AUSTIN – Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has directed that American flags on state property be flown at full staff to mark President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration next week, bypassing the national mourning period for former President Jimmy Carter.
The move has sparked both praise and criticism on social media.
On Dec. 29, President Biden ordered flags across the country to fly at half-staff for 30 days following Carter's death. On Monday, Gov. Abbott released a statement that he would be directing flags on state property to be flown at full staff on Jan. 20, Inauguration Day.

President-elect Donald Trump is full of praise for Senator John Fetterman after sitting down with the Pennsylvania Democrat over the weekend at Mar-a-Lago.
“It was a totally fascinating meeting. He’s a fascinating man, and his wife is lovely. They were both up, and I couldn’t be more impressed,” Trump said in a Sunday interview with the Washington Examiner.
“He’s a commonsense person. He’s not liberal or conservative. He’s just a commonsense person, which is beautiful,” Trump added.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) under Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas is reportedly attempting to kill the Laken Riley Act, a bill that requires the DHS to take illegal aliens who have been charged, arrested, or convicted for crimes such as theft, larceny, burglary or shoplifting into custody.
Pablo Manriquez, a news reporter, wrote in a post on X that “sources at DHS” were informing him that the cost of the Laken Riley Act was estimated to be between $20-$30 billion.
Manriquez added that the DHS sources had cited “a $7 billion figure just for beds BEFORE the mandate’s costs on local law enforcement.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has signed an executive order to suspend regulations that would impede the rebuilding process following the destructive wildfires.
The three-page executive order signed by the governor this week would aim to streamline the building permit process as well as rollback environmental regulations that would subject rebuilding to layers of time-consuming bureaucracy. The order covers all of Los Angeles and Ventura Counties, both of which were affected by the wildfires, which have been estimated to be the costliest in California history.

The insurance industry in California was already reeling from a combination of natural disasters and the political disaster known as the Democratic Party in California.
As for the former, the combination of too few controlled burns, drier-than-normal weather, and idiotic zoning regulations pushing people into fire-prone areas all contributed to a situation that only needed someone to light a match. And someone did.
The sheer idiocy of California Democratic Party officials preferring to embrace environmental posturing

Outrage is exploding over a push by numerous Democrats to get people to donate to wildfire "relief funds" facilitated through ActBlue, the party's scandal-ridden fundraising apparatus.
As RedState reported on Saturday, California Gov. Gavin Newsom made the ill-advised move to go on "Pod Save America," a far-left show run by former Barack Obama staffers, while large parts of Los Angeles County still burned. His attempt to pass the buck and paint himself as an innocent bystander amid a laundry list of government failures was bad enough, but then came the plea for donations.

Trump will be inaugurated as the nation’s 47th president on January 20, and reports indicate that he plans to arrive at the Oval Office armed with over 100 executive orders dealing with border and energy security. He met with Republican senators Wednesday and talked about his plans, and some of the participants are revealing what he said.
During a Thursday morning appearance on "Fox & Friends" Sen. Markwayne Mullin, R-Okla., said that Trump indicated that there are almost 100 executive orders to address issues like border security and U.S. energy.
"He threw that out — 100 — there could be like 100 EOs, yeah. I believe him,"

Recently, Meta (a.k.a. Facebook) CEO, owner, founder, and cyborg Mark Zuckerberg has been all over the news. First, he made liberal heads explode by donating seven figures to the Trump inauguration, making a pilgrimage from his Hawaiian mansion to Mar-a-Lago to play footsie with the president-elect. Next, he announced the biggest shift in Facebook censoring policies in years: No longer will users be banned, punished, or blocked for commenting on sensitive political issues. Hell, if you wanna call a trans person mentally ill, have at it.
Zuck even went as far as removing the tampons from the men’s bathroom. (GASP!)
And to cap it off, he appointed Trump ally Dana White

Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis, as usual, hit the nail right on the head the other day.
Fox News headlined:
DeSantis calls for media to hold Democratic California leaders accountable for wildfires: 'Have not seen that’
DeSantis said he'd like to 'see some balance' in how Democrat and Republican leaders are treated by some media
The story reported as follows, with bold print for emphasis supplied: Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis called out a reporter on Thursday for the lack of blame being placed on California leaders for the devastating wildfires, pointing out that it's in stark contrast to how Republican leaders are often treated in the wake of disasters.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) revealed that firefighters from Mexico were coming to assist with the ongoing Eaton Fire.
In a post on X, Newsom expressed gratefulness for Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s “support” as California officials “work to suppress the Los Angeles wildfires.” Newsom has received criticism from California residents who have demanded to know what he is going to do in response to the wildfires.
Newsom added that the firefighters coming from Mexico would be “joining more than 10,000 personnel already on the ground.”

Members of the Hollywood elite are having a collective meltdown in response to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announcing his company will start embracing free speech on its platforms Facebook, Instagram, and Threads platforms.
As Breitbart News reported, Zuckerberg stunned the world Tuesday when he revealed there would be major changes to content moderation policies on his platforms, citing a desire to embrace free speech and avoid censorship. The Meta CEO explained that one of his first steps will be scrapping third-party “fact checkers,” which are notorious for leftist bias.
