More parents are likely going to give their babies “gender-neutral” names in 2024, an expert is predicting.
Baby name expert Steph Coffield is anticipating “surnames as first names” and gender neutrality on U.S. birth certificates next year, the New York Post reported on Monday. The 40-year-old Minnesota-based baby name consultant also credited growing “acceptance of non-binary people” as a contributing factor. “I’m seeing a lot of whimsical, gender-neutral surnames being given as first names,” Coffield told Yahoo.“The way things are going, with more acceptance of non-binary people, parents aren’t afraid to give boys softer more feminine names. We’re already there with girls being more masculine,

My grandfather's name was Leslie. Bob Hope was Leslie Townes Hope. John Wayne was Marion Morrison.
I can think of several names that can be used for men or woman. Tracy and Stacy are two. I like good old fashioned names like Elizabeth and Michael. Trendy names tend to date you.
Speaking of hippie names, David Bowie named his son Zowie. When Zowie got old enough he changed his name to Duncan Jones. Much better.

If this happens, hopefully will be a brief fad. Unfortunate for the children affected, who are already handicapped by parents who fell for the fad.

My grandmother had lady friends named Edna, Myrtle, and Bernadette. One older neighbor was Hortense. Those names haven't staged a comeback yet.

Don't forget Bertha, #3, ruined by the guns of WW1 I think. I remember a case in law school involving a Brit whose car was named Madam Hortensia; I think a crane dropped a load of bricks on it accidentally.
Here's some gender neutral names. Pat. It. Thing. AC-DC. Not In Any Gear. Mono. You Don't Say.

Stories like this reinforce that little children who are supposedly “trans” are no different than cats or dogs who are supposedly “vegan”. It’s their adult who has chosen it for them. The child, like the pet, has no choice in the matter.

Genderless names shouldn't surprise anyone. Next time you're working out or in a place where young demographics gather take a look around. Smart phones, ear buds, fitness watches..we are REALLY moving into a genderless, colorless cultural-ess, borderless OneWorld where our daily actions are A-I generated and we all equal worldwide "units" working feverishly together to save our Planet.
Think I'm kidding? Look around.

I suppose there are some names given to children but not for the reason that the name is gender neutral
But if a parent give the child a gender neutral name with the idea that the child can choose it's gender, those parents are nut jobs.
There are 2 genders and the child is given one in the womb. That one is the gender the child is.
Period.

My father & mother (yes they were married to each other) named me William. One can find such names in the Bible. My sister was named for another saint (yes my parents were stil married to each other). John came along later with another saint's name. We like our names...and the involved saints pray for us too. Give it a try!

Small correction, #10. The sex of the child is given at conception. Gender applies only to grammar.
Our newest grandson is named Ezekiel. No explanation needed.

Our dumbed down children should be allowed to pick their own gender. This is not how things work.

Most of my friends, growing up in the 50's and 60's were named, Kathy, Linda or Susan. My daughters, born in '69 and '70, in their classes half of the girls were named, Jennifer, Lisa, Michele or Julie. It's funny how you can date a person by their name. You rarely hear these names today.

What a silly article. The author states that gender neutral names are on the rise, and in the next paragraph says that traditional names are, too. The list of the most popular names for boys and girls is no different than it’s been for the last 30 years.

We named our daughter Bailey. We got the name from the cute normal girl character from WKRP. This was 35 years ago. It was a very rare name until that stupid show Party of Five then it became very popular.

I'm from a big Catholic family. We are all named after saints (or the Blessed Mother). I love each and every name my parents chose. Believe it or not, the name "Mary" is coming back (a little bit). Those were the days my friends......
