The Biden administration announced Tuesday that it will sell off 1 million barrels of gasoline held in case of emergencies — with the Energy Department explicitly citing an interest in keeping gas prices low over the summer driving season ahead of the November election.
The fuel will be released from the Northeast Gasoline Supply Reserve, a component of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve that was established in 2014 after Superstorm Sandy disrupted gasoline supplies in the New York City area.

Oh great. Keep draining the oil reserve and watch what happens when we have an emergency. And what happened to Biteme’s promise to replenish the reserve? Just another lie from the Fool On The Hill.

They WANT us to have nothing for emergencies. What good is an emergency if you have supplies ready to deal with it? If the cupboard is bare....then you can have a REAL emergency, and maybe declare martial law or something else "fun".

∆ Indeed. Statistics I found show US usage at around 19MM barrels/day. What's the point?

Slight correction, gas use is about 8.5MM gallons/day, 1 barrel equals 42 gallons. The SOR release provides a little over 5 days of supply.

From the article: "The US government reserve held more than 638 million barrels of crude oil when Biden took office. It currently has fewer than 361 million barrels of crude oil, according to federal data."

Victor Davis Hanson correctly predicted this a couple of weeks ago. He's also saying that the Sweater Guy is cooperating with the regime to not hit Russian oil facilities until after the election.

And after that sale, the petroleum reserve will be down to the gas left in the tank in the old Buick that's never driven in the driveway at my neighbor's house.

Nonsense. That's a tiny fraction of one day of gas use in the US.

The Biden administration said the plan was to replenish the reserve when oil dropped to $74 a barrel. The price fell to under $70, but they did not do it. More recently, the weasels said it is too expensive to refill the reserve.

Isn't there at least a flavor of treason surrounding the waste of a STRATEGIC reserve for a craven POLITICAL purpose, especially when the bad actor shut down just about every oil well in the country?
This is what we get for a stolen election. We should have taken care of this the DAY AFTER the election. Instead, we're on the road to destruction.

Google is so easy to get answers, and I can only assume its not fake:
In 2023, U.S. finished motor gasoline consumption averaged about 8.94 million barrels per day or about 376 million gallons per day

And each barrel sold for his own re-election, at the expense of national security, qualifies as another count of treason against Traitor Joe...in a sane world, that is.

Prices will go down because our government is controlling prices. Hey! It's an election year! What if all the inflation was artificially created by our government? They raised prices. They would see it as a way to increase tax revenue to combat the debt. Never mind the fact they are de-valuing the dollar in the process. They would refuse to see that.

It was announced a month ago that the three storage facilities that make up this "Regional Reserve" would be closed....it has NEVER been used since it's inception, but has cost $16Million each year just to maintain. $16/Barrel/yr for ten years=$160Milion...$160/Barrel + The original purchase price for those barrels. It isn't three stand alone Govt facilities, it is tanks at local refineries, offloading/loading docks, and storage installations owned by Mega Corps.

Biden is way past his due date on his use of 'executive orders'; Many are supposed to be supported by Congress but that is not being done. Moving oil out of the Strategic Petroleum Reserve puts the Nation at risk and doing so for purely political reasons borders on treason, in my opinion. The reserve is not supposed to be used as campaign leverage. Biden is essentially running the Country using 'executive orders' and Congress appears to be helpless.

Travel on Memorial Day is not any kind of emergency, in fact, it's now much wiser to stay home in the back yard and avoid the madness. Concerning election stunts, Biden needs to keep a Captain Obvious uniform in his closet next to his dresses.
