Curing Jews of Leftism

Original Article

Holocaust-2 that broke out in Israel on October 7 may suddenly have a positive impact on many left-liberal American Jews. The recent tragic events will cause an upheaval in liberal heads and shift their political mindset to the right: the American Jews will wise up, move away from a liberal worldview, and become more conservative. I will try to explain this seemingly unexpected prediction. From the 8th century B.C. to the middle of the last century, Jews have been persecuted and periodically expelled. Unlike many other peoples, who sometimes were also persecuted by their neighbors, the Jews until 1948 did not have their own country,

In the minds of American Jews, Republicans are the party of white gloved country club WASPS. And Democrats are the redeemers of the middleclass. In their minds Democrats are instrumental in extending government protection to minorities in face of Christian America. It is very difficult to erase this view and bring them to reality. Let us hope Oct 7 does it. But I doubt it.

While all his predictions seem logical, sensible survival oriented and normal......I remain skeptical. If the effects of WW2 didn't teach Jews to value individual freedom over government control and government "solutions", I doubt that this will make a dent. We keep hearing how smart Jews are, and on many fronts the evidence is clear that they are, but politically, there is some bizarre blind spot that seems to prevent them from moving away from "the government is here to help me" mentality, even after they were herded into cattle cars and exterminated by one government.

"Leftism is a mental disorder" is descriptive to some but very off-putting to others. Reciprocity calls for us to accept other views as having equal value to ours, whether one or the other be more true or not. But if "ye may know a tree from its fruits", then such answers beg the question... what is it in a person's character that leads them to believe so firmly in things that are demonstrably so destructive?

I'd like to think the author's assumptions will come to fruition but it might take more than the atrocities of October 7th to wake liberal Jews from their complacency. The pro Palestine protests of late, and the hate that comes with those protests, should be a teachable moment for American Jewish liberals. If they can't see where all the anti-Semitic hate is coming from then they're not paying attention. Let's hope that the trickle of Jews moving to the right, after seeing the true face of liberalism, will become a flood.

That's not going to happen, at least not on any measurable scale. Hard core leftism is a mental disorder that does not respond to mere reality. Most will simply become even more deranged.

Not going to happen. Leftism is a much stronger religion than Judaism to those folks. There is no such thing as a "leftist Jew." They are thoroughly devoted to leftism - - without a smidgen of religious Judaism. American leftists will never vote for a Pubbie.

Orthodox Jews and Israeli Jews favor the Republican Party by a wide margin. With Reform, Conservative, and Reconstructionist Jews ("Judaism Lite"), it goes the other way. For many in the latter category, left-wing politics is their true religion. Sadly, there is a similar split in many Christian denominations -- religiously devout conservatives vs. woke leftists who think Democrat talking points are religious precepts.

Sorry, wishful thinking! It's not going to happen! Tom Wolfe revealed in "Radical Chic" (1970) how the NY Jewish elite was shocked to find that their chic Black Panthers supported the PLO, wanting to destroy Israel. But apparently Jews forgot this lesson. Now here we are, 50 years later: BLM supports Hamas? Who knew?? Wolfe practically slapped them across the face with this widely-read essay.
