Absurdistan has to take a victory lap here - celebrate the wins! The Securities and Exchange Commission has abandoned the idea of monetizing America’s National Parks and public lands and selling them to whoever wanted a piece, leaving outfits elected by hedge funds to manage ‘biological diversity’, ‘health’, safety and access. Hedge funds are pirates, the least likely to care about those lands, and who knows how they would broker them off once public attention fades. As usual, she doesn't get to the subject matter in the title for a while, but it's all great stuff, including a lot of history I knew nothing about.

I haven't read the article yet, but just looking at the headline, the whole history of mankind involves people conquering other people and claiming the land. It's not "stealing". It's like the whole "native American" argument. They didn't sprout of the ground organically. They came here like everyone else and claimed the land. It's not their "native land". If that's not what the article is referring to, I aplogize. Going to read it now!

This is a good instance of how we need to get back control of our schools Generations of students have no clue that one huge reason the stolen land claim is BS is there were very few Indians left by the time European settlers populated the Eastern seaboard and started moving west. Smallpox and other European infectious diseases began decimating native populations from the early 1600’s. Squanto left for 10 year and when he returned there was nothing left- his family was gone, his village vanished, just gone. We need to return to giving our young people good educations, teach them history and teach them to think. The huge bison herd that was killed off after the Civil War that we’re supposed to feel guilty about? It hadn’t existed forever. It happened because there weren’t enough Indians left to manage the herd. They had to be removed to make room for cows. Bison don’t make good cattle as they’re not domesticated. And… they probably cases the 1930’s dust bowl by overgrazing the plains in the 1800’s.

Ya know that world wide scourge that killed Millions starting in the 1500's? Syphilis? It was unknown in the "Old World", it was a north american native disease that was then carried around the globe by the Spaniards, to where those widespread and innocent "Indigenous peoples" had no natural immunity to it.

The last organized surrender of Confederate soldiers at the end of the American Civil War were the Cherokee regiments. The last (legal) owners of slaves in this country were The Five Civilized Tribes. The big dispute between the Five Civilized Tribes and the Jackson Administration was due to the amount of money the Tribes would be paid by the US Government to recompense them for the slaves they had to give up when moving to Indian Territory- where slavery was illegal. The Cherokee Freedmen- descendants of Black slaves owned by Cherokees- only recently were awarded tribal status in 2016- after a lawsuit against the Tribe was successful- that had been going on since the abolition of slavery-150 years later.

EAST PALESTINE, Ohio — The sleet and rain were unforgiving here on Feb. 22, 2023, the day former President Donald Trump came to this small Columbiana County village. Despite the weather and concerns about what was in the air or what kind of chemical was lurking in the pools of mud they were walking in, folks by the hundreds lined up along Main Street as Trump’s motorcade filled with state and local law enforcement sirened its way into town. (Snip) Vance told me that Trump did a great service to the residents of East Palestine by forcing the political class to care about them. “His visit filled the leadership vacuum

Can Nikki Haley read the room? Apparently not. With the New Hampshire primary just two days away, on Sunday she played the race card in a big way, making outlandish and implausible claims about her youth in South Carolina. Whose votes is she trying to win? Those of patriotic voters who are thoroughly sick of charges of “racism” being used as a weapon or those of the entrenched Washington establishment that weaponized those charges? The answer isn’t even close to being in doubt. Haley came out big for identity politics saying: “We were the only Indian family in our small southern town. I was teased every day for being brown.

The nation’s ruling class holds deeply authoritarian opinions widely divorced from the rest of the American electorate, finds a survey out this week. It found nearly 60 percent of American “elites” think there is too much individual freedom in America. Meanwhile, nearly 60 percent of registered voters have the exact opposite opinion, reporting the United States has too much top-down control, limiting liberty. The study from the Committee to Unleash Prosperity found ruling class opinions on climate policies were particularly harsh and despotic. More than two-thirds of the 1 percent support rationing vital energy and food sources in an attempt to control the globe’s weather.

After 12 years of wandering in the wilderness of the D.C. court system, Michael Mann’s defamation case against Mark Steyn and Rand Simberg has finally gone to trial. Opening statements were delivered today. (Snip) The case, as you likely recall, arises out of an internet post written by Simberg, which Steyn quoted and added a few comments to. The two posts drew a parallel between Jerry Sandusky, the disgraced Penn State’s administration in what amounted to a cover-up. Steyn described Mann’s famous hockey stick temperature chart–accurately–as fraudulent. Mark fired his lawyer some time ago and elected to try his case pro se.

Good grief — it’s been over three months, and writers are still expressing shock, surprise, and outrage that Muslims murdered, mutilated, raped, and tortured Jews on 10/7. (Snip) Because it will happen again, I suggest the following to prevent future shock, surprise, and outrage. First, recognize the cause of 10/7. Although it is comforting to believe that Hamas, a specific group in a relatively small area, was the cause of 10/7, this is incorrect. The snarky among you will quickly respond that Hezb’allah and Iran were also responsible. This is also incorrect. The correct answer is that Islam was the cause of 10/7.

A local buyer taking over a struggling newspaper in the 21st century is normally cause for some celebration. But The Baltimore Sun’s newly announced owner has a very specific political background, and some are concerned about what the 187-year-old publication could become. David D. Smith, executive chairman of the Sinclair broadcasting chain and an active contributor to conservative causes, has bought Baltimore Sun Media from the investment firm Alden Global Capital. The purchase price was not disclosed. Smith met with Sun employees on Tuesday to talk about his plans, saying he hopes to make the newsroom more profitable. He was not made available for an interview with The Associated Press.

This bit of news actually surprises me. It doesn’t surprise me that the Hostages and Missing Families Forum would create a powerful and published public service announcement (“PSA”) highlighting what happened in Israel on October 7 and the ensuing hostage crisis. What does surprise me is that movie theaters across America, as well as Hulu (a Disney-owned company) will be showing it in the coming days as part of the trailers they routinely screen before running a picture or TV show. The PSA is filmed to look like the trailer for an upcoming thriller or horror movie. It ends by reminding viewers that this is the real horror that Israel
