The statue of Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee that was at the center of the deadly 2017 white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Va., was secretly melted down last week to be remade into a more inclusive artwork.
The bronze equestrian statue of Lee, which featured prominently in the 2017 Unite the Right rally, was incinerated in a 2,250-degree furnace Saturday, according to the Washington Post.
It was cut into nine pieces, weighed about 6,000 pounds and required a forklift to move.
It was melted down and then molded into a brick-like casting.

And tearing and melting this statue down is going to save how many black lives?

Something more inclusive? Probably a Mt. Rushmore type sculpture of the squad. Erasing history. Creating victims. Disgusting.

Re #1. American Taliban indeed. This reminds me of the two Buddhist statues that were blown up by the Taliban in 2001. Those statues were over 1000 years old. They were deemed 'offensive' too.
They are going to use the remains of the Robert E. Lee statue to make a more 'inclusive' statue. Pray tell, what will that be? Guaranteed, it won't be inclusive.

What’s wrong with these people can never be made right by a melted statue.

That's why black murders and criminality are down. We should have removed the statue sooner so we could all live as civilized human beings.

Shameful: Absolutely shameful to take this statue and turn it over to the haters to melt.

The lack of understanding of our history by this group of idiots is appalling. Yes, Lee was the face of the Confederacy but he was also the face of the nation uniting after the bloodiest war in our history where brother fought brother. He is the symbol of families reuniting under a common flag and becoming one nation under God. Only a fool destroys their own history. Learning from it is the most important thing we can do.

Throughout the history of human conquest, I believe conquering statues is pretty much at the bottom of the list.

Not being from VA, I don't really know a lot of the History of this Statue, but I am wondering who paid to have it made and who paid to have it placed where it was. Whoever it was who removed it should have gone to Jail. I doubt they had any rights at atll to displace it and finally have it melted down. IMHO the people who melted it should go to jail. Who exactly gave them the go ahead to do such a thing? Lots of folks here should go to jail. I think the Governor should get involved in this and make them pay for what they did!

Hard to fathom. The statue of General Lee has been removed and destroyed. The pictures of Aunt Jemima and Uncle Ben have been removed for packages of pancake mix and rice. Little Black Sambo has been removed from libraries and replaced with advice to pedophiles. And we still don't have world peace. What's going on?

That statue was a work of art with its subject the very model of a fine Southern gentleman and patriot of States' Rights. This was a cowardly act of thug "wokies" who have confirmed their disgusting anti-American ideals. They GLADLY melt down a work of art statuary, regarding major piece of American history, while they adamantly defend disgusting displays of Satanism, such as, "Drag Queens," or that infamous Mason jar of urine containing a crucifix entitled, "Pis* Chri*t," which I shan't even print. The Leftists are coming very close to the point where even we won't be able to save them from their lunacy. They will be delivered over to their own lusts as well as to their "leader," who is also known as "Satan."

It should be left as a block of bronze. That's about as inclusive as it gets while making a statement about the mediocrity of woke culture.

It'll be made into something homosexual like a large phallic symbol, a tribute to George Fentanyl, or a stupid "Coexist" emblem.

Lee died in 1870. He never saw, or even knew, of this statue was ever erected, much less taken down.
And I suspect General Lee would have been more upset with the former, rather than the latter.
