Restaurants on Lower Broadway have shut down due to fears of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)’s presence in Nashville.
Fox 17 reported that at least two restaurants closed last weekend due to the rumored presence of law enforcement.
“It’s just creating this general sense of fear all the time,” said a manager to Fox 17. “There were rumors flying around about ICE being on Lower Broadway. It was credible enough that we had to close the restaurant because back-of-house staff had to leave. Everyone split.”

A business that shuts down to protect illegals would not see a dime of my money again.
Protect American citizens. They are the people who spend their hard earned money in your restaurant.

If they were in our country legally it wouldn't scare off you back of the house serfs. How about following the law and hire real citizens of the USA? Would that be too much to ask?

If you only hired citizens you would have no worries.

Small, low-skill, service-oriented businesses will be radically impacted by mass deportations and no part of the U.S. will be spared. Owners have hired illegals for decades simply to remain competitive and with a wink of the eye by the federal, state and local governments. This mass expulsion is one of many of pieces of evidence that we have been poorly led for three or four decades. One owner called his business associates “family” and I don’t doubt that he feels protective of them but they simply don’t have any right to stay here. Maybe it’s time for high school and college kids to help their small business owning neighbors by giving up activities that cost money and work after school and summer jobs again to help keep businesses buoyant. That might give the lives of some lost young souls meaning.

Hmmmmm... Looks like you may be hiring illegal immigrants. W e will wait to you re-open and arrest them then. You will also be charged with knowingly hiring illegal immigrants, $50,000 fine, possible jail time.

It sounds as if the restaurant owners knowingly hired illegals. If so, they should be fined - severely.

The real answer to this is to start an 'Orange Card' which has a low threshold for acceptance (clean criminal record) and permits a person to work, pay taxes and freely come and go from the country. Two caveats. One, there is NO path to a Green Card and citizenship. Two, your Social Secuity (even Medicare) will be paid in the country of your birth. Bulk of the money earned by illegals goes to raising children here. My guess is 99% of the illegals in this country will jump at it. 100% Democrats will oppose it - for obvious reasons.

I'm sorry. They are in this country illegally. Deport them. Hire legals or American citizens . Businesses are hiring illegals because they work cheap and, admittedly, work hard. If they have SS cards, they are fake. Fine the businesses for hiring them. Our family maid service is legal and they despise the fact that the illegals waltz across the border, take jobs, and also receive benefits that they don't get. BTW, they all voted for Trump. If the flood of illegals from all over the world are continued to be allowed in, they will turn this country into the third world country they left. Open borders like the Dems want would also create an invasion from half the people from Africa and the Middle East.

Don't believe that it's as bad as the 'reporter' makes it out to be. For perspective check the Twitter feed of @JohnRich who owns a bar/restaurant in downtown Nashville. Reporter didn't talk to him and he reported no problem for his establishment...plenty of business. But there is no doubt that the Nashville politicos are solidly behind the illegals. It's very sad.

It wasn't lack of business that caused the closures, it was lack of illegal alien kitchen help.

According to democrats, the USA is a banana republic as opposed to a country of laws. Democrats believe in selective enforcement where immigration laws mean nothing, democrats are allowed to commit felonies with impunity, and their political opponents are imprisoned for thought crimes.

They would not be closing and loosing business, except to protect their illegal alien employees, who they must know that they knowingly hired in violation of the law?

Restaurants that hire illegals would not be in business otherwise. Illegals have become a financial substitute for good food, a good business model and good management. People with no language skills, little or no education and living below the radar are essentially indentured servants totally dependent on the whim of their employers. It’s always been about exploitation by the business community. If you have to hire illegals to make a buck, you shouldn’t be in business in the first place. There is no excuse. Keep in mind, illegals are being sent to jail, they are just being sent home to work in their own economies.

I call BS on this claim. The article claims 2 restaurants closed over a weekend. That doesn’t support the hysteria the headline is trying to create. Little Zachary sounds like a Gen Z soy boy from Vanderbilt.

Between 1928 and the late 1980s, my family business (building materials) was located on 2nd Avenue North, two hundred yards north of Broadway in Nashville's lower downtown. Our backdoor was across 1st Avenue from Fort Nashboro and the Cumberland River. Even though I've been gone for 43 years, I'm very very familiar with that part of Nashville. Last I heard, our old warehouse was an Italian restaurant. That part of town used to be the wholesale business district. Shortly after I moved to Florida, the "Bat Building" was erected across the street from our former location. Now downtown is a tony place to live and dine. My father, an employer at that location, had no patience with businesses who hired illegal aliens, believing that they should be fined heavily, and the aliens deported. He told me that in the 1970s. If restaurateurs in lower downtown Nashville are employing illegals, that's bad business. Bust 'em.

With all those closures of businesses that hire illegals, it looks like business will be booming for those who hire citizens and legal migrants. Win-Win.

Poster #8 raises an interesting point. If DJT is successful in eliminating taxes on tips, won't that encourage even more immigration, illegal and otherwise? Imaging an owner paying nothing, and illegals working for just (un-taxed) tips.

ICE is not targeting the average illegal working at a hotel or restaurant.
They are targeting those who have criminal records, have been given official deportation orders (which have been ignored for years in many cases) or affiliated with gangs.
This is their starting point and will have the most impact on improving the safety of many communities where people simply looking to improve their lives (legal and illegal) live.
