Pence warns Republicans against ‘siren
song of populism’

Original Article

Former Vice President Mike Pence on Wednesday called on his party to turn away from what he described as a growing threat of populism led by his former White House boss Donald Trump and “his imitators.” In a speech delivered at the New Hampshire Institute of Politics at Saint Anselm College, Pence said that “Republican voters face a choice” between conservative principles and the rising populist movement within the party. In his sharpest language to date against the Trump wing of the GOP, Pence said that the populists were substituting limited government and traditional values for “an agenda stitched together by little else than personal grievances and performative outrage.”

Yup, donkey Pence wants us to go back to the good ole days of electing those who tell us what we want to hear only to then do the opposite once elected and tell us what we should think. People like him who think they know better and are our superiors who shouldn't be questioned. Those like him who are responsible for the situation the country is in because they did not fight and let the democrats destroy our schools, our politics, our legal system and our voting system. Right, that is who we should listen to rather than the man that fought and did what he said he would do.

The search engine of first-resort defines populism as "a political approach that strives to appeal to ordinary people who feel that their concerns are disregarded by established elite groups." Bingo! And it's beginning to look more and more like the GOPe, the party whose continued existence I imagine Pence is most concerned about, is one of those "established elite groups" that have shown no genuine regard for the wishes of ordinary people, nor for the mounting problems that threaten to overwhelm their families and their futures. Such a party won't be missed, at least not by the so-called "ordinary" people who built and maintain this country whose bounty the scavengers of derivative professions like politics feast upon.

A Shocking New Threat to Biden Emerges 8 replies

A new Republican threat to President Joe Biden's re-election campaign has emerged in the form of a former South Carolina governor who would be the first female president if she were to win the 2024 race. Nikki Haley, a contender for the GOP presidential nomination, poses the greatest risk to Biden, according to a new poll released by CNN on Thursday. Haley, who has recently seen a boost in the polls since faring well in the first primary debate, led Biden by 6 percentage points in a hypothetical matchup, backed by 49 percent support to Biden's 43 percent. It was the widest lead in any of any head-to-head pairs

The Biden administration is considering forcing migrants who cross into the United States illegally to remain in Texas while they wait out their asylum screening. Administration officials cite the proposed plan as a way to curb the flow of illegal immigrants at the southern border, The Los Angeles Times reported, citing three U.S. officials not authorized to discuss the matter. The plan would force migrants to remain in Texas, or possibly other border states by tracking their location through GPS monitoring devices, such as ankle bracelets, the officials told the Times. The migrants would undergo an asylum screening to determine whether they can remain in the U.S.

President Joe Biden faces continued headwinds from broadly negative job ratings overall, widespread concerns about his age and decreased confidence among Democratic-aligned voters, according to a new CNN Poll conducted by SSRS. There is no clear leader in a potential rematch between Biden and former President Donald Trump, who is widely ahead in the GOP primary. And nearly half of registered voters (46%) say that any Republican presidential nominee would be a better choice than Biden in 2024. Meanwhile, hypothetical matchups also suggest there would be no clear leader should Biden face one of the other major GOP contenders, with one notable exception:

× Georgia's Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger wrote an opinion piece decrying those who wish to bar former President Trump from running in the 2024 election, suggesting that voters, not lawyers, should decide. Some of Trump’s critics have argued that a rule enshrined in the United States Constitution could bar Trump from being on the ballot in the 2024 election. The legal theory proposes that Trump would be subject to Section 3 of the 14th Amendment — the Disqualification Clause — which bars individuals who "have engaged in insurrection or rebellion" against America, or aided those engaged in such, from holding office, citing Jan. 6.
