Over the years, numerous studies, speeches and books have focused on a phenomenon known as self-sabotage. The subjects are highly successful people who throw it all away by behaving recklessly when they get to the top of the heap. Think Bill Clinton with Monica Lewinsky. Overconfidence, boredom and a notorious quest for power are among the reasons commonly identified as explanations for the destructive cycle.

How come I seem to be the only who knows that Trump is using this to goad BOEING into getting off its lazy @ss and build the g*damm new AF1 already? Trump is a troll-artiste.

The plane is not being given to Trump. It's being given the Defense Department. We have given billions and billions to foreign nations. It's about time we got something in return.

And give back the Statue of Liberty while you're at it. Sheesh, The Clintons are the only ones who had their hands slapped that actually tried to keep gifts therefore they were the ones that were bribed! Right!

"Think Bill Clinton with Monica Lewinsky."
Think wildly different actions, circumstances and motivations. False equivalence much?

Sorry Mike, the only people who are 'concerned' about this are Trump critics and Trump haters. Not buying what you are selling.

Boeing can’t tie its own shoes, and the current AF1 is as outdated as Newark International’s air controller computer system. The American people own it, and the next President will thank Trump for this (backhandedly if God forbid it’s a Dem).

Michael Goodwin is a fusty old GOPe with bad hair who hasn't liked PDJT since he came down the escalator. Pence is more Goodwin's type, if you get my drift. As for this being on a par with Clinton having sex with Monica, Goodwin hits a new low. "A notorious quest for power..." Shame on Goodwin;

Frankly, I would be more concerned that the jet from Qatar would be a Trojan Horse gift. there is no way our security officials could find all the recording devices hidden around the plane or even some way for it to self-destruct when the President was aboard.

Accepting the Qatar plane is a political move against Boeing, who are major players in the Military Industrial Complex that murdered JFK, RFK, and numerous whistle blowers over the years. It is a red cape in front of a bull. Don't be stupid, Michael.
Better yet, Don't be complicit.

I don't think I will be exchanging Trump for Kamala or Chuck Schumer anytime soon. BTW, we have gifted $350 Billion to Ukraine. Over the years, we have gifted many billions to the Palestinians. The US still has the short stick on the gifting, and I would like to discontinue it. There are still billions of foreign gifting in the current big beautiful bill that Congress will pass. I wonder if Michael Godwin worries about any of that.

11's 'Pick a little, talk a little' really fits! And keep the Statue Of Liberty, but remove the Marxist propaganda appended to it. We have more than enough 'wretched refuse' already.

The only real issue is whether the gift would give the Dims any traction. A loss of the House would be catastrophic. I see no political upside, so don't take it.
But in the Category of Trump As Three-D Chess Player, if the gift keeps the Dims focused on lawfare, perhaps that's what the country is most fatigued of and would keep them drinking the deadly poison.
From a security point of view, as observed by #10, it seems like a highly difficult gift to accept. So, the whole thing could be a nonstarter, but Trump nonetheless got the Dims to drink more poison. Perhaps they will impeach him for saying he wanted to accept the gift.

Hey Mike, ya think PRESIDENT Trump going to keep the plane after he leaves office, and park it in his driveway!
Where do the clintons keep the helicopter that wa gifted to them., Billy boy uses it all the time. who pays the pilot and the fuel for the chopper? they also received a rug with their faces weaved into it. Where is it.
These gifts are made to the American people. except the clintons. they added the gifts to their china collection taken from the WH. but you fail to mention other gifts given to past presidents

This article is written for the people stupid enough to believe it.
If I was Trump I would fly around in my own plane just to goad Boeing it is newer than the present AF1.
But if the plane is received it will be the property of the United States. Not Trump, and that tick tard that wrote the article knows it.

If President Trump can get a plane with a built in McDonalds and a Diet Coke button more power to him. Bunny Sanders and AOC are flying on a private jet that costs $ 15k per hour. Who's paying for that?

