Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) is offering Democrats subpoena power in exchange for their help in ousting House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), Politico reported Friday. “He’s been talking to everybody about [ousting McCarthy],” Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, told Politico. “I told him in our caucus, in the Progressive Caucus, we’re not planning to save McCarthy — for a whole host of reasons.” Gaetz denied talking to Democrats about such an effort, insisting he was working to kill the short-term spending bill McCarthy successfully ushered to passage Saturday. But Gaetz has gone even further, promising Democrats subpoena power on the House Oversight Committee in the impeachment

Offering the Dems supena power is outrageuous, he needs to go, he is on a personal vendetta, and throwing in with the Dems is betrayal to all who voted for him.

Not sure what's true here, but getting rid of McCarthy should be personal for a lot of US. He's not helping, and the speakership is for his personal gain and power. He needs to go!

#3 suggests a question and it had me consider Gaetz. Is he a politician who can help turn the country around or just another egotistical grandstander? He is young and brash and immature but with time is he principled enough to lead a movement? I suspect he is more egotistical than devoted to a cause and his lack of charm and humor make those he’s insulted and alienated turn against him permanently. . At best he’s an effective attack dog or bad cop snd at worst he’s an insincere opportunist. Only time will tell.

If he is doing that, he's shooting himself, and his cause, in the foot. Do it in the party or sit down and shut up. He should make a call within the GOP to act, then publicize every name that resists. Let the public put the pressure on.

If Gaetz tries a coup, for McCarthy's making a deal with a democrat, by cutting a deal with the house Democrats he's a faithless scumsucker who will not be treated well by the true conservatives. Politics is the art of making deals. Compromise is an absolute necessity for government today. The deal McCarthy cut over the continuing resolution divorced the Ukraine money from the budget and didn't include it. That is a win. We take each step as it comes and sometimes you get your way 100% and sometimes you just squeak by. Anybody that goes "All or Nothing", damn's himself as an fanatic. We don't need left or right wing fanatics.

Who was it who said of the Palestinians that they never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity? You could say the same of the Republican Party. Then there is the adage, attributed to Napoleon, that you should never interrupt an enemy when he is making a mistake. The Republicans violated that one today, too. By rights, the Democrats should be in disarray. The Biden administration has been a disaster, as pretty much everyone knows, regardless of what some loyalists may tell a pollster. And yet it is the Republicans who can’t get their act together. Once again, they have bailed out the Democrats with an idiotic vote to oust

Russian soldiers fighting in Ukraine who are caught drinking or being insubordinate are forced into “Storm-Z” punishment squads and sent to the most dangerous parts of the front lines to face likely death, according to a new report. At least five of these penal battalions, staffed by ex-convicts and noncompliant troops, were thrown into some of the heaviest fighting in a bid to repel Kyiv’s counteroffensive in eastern and southern Ukraine this summer, reported Reuters Tuesday, citing interviews with 13 people familiar with the matter. “Storm fighters, they’re just meat,” said one regular soldier from army unit no. 40318 who was deployed near Bakhmut in eastern Ukraine in May and June.

An at-times annoyed, downcast, and even humorous Kevin McCarthy took to the podium Tuesday evening to hold a nearly hour-long press conference discussing his ouster from the House Speakership position, an effort spearheaded by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL). McCarthy lit into his colleague from Florida, indicated that he would not run for the speakership again, said the eight Republicans who voted against were not real conservatives, and even hinted he might resign from office altogether. Watch: Despite the extreme setback, McCarthy remained optimistic: 'I will not run for speaker again,' McCarthy said in a nearly hour-long press conference that veered from combative to laugh filled. Police officials have confirmed the incident is no longer considered an active shooter situation but are still asking everyone to shelter in place. There was a “preliminary report of four individuals shot” somewhere on the university grounds, Baltimore City Fire Department Director of Communications Kevin Cartwright told CNN. Footage from CNN affiliate WJZ shows multiple emergency response vehicles surrounding a taped-off student dormitory building. The glass of one of the building’s upper-floor windows appears to be shattered.

Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) successfully led a coup against now-former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday. He managed to eke out a “win” by rallying the entire Democrat caucus and eight Republicans to oust him. It’s the first time that has happened in U.S. history. And it’s a total clown show. Not only does it distract from the already tense budget negotiations, but it makes a laughingstock of the GOP—and the U.S.—and gives Democrats even more leverage to push through their radical policies. Gaetz got a win, but at what cost? Sure, he’ll raise a lot of campaign money from this—he’s already sending out emails and asking for money on Fox News

If they don’t want you to know things, it’s likely those things don’t make them look good. That rule applies to basically every organization, from the federal government to universities to corporations. And to the Big Tech corporations testifying in the federal government’s antitrust suit against Google, the first big monopoly trial in a quarter-century. Google has spent the last couple of decades hoovering up everyone’s private information for its own use, but it wants to make sure the public knows as little as possible about what it’s doing to the public. Normally in litigation like this, all sorts of information about the defendant’s business practices would come out.

An exercise in bluff-calling, a real showdown … or a case of extended adolescence? Perhaps today’s vote in the House will combine elements of all three — if it happens at all. Kevin McCarthy told House Republicans this morning that he plans a vote in the first series this afternoon on Matt Gaetz’ motion to vacate, potentially reopening the leadership election nine months after Gaetz and his allies lost it: This seems like a totally great fight to have right in the middle of a presidential primary, and just at the same moment that Joe Biden and Democrats are plumbing the depths of approval ratings.
