Gavin Newsom is coming under fire for slashing California's funding for wildfire and forest resilience by $101 million less than a year before devastating fires tore through Los Angeles.
The Democrat California Governor signed the budget cuts into law in June 2024, severing funding from seven programs focused on preventing and battling potential wildfires in the state, reports Newsweek.
Cuts included a $5 million decrease to the CAL FIRE fuel reduction teams, which included funding to pay for vegetation management work by the California National Guard, an analysis by the outlet found.

I don't think these cuts were made to benefit fish. They were made to benefit his friends and money sources, and also hurt smaller people.

A perfect storm of incredible stupidity ineptitude, political correctness and lack of common sense leadership! California, you have done this to yourself and you can ether learn and change or become a third world socialist state! Your choice!

If I ever hear Newsome's name again except for some criminal indictment it will be too soon.

Elections have consequences. Remember that when you cast your ballot.
California had two chances to send Gov Hair Gell packing. But heaven forbid CA would elect competent leaders. Gotta have that D in your title. This IS the state that gave us Kamala and Schiff.

It seems to me (and I'm probably wrong since generalizations rarely fit) that liberals are notoriously bad about making cause-effect connections.
You have to wonder, though, if the people of LA will make this connection: the lack of water, the lack of money for fire departments, the lack of sensible brush management, the lack of good leadership in fire departments, the stupidity of the governor and mayor, and so on and so forth MEANS I lost everything I have; THEREFORE . . . . these people and their idiotic policies need to GO!

Less money for brush trimming, yet more water flushed out to sea for some irrelevant fish.

Happy to be far away from this fire mess. California is going to have to figure this out, and PAY for this. I don't think that anyone in Kansas should have to pay for this disaster, as the folks in California don't pay for tornado damage in Kansas.
Clearly the hard fact that underbrush clearing was not done is a huge factor. And will underbrush clearing cease to be something that is restricted by law, and become something that is normal.
Let's not forget the idiots who call out "climate change" make it massively worse.

So, cut the very budget items that were needed to clear and manage for brush that would have reduced the impact of the recent fires in LA area, huh?
That money was spent somewhere though.

We will all pay, #11. Insurance premiums spiking and taxes to bail out California. I look for the slick pony to resign and say he has been unfairly blamed, but will step down for the "Good of the State". I am sure he has millions stashed away. He might miss the perks and toadies kissing his a** but that's about all he will suffer.

The Dems will continue to rule in CA until the number of outraged voters exceeds the number of voters with their hands out.
