A new report on the aftermath of the Issue 1 vote in Ohio finds that radical abortion activists spent almost $67 million buying the vote. The incredible level of spending, with significant amounts of dark money coming into Ohio from out of state and out of the country, raises questions about whether the Issue 1 vote accurately depicts the will of Ohio voters or merely reflects an inordinate amount of leftist spending to buy votes. [Snip] Meanwhile, Ohio exit polling shows that one third of those who voted for Issue 1 don’t support abortions up to birth and voted for the measure to preserve

OP brings up the two main weapons wielded by the Left against us; money and messaging. For three generations the Left has had an endless supply of captured foundations and wealthy donors, as well as the propaganda media in their pocket. It appears they are at the apex of their power. While the article ends with the well intentioned advice to emphasize the great things Dobbs accomplished in saving babies, to identify and turn out more voters, and find more large donors to overcome the fundraising disparity; those are all actions that I'm sure are being done. Pro-life activists are not sitting around filing their nails. I've been involved in this movement.
I think the root of the problem with our citizenry is timidity, whether someone professes a religious creed or not. We have too many timid Christians, Jews, Eastern Sects and unbelievers. (The Muslims seem to be outgoing enough.) Modern people have been lulled into letting others lead them, think for them, and make the rules for them. We have to go about our work in a new way, each of us in our own way. My favorite tactic are comments about magazine headlines in the supermarket check-out line, or about prices, or..... Public spaces are a fertile field for a well-placed educational moment. Also fine tune your radar for those fleeting moments with a casual friend when a more serious topic may be developed instead of tossing off flippant remark. Don't be afraid to have serious conversations with your family, friends and neighbors.

Poster #1 is right. I have a dear friend, Catholic, who thinks she is pro-life, but she's one of those who say that they would never have an abortion but can't impose her values on other people. During the Cavanaugh hearings people were concerned about abortion and the number of abortions already performed came up. At that time around 63 million. My friend called me, shocked, and asked if that was true. I told her it was and that of those 63 million, 40% were African American babies. She hasn't spoken to me since then about abortion but I do think she has changed her mind a bit about her attitude towards it. It pays to stay calm and know the facts to give to people when they are questioning the lies told by the pro-aborters.

This out-of-state, out-of-country stuff has GOT to STOP! Honestly, our elections are being stolen right out from under us. I don't see how any campaign finance law that clamps down on that would thwart our 1st amendment.....these out-of-state, out-of-country people don't have any right to influence the outcome of a state's legitimate election!!

# 2, I have found that when conversing with one of those "personally opposed, but" types a comparison to slavery can sometimes be effective. Point out that back in the day many white people, north and south, detested slavery but were reluctant to "impose morality" on the entire country. And that is why the "peculiar institution" remained legal in America for two and a half centuries.
It may induce a few people to reflect on the moral inadequacy of their take on abortion. (Of course, they have to be open to reflection to begin with).

I have a real hard time believing there are enough people that would donate $67 million of their hard earned money being in just one State to such a cause, especially in such a bad economy.
I don't have a hard time believing money being sent to places like Ukraine is being funneled back to organizations like this.

I don't understand how anybody can't realize that the nation can't survive a welfare thug population explosion of fatherless crack babies who grow up to burn down cities.

The pro-abortion crowd has done a masterful job convincing the voters that abortion is a woman's right issue, not an ending of a life issue. The pro-life crowd should focus on talking about the post abortion impact on women (divorce, substance abuse, suicide, inability to have more children). Also, take the gloves off and make a (simulated) video of a late term abortion. Put the evil reality in front of people. Push those who voted yes in Ohio out of their comfort zones.

FTA: "Ohio exit polling shows that one third of those who voted for Issue 1 don’t support abortions up to birth and voted for the measure to preserve very rare exceptions such as rape, incest or life of the mother."

#3 has the right idea in my opinion. If money did not affect election results then people wouldn’t waste theirs by spending so much on them. I most of the money came from out of state then how was this considered an Ohio election?

First and foremost get the dark money out of ALL of our elections. Period. Will someone on Congress please take this up?! I do not want some Swiss billionaire influencing any election in this country. That has to stop!
Second, can we please starting talking about personal responsibility? If you are going to have sex, you must take responsibility and understand that a baby could very well be conceived from the act you are going to do. Also, start talking up birth control. It is readily available and should be used if you are sexually active. This applies to women and men. Men are not exempt from the responsibility they create.
Third, do not stop running ads regarding the truth about abortion. Sometimes we need to see the unvarnished truth that an innocent baby is being dismembered, burned, tortured, and experiences pain. Do not sugar coat this horrific reality. While we may have legalized it, that does not mean that minds cannot be changed and females will choose life. We cannot abandon the issue just because the law says it is legal. Morally, we know that it is wrong. Hearts and minds can be changed.

In the end, people will choose to follow Jesus, or not.
Regardless of laws, presidents, dictators, employers, friends...
Maybe this is what He meant, when He said, "He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me."
And again, "And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another."

Everyone knows money improves electoral chances. Stop wishing/pretending it isn't so. Instead of wringing your hands and posting useless Internet messages about America's moral decline, find someone who knows how to raise money, advertise, and message (yes, there are plenty of people on the GOP side not named Ronna McDaniel who can do that), and get going on a constitutional amendment for the next time you can place abortion on the ballot.

#1 and #11 hit on the heart of the problem - dark money has figured out how to condition the human mind to achieve a desired outcome. And it is done right out in the open. Modern-day group think has replaced self-responsibility and self-thought. Yes, social timidity has metastasized because many folks are too busy to be fully in charge of themselves and to be properly informed. A +50 percent divorce rate in America further limits the proper nurturing of our young people so that they can achieve the moral and spiritual high ground.
The question - what to we do about it? I'm searching for the answers.