I read they are gifting the plane because the US protects them militarily. Really? I wasn't aware of that but I guess Uncle Sam takes care of about everyone everywhere if you really look at it.

Regardless of whether or not taking a "gift" from Qatar in the form of a 747 to be kitted out as an AF-1 is only meant to pressure Boeing or will be converted/upgraded to carry the president, the situation brings to mind a novel written by Nelson DeMille, By the Rivers of Babylon, published in 1978. The premise of the book is that Middle Eastern (Palestinian) terrorists planted a bomb within the structure of several aircraft, Concords in the book, to later be used to thwart a Arab - Israeli peace conference when the aircraft were en route, carrying dignitaries to the conference. Warned by radio transmission that the bombs are on board, one pilot disregards the warning and his aircraft is blown out of the sky by command detonation. The other alerted aircraft makes a crash landing in the desert, where the survivors are attacked by Palestinian terrorists. The concept, once articulated, even in a novel, is impossible to unsee, as since 1978, not much has changed politically, except for our country's democrats and Ivy League institutions openly embracing Palestinian terrorism against Israeli and the U.S. Qatar is one of the more untrustworthy of the Gulf States, some of whom appear to be friendly to the US, but Qatar always comes down on the side of jihadism.

We have been receiving gifts from foreign countries since we were formed. All of a sudden we are bent out of shape about it. We taxpayers don't have to pay for a new Air Force One that future presidents will use. It is the foreign money that goes into government employees that we need to worry about.

It is a diplomatic gesture on both sides, and the people objcting to it have never achieved anything like what Trump has, and they do not speak for us all. What #1 said: Trump found a very friendly way to tell Boeing to pick themselves up. Besides which: I am not enemies of Qatar and if they appear to talk out of both sides of their mouth who are we to complain? Didn't we have USAID and IC defying POTUS? I figure it is same in Qatar and don't insult them.

Oh please.... If he was really grifting, he would have his non-profits apply for USAID grants.
I am far less concerned with an aircraft donation to the US government than I am with Boeings inability to build a single aircraft in 8 years. Aircraft carriers get built in less time.

Sooo.THIS makes the Headlines...but Qatar signing a $200Billion dollar deal with Boeing to be THE manufacturer for it's entire national airline doesn't?
Signed today.Chairman of Boeing, chairman of Qatari Air, President Trump and the Qatari ruler all on scene, on site, shaking hands....
The Jet they gifted US is a World leader outfitted, super 747 with top level defensive&communications upgrades, bigger faster engines.(slightly lower than our 2 current ones in fleet) outfitted as a copy of AF 1.... and if I recall correctly air/air refueling capable. It is not some outdated, leftover passenger plane. Trump has said several times he prefers his OWN 757 in many ways to the aged/dated AF1's. In today's Qatari "doller" the gift of this plane is very similar to the gift of prime horses to prior presidents.(and not at ALL like a chinese agent sliding an $80,000 undeclared diamond across the table when first meeting Hunter Biden, and being told that JOE Biden would be pleased)

People who support Trump don't care about this airplane mess. Remember biden bragging about his threat to a foreign entity? If you don't fire someone, you're not getting any of the US money we're funneling to you so I can get my kickback. Stop the cap, Goodwin.

The issue is not any destructive or listening devices on this plane, it is modifying it and outfitting it with the technology right for AF1. Someone needs to see what the problem is with Boeing and if they are failing, bring in Lockheed or anyone else. If the problem is Federal government red tape, cut it.
Some posters seem to think this is still the 1930s and a bomb can't be located. Between x-rays, T-rays (look it up, sees more things than X-rays) and even a good bloodhound dog. A working bloodhound can find the place on metal bleachers, days after a rainstorm, where a target sat. NO way is there a sabotage device on that plane. Our President is in more physical danger from rats at any level and someone who is sworn to protect him, than a super publicized gift.
