Teachers ‘Scared to go to School’

Stacey Sawyer taught 8th grade in Cape Coral, FL. Taught is the key word. Sawyer, 55, quit her job in June due to student violence and the fact that they hardly ever face punishment. [Snip] “It was getting to the point that it was scary. There were a few days that I was scared to go to school,” [Snip] Sawyer taught for 30 years. Student behavior problems began before the COVID pandemic, but those involved in schools said the shutdowns escalated the problem: [Snip] “Now, now, Joey. That was not nice. Don’t do it again!” Or they’ll talk about feels and emotions, coddle the students.

The very best “resource” for raising children is to be found in the greatest “book” ever written, The Bible; it has been referred to by some as "Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth". In the words of an anonymous individual, “God knows children and He knows what you need to do to bring them up right. Parents are either going to prepare their children to follow Christ or to follow the world. If we don’t teach our children to follow Christ, the world will teach them not to.” “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6) “Do not hesitate to discipline a child. If you spank him, he will not die. Spank him yourself, and you will save his soul from hell.” (Proverbs 23:13-14) “The rod and rebuke bestow wisdom, but an undisciplined child brings shame to his mother.” (Proverbs 29:15) “Discipline your child, and he will give you rest; he will bring you happiness.” (Proverbs 29:17) Had more parents in the last 50-60 years taken heed, perhaps the current untenable disaster running rampant might not have occurred and might have curtailed or abolished the use of drugs by children growing into restless adults seeking something elusive in their lives, with that something elusive being found in the serenity of faith in God—and those parents might have saved the souls of those children from hell. (Proverbs 23:13-14)

I tried a mid-life career change to teaching...teaching kids who wanted to learn was a pleasure. Trying to manage a bunch of kids who didn't want to be there, some with parole officers, and some who threatened my life, all at half the pay I was getting before going into teaching, drove me right out of the profession. Trust me when I tell you: homeschool or band together with like-minded families and hire a teacher. Public school and most private schools are a lost cause.

obama set the stage for equity in punishment. No black students could be punished (no matter what he'd done) unless an equal number of white and Asian students were also punished. So, here we are, schools full of bullies and no legal right to deal with them.

The problem did start under Obama. All of a sudden you couldn't make a student feel bad, no punishment for anything. I was recently shocked to learn there are no more spelling tests!

I used to work in schools a lot. It was easy to tell the competence of the Principal by watching the behavior of the students when the bell rang to change classes. If the Principal is a coward the students are running the institution.

#9 nails it. The public school system worked long and hard to remove discipline, effective education and the separation of children who were there to learn from children who would rather be zoo animals. Most parents no longer raise children to have respect for anything and many teachers seem more concerned with the paycheck and benefits than in providing a proper education. School boards are carefully and routinely filled with people who are supportive of the public school system instead of with the application of a proper education. In my day there were Reform Schools for those children who were unruly and acted like baboons. Integration and dumbing down standards worked out wonderfully, didn't it?

I can attest to this. My DIL just gave her notice after 12 years of teaching middle school at a suburban school, not inner city. She said she just can’t take it anymore. She describes the situation exactly as #2 does. When she gave her notice, the principal said that they had just had a meeting the previous day on why their teachers were quitting and what they needed to do to remedy the situation. In my DIL’s case they wanted her to stay, so asked about a number of other options, including Library Science, saying that they would pay for any schooling involved. That’s how badly they need good people. If you were a student these days and witnessed how your fellow students treated their teachers, would you want to go into teaching?

What many teachers experience is a hostile work environment, but their unions aren't doing anything about it which is the main job of the union - to protect their members work environment. Imagine in Baltimore they have some school where NO ONE is able to read or do math at grade level. Not even 1.

Right. We’re all going to save our country[Snip]Fast forward to Donald Trump, same thing: America first and a peace maker--for bringing the troops home, saving the tens of billions of dollars that would have gone into those pointless wars, striking peace agreements in the Middle East, the Abraham Accords, historic, historic peacemaking. They can’t have that, cannot have it. The forces we are up against are so dangerous, they will destroy, they will ruin. They will kill you. And this is what I mean about the spiritual nature of the battle that we are in. This is a spiritual war.

Experts say the Jorō spider can fly 50 to 100 miles at a stretch, using their webbing as a parasail to glide in the wind, and it's now also hitching rides up east coast highways--but the creatures aren't known to pose a threat to humans or pets.
