Mann v. Steyn Gets Under Way

After 12 years of wandering in the wilderness of the D.C. court system, Michael Mann’s defamation case against Mark Steyn and Rand Simberg has finally gone to trial. Opening statements were delivered today. (Snip) The case, as you likely recall, arises out of an internet post written by Simberg, which Steyn quoted and added a few comments to. The two posts drew a parallel between Jerry Sandusky, the disgraced Penn State’s administration in what amounted to a cover-up. Steyn described Mann’s famous hockey stick temperature chart–accurately–as fraudulent. Mark fired his lawyer some time ago and elected to try his case pro se.

Comments:

Mark Steyn is one of the greatest figures alive today, though mostly an unsung hero. He has stood up for free speech and the truth not just in his writings but in the court cases he has had thrust upon him, which have eaten up his resources so that he has to act as his own lawyer in this case. I wish him all the luck in the world in his defense against Michael Mann in a D.C. court with D.C. denizens as jury.

Joe Bastardi this morning on Weather Bell draws a great picture of the influence of undersea seismic activity to the rise in sea surface temps and the increase in water vapor in the atmosphere. It is certainly worth a look,

Ever so slowly, the fraud of Global Warming, AKA, Climate Change, is unraveling. It angers me to no end the ginormous waste forced upon the world to chase this lie. Mann needs to lose this LOUDLY. Because it is not really an issue of whether Steyn said what he said with MALICE. No - it is that Mann LIED and the leftist world cravenly repeated and supported his lie.

God bless Mark Steyn. I hope this goes well. It has been so long since Mann started off this whole global warming fraud, that I've talked to warmies who have never heard of Mann or his hockey stick chart. They quote the IPCC these days as if it has a direct line to god, and quote the number of scientists who contributed to it's findings regardless that over half of them, disagreed with the findings and demanded their names be removed. Mann is one of the key origin points of this political Farce.

Mann is a total fraud, yet protected by all the powers of academia, covering up his obvious "scientific" double talk, coverup and fraud.

Enjoyed listening to Mark Steyn as a guest host for Rush. The hockey stick theory that Mann presented may not actually be fraudulent since it was produced by the data points they chose to reach a desired affect. However, I believe most realize they cherry-picked data points instead of using all of what was available. Again, they wanted this sharp uptick to prove their theory, if I recall correctly.

I love Mark Steyn! He's One of the Good Guys! 'Global Warming', or as they now call it (at least the last time I checked) "Anthropogenic Climate Disruption" is, when one considers the cost it has imposed on all of Western society, truly The Scam of the Century. Think of all the regulations and restrictions that have been imposed by the various left-wing factions here in America, in Canada, in Canada, Britain, Australia, and in western Europe. Meantime, China continues to put a new, large, coal-fired electrical generating station into service every week. China now consumes 65% of all the coal consumed in the world. Next to them, India is also ramping up its coal-fired generating industry, and has declared that it has no intention of cutting back on using coal. These days over here, JFKerry (a.k.a. Lurch) and The HairSniffer are doing their best to force everyone (except themselves, of course) to drive firetrap electric cars, eat bugs, etc., etc., etc. The whole thing is the largest and most expensive scam in history...at least to my knowledge. If any of you L-dotters know of a bigger scam, please chip in!

Absurdistan has to take a victory lap here - celebrate the wins! The Securities and Exchange Commission has abandoned the idea of monetizing America’s National Parks and public lands and selling them to whoever wanted a piece, leaving outfits elected by hedge funds to manage ‘biological diversity’, ‘health’, safety and access. Hedge funds are pirates, the least likely to care about those lands, and who knows how they would broker them off once public attention fades. To America’s worst enemies, who would love to screw the most envied country that has ever existed, is my guess. Add this to the killing of an equally stupid scam of burying carbon

Good grief — it’s been over three months, and writers are still expressing shock, surprise, and outrage that Muslims murdered, mutilated, raped, and tortured Jews on 10/7. (Snip) Because it will happen again, I suggest the following to prevent future shock, surprise, and outrage. First, recognize the cause of 10/7. Although it is comforting to believe that Hamas, a specific group in a relatively small area, was the cause of 10/7, this is incorrect. The snarky among you will quickly respond that Hezb’allah and Iran were also responsible. This is also incorrect. The correct answer is that Islam was the cause of 10/7.

A local buyer taking over a struggling newspaper in the 21st century is normally cause for some celebration. But The Baltimore Sun’s newly announced owner has a very specific political background, and some are concerned about what the 187-year-old publication could become. David D. Smith, executive chairman of the Sinclair broadcasting chain and an active contributor to conservative causes, has bought Baltimore Sun Media from the investment firm Alden Global Capital. The purchase price was not disclosed. Smith met with Sun employees on Tuesday to talk about his plans, saying he hopes to make the newsroom more profitable. He was not made available for an interview with The Associated Press.

This bit of news actually surprises me. It doesn’t surprise me that the Hostages and Missing Families Forum would create a powerful and published public service announcement (“PSA”) highlighting what happened in Israel on October 7 and the ensuing hostage crisis. What does surprise me is that movie theaters across America, as well as Hulu (a Disney-owned company) will be showing it in the coming days as part of the trailers they routinely screen before running a picture or TV show. The PSA is filmed to look like the trailer for an upcoming thriller or horror movie. It ends by reminding viewers that this is the real horror that Israel

Now that Claudine Gay is out as Harvard's president on evidence that she plagiarized research and failed to counter antisemitism on campus, Harvard's elites are steaming with fury. They had, after all, signed a letter urging that the university keep her and her wokester policies on board. But that wasn't the worst of it. The biggest indignity was in the knowledge of who took her down: Not a top Harvard scholar but a lowly Harvard night school student with the equivalent of a master's degree named Christopher Rufo, writing on his humble Substack. He was the one who found the plagiarism. And here's a Harvard professor who let the cat out of the bag:
