who came into politics as level-headed human beings had their heads re-shaped by the powers that be at the national level and became screaming banshees for leftist causes (e.g. Al Gore, who was pro-life until he was told he'd never be on presidential ticket until he "got his mind right" on abortion).
Today, openly "blue dog" Democrats are not allowed to hold elected offices at any level of government. And those "blue dogs" who used to be Democrat voters have realized that their interests are better served by being either Republican or independent.

It has long been true that John F. Kennedy, Democrat President elected in 1960 and of 'Camelot' fame, could not be a member of today's Democrat party.
The 'Rats were infiltrated and taken over by the Communists, with the opportunity provided by Lyin' Lyndon Johnson's inept performance running the Vietnam war. 'Anti-War' (actually Pro-Communist) protesters and protests became very numerous, supported every step of the way by the Lamestreams. Many of these 'protesters' stayed in college programs not for the education, but to keep their 'college deferment' and avoid the military draft. After years of hiding in the colleges, these leftists had various impressive sounding 'on paper' academic credentials, and were hired by -and eventually took over- the very colleges and universities in which they hid out from the Draft. Once in control, they pushed the colleges and universities farther and farther to the Communist 'Left'. Today many universities have apparently become less of centers of Education, and more centers of Leftist Indoctrination.

First, there is no such thing as a moderate or conservative Democrat any longer.
Second, Rahm Emmanuel worked hard to remove the few "blue dogs" a number of years ago.
Now, you get gerrymandered House districts to ensure there is no chance they can be voted out which emboldens them to say what they've been saying over the past 10 years, in particular.
I would say the Democrats are over represented in Congress based on the gerrymandered districts. The population is nowhere near as liberal and certainly not embracing socialist Democrat policies.

Where did they go? They aged out and have quite literally died off. The few that remain in my state may have leadership positions due to longevity in the legislature but their subordinates are ill-mannered and disrespectful to their elders. They are like spoiled brats raised by parents who won't discipline them. Quite sad. Democrats brought this on themselves. Unfortunately, the rest of us have to live in this world with them.

Many of the dems from the Southern United States supported Ronald Reagan's policies and were disparagingly called "Boll Weevils". Quite a few actually changed political affiliations!
It has been happening more and more these days with President Trump in similar fashion as the dems have now become the party of wackos who have policies that are more socialistic, unethical, corrupt, and immoral against traditional American values favoring Illegals and scamming tax dollars to spin cycle the money that DOGE found out about.
VERY FEW switch from republican to dem. As President Reagan said, the dem party left him by going wacko and woke. The traditional dem party is LONG GONE and its appeal is now based on race, keeping ignorant voters deceived, and using Marxist and Alinsky tactics and media propaganda to do the bidding of their candidates.
And as of yesterday, they have attempted to misuse government influence to pull a coup and create an insurrection to take out and obstruct President Trump at every turn!!
