An at-times annoyed, downcast, and even humorous Kevin McCarthy took to the podium Tuesday evening to hold a nearly hour-long press conference discussing his ouster from the House Speakership position, an effort spearheaded by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL). McCarthy lit into his colleague from Florida, indicated that he would not run for the speakership again, said the eight Republicans who voted against were not real conservatives, and even hinted he might resign from office altogether. Watch: Despite the extreme setback, McCarthy remained optimistic: 'I will not run for speaker again,' McCarthy said in a nearly hour-long press conference that veered from combative to laugh filled. Hall of Famer and legendary Chicago Bears linebacker Dick Butkus has died at the age of 80. The Bears confirmed the death of Butkus via his family.
"The Butkus family confirms that football and entertainment legend Dick Butkus died peacefully in his sleep overnight at home in Malibu, California," a statement posted on X, formerly Twitter, said.

An 18-year-old Brooklyn man who authorities had previously described as “mentally disturbed” was arrested Thursday morning in connection with the stabbing death of a left-wing activist on a New York City sidewalk earlier this week.
Media reports have identified the suspect as Brian Dowling, who lives near the scene of the stabbing. He is facing murder and weapons charges in connection with the killing of activist Ryan Carson early Monday, according to reports.
“Assailant has been caught,” Carson’s father, Ken, wrote on Facebook Thursday morning.
