Walmart said Thursday it plans to raise prices on some goods beginning later this month, in response to President Trump’s tariffs.
“We will do our best to keep our prices as low as possible but given the magnitude of the tariffs, even at the reduced levels announced this week, we aren’t able to absorb all the pressure given the reality of narrow retail margins,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillon is expected to say during a Thursday earnings call, according to prepared remarks obtained by several media outlets.
The U.S. and China agreed earlier this week to lower their respective reciprocal tariffs for 90 days as they look to end a bruising trade war

Walmart has already been raising prices.
Translation of their announcement: We intend to continue selling you junk from China and will do whatever it takes to keep pushing this merchandise. The knick-knacks, toys, furniture and fake jewelry will not harm you but the meat and fish are questionable. We will sell it anyway because it hasn't poisoned you yet. Any questions?

How was Walmart able to keep lowest prices while everyone was raising prices? Short answer: They couldn't .

When the majority of your stock comes from China, yes, you will be affected.

It would be tactful of them if Walmart would at least SAY that they are looking for alternative suppliers. Are they really not?

Oh no! People will have to pay more for throw away junk or pay the same for quality from somewhere else! This is terrible! And all the junk unavailable anywhere is unavailable because no one needs it. Pay down your credit cards and other de to. Stop buying Chinese trash you don't need.

I will happily pay more to get jobs back into the USA, employing Americans. Cheap Chinese goods at the cost of tens of millions of American factory jobs lost is a terrible, terrible "bargain".

The plan is to make offshore products on the same playing field as American, that is if we make them. If we don't, then we need to which will put some of our unemployed to work and off welfare. Importing goods is fine if they are not vital to our safety and well being. We shouldn't rely on that. What happens if we go to war and the ships are docked? We are SOL.

I really don't care if Walmart prices increase. I want as much manufacturing returned to the US as possible.
We need quality merchandise and American jobs.

All the Walton heirs are worth about 60 billion dollars - each. I'm sure they need the extra money to maintain their lifestyle./s My son works there. He won't shop there, tho. There is another supermarket business nearby and they are way cheaper now.

I'm old enough to remember when Walmart advertised that all their products were "Made in America."
Just so you know: The good news is that we can now identify which items came from China by their increased prices.

Asking for a friend. Did Walmart make similar announcements due to the 20%+ inflation during Brandon's tenure?

Wal Mart's prices have been steadily going up for a decade. It is to the point now where in many cases, I can buy things at my local grocery and mom and pop store for the same price or pennies more than Wal Mart.

They may have announced that, #13; but the swampy media obligingly ignored it. Kind of like they ignored Dementia Joe's obvious cognitive decline.

They have been jacking prices up for a long time, while reducing selection, service and quality. They are doing everything someone might do if they wanted to sabotage the company. Now I hear they are doing away with checkout people altogether. I dont go there much anymore as it is. This will seal the deal.

I will do a shop today online for groceries to be delivered into my kitchen tomorrow morning. I have found quality to be good, prices to be good, and service excellent. A very occasional refund is handled immediately without question.

Fortunately I live in an area with Winco Foods which have quality brands and low costs. I'll buy my produce at a better quality store, but try to save money on other groceries.

This press release is a complete "don't care" for me because I stopped shopping regularly at Walmart years ago when it became Wokemart.