To #2’s point, I was at mass several years ago, and the Jesuit pastor was lecturing the congregation about the violence against abortion clinics. At one point, he said, “Both pro-life and pro-choice Catholics believe in the sanctity of life.” I was stunned, as the congregation applauded. After the mass, I approached this priest outside and told him I was confused by his statement. I felt like a memo went out to Catholics about a change in doctrine that I didn’t get. He became immediately defensive and irritated, as he replied that he should have said we all believe abortion is murder, but pro-choice Catholics simply believed the government should stay out of it. He then dismissed me. Interestingly enough, this priest left the order a few years later, declaring the Church wasn’t progressive enough, but in reality, he had a honey pot on the side.

You know what? I am personally SICK of excuses. It's NOT like this is something NEW. For, what, 20 YEARS at least we have sat back and whined and moaned that the media won't give us a fair shake, or the Dems are buying votes or or or or... we "catch " them in a fraudulent act and we say, "Aha! See???" but it goes nowhere and that's apparently OK with us.
You can't tell me we cannot find A SINGLE resourceful, creative, and wealthy Pubbie out there in TWENTY years who can figure out some way to successfully handle the media??? Humor is effective, why not start some late-night conservative talk shows or humorous conservative podcasts? Check out international markets with success in achieving unbiased reporting and following their lead! Make a point of consulting with GEN X,Y, and Z voters. The LBGTwhatevers have their advocates. WE have ALLOWED the Dems to create a society where people are elevated to celebrity status based on who does or says the MOST OUTRAGEOUS thing---and then we let the media distort it so it sounds like everyone's doing it. WE have accepted the faulty idea that's it's OK to judge yesterday's events with today's eyes.
Who would want to join a group of losers who can't shoot straight? We have to ORGANIZE as a self-defined group and have a plan to reshape our image---or I'm afraid 2024 will be another fake red tsunami.

This was california, soros and the ACLU funding the election The lies and half truths were in every commercial on TV and radio The ads were aimed at peoples emotions. Not reality of what the pro-abortion people were really pushing. Parents will no longer have the parental right to stop the government from keeping their own daughter from having an abortion. Seethelanguage.com explained the proposed bill, but very few people saw it. Now these death to the unborn supporters are going to go after every state in the union. I am tired of my taxes going to pay for abortions. Any abortion. As for the people who say they oppose abortion but do not believe it right of them to say anything about another person having one, is just a lazy excuse. It is a moral issue. And it's the same argument that pelosi biden and many other dems use to support abortion. to those I reply that they have no morals and should not be in government leadership roles.

#1,#3, #10,11,#16,#22~ Thank you. Excellent observations and analyses.
~ Dark and Out-of-State Money / Whether through state or federal legislation, it may be time to declare such monies illegal.
~ Advertisements / Liberals have mastered the art of playing on emotions rather than intellect resulting in group-think messaging. Republicans need to sharpen their skills to turn that ploy against them.
~ Personal Responsibility, Timidity / Personal Responsibility: Unfortunately, “personal responsibility” seems to be elusive in today’s paper-plate, throwaway society as tragically evidenced by throwing away babies in the womb. It is quite likely impossible, but part of the answer to encourage/exhibit the need for and dignity of personal responsibility may require a major shift in the entertainment world to move away from blood and guts, vulgarity, promiscuity, vile language, sexual exhibitionism and restoring true values of life—life with dignity and purpose. / Timidity: Indeed, pro-life advocates should not be shy about sharing their pro-life values and initiate or take advantage of circumstances that present opportunities to share those pro-life values.
~ Lawmakers: Taxes, Timidity / Taxes: It may be time to review and possibly restore the Hyde Amendment to its original prohibition of using federal funds for abortions. That legislation was revised in 1993 to “expand the category of abortions for which federal funds became available under Medicaid to include cases of rape and incest.” While there is justifiable compassion for such cases, the reality of less than honorable ethics in the medical profession may be more permissive than the letter of the law. If women/men must pay for abortions out-of-pocket, birth control may become a more serious consideration. / Timidity: Laws have been written that may force some citizens to go against their conscience. Abortion and other means allowing humans to kill humans violate “natural and moral laws that form the foundation of society.” People of faith, people of conscience, "must oppose actions that authorize abortion, the taking of innocent life, and cannot stand silent when legislators who are elected to protect citizens pass laws and advocate for legislation that undermines the sanctity of human life.” While Democrats go full throttle for abortion, Republicans have a history of timidity; timidity has gotten them nowhere except to continue to dance around the edges of the issue and continue trying to avoid a bold commitment to endorsing the sanctity of life be it cradle to grave.
“Silence in the face of evil is itself evil: God will not hold us guiltless. Not to speak is to speak. Not to act is to act.” “The ultimate test of a moral society is the kind of world that it leaves to its children.” (Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a Lutheran pastor, theologian, anti-Nazi dissident, known for his staunch resistance to the Nazi dictatorship that included vocal opposition to Hitler's euthanasia program and genocidal persecution of the Jews. Pastor Bonhoeffer, at the age of 39, was hanged on April 9, 1945 as the Nazi regime was collapsing.)

Pro-abortion money outspent anti-abortion money $19 million to $7.7 million on television in the closing weeks of the election, nearly a 3:1 advantage. The article’s first sentence raises the very question being asked by pro-life Ohioans about buying the vote, as well as questioning the extent ballot language confusion may have contributed into passage of the amendment rather than an accurate representation of Ohio’s electorate.
