An at-times annoyed, downcast, and even humorous Kevin McCarthy took to the podium Tuesday evening to hold a nearly hour-long press conference discussing his ouster from the House Speakership position, an effort spearheaded by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL).
McCarthy lit into his colleague from Florida, indicated that he would not run for the speakership again, said the eight Republicans who voted against were not real conservatives, and even hinted he might resign from office altogether.
Watch: Despite the extreme setback, McCarthy remained optimistic:
'I will not run for speaker again,' McCarthy said in a nearly hour-long press conference that veered from combative to laugh filled.
'I may have lost the vote today.
Good riddance.

He should have tried to work with his party instead of spending his time on Maria’s show! His personality is less than positive!

This time, the Republican caucus deserves to insist that Gaetz, et al, support the caucus nominee for Speaker. I tend to think Steve Scalise should be the choice, but he may have some health issues.

A couple of days ago, McCarthy defiantly said, "Bring it on!" And so it was. And now he whines like a whimpy loser who's going to take his ball and go home.

He put on quite a performance. He brought every bit of this on himself. He should not have lied to his own caucus while double dealing with Democrats. He made comittments when he took that gavel that he never intended to keep.

Nothing personal, it's just business. I did hope McCarthy would prove his critics wrong, but in the back of my mind, figured he was a swamp dweller too.

You screwed up Kevin. You thought that, as a politician, you could say one thing and do another. Not this time. Good riddance.

Oh this is just a celebratory moment in history! 8 republicans and 208 democrats get to decide who the next republican speaker will be. Yippie kiya!
So 8 republicans burn it all down because they didn’t get what they wanted 100% of the time.

Might I remind everyone that Kevin McCarthy had a tough time becoming speaker. I actually think he became arrogant when, in fact, he somehow forgot that he is working for the American people.

He double crossed his own caucus one time too many, and then smugly thought he had the votes to keep his job. Smug and wrong!
Let's give it a week before all this hand wringing. The GOP House majority could end up deciding on a better candidate. This is the "hour of need" and sometimes a worthy person does step up during the hour of need.

#11... McCarthy made a promise to fund the government in 12 separate (hopefully reasoned) spending bills and never have a CR which only serves to extend the corruption forever.
McCarthy is a serial liar along he same path as Pelosi

It hasn't sunk it yet, Kevin. At some point, you'll realize what a mess you have. No worries, the RINOs and your leftist buddies will take care of you. You can become a Liz Chaney. In drag!

Paul Ryan 2.0 - nice pension (totally founded by US taxpayers) and a couple of six figures salary corporate board memberships. Yeah, life is hard.

McCarthy was far from perfect but for those gloating about his ouster I would remind you to be careful what you wish for - what comes next may be far worse.

McCarthy was simply doing what the majority of Republicans wanted him to do. That is why I am no longer a Republican. I am a Conservative and thrilled he is gone. Since it is up to the Republicans to decide on the next Speaker, I am confident I will remain a Conservative.

What's that old saying?? "Ya gotta dance with the one who brung ya."
What's with Speakers from California? Seems there's a significant level of hubris with them.

He was smug because Piglosi promised him the votes to remain speaker. For the betrayal she lost her cushy little office.
