Iran’s stockpile of enriched uranium has expanded, and the refinement of the material is nearing weapons-grade levels, according to a confidential report by the United Nations’s nuclear weapons watchdog.
The confidential International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) report, viewed by the Associated Press, found Iran possesses 313.2 pounds of uranium enriched to 60 percent, a 45-pound increase from the last watchdog report. Uranium enriched at 60 percent in sufficient amounts is a prerequisite to producing uranium at the 90 percent needed for nuclear weapons, per the IAEA’s definitions.
