President Trump, in his White House coronavirus task force briefing Thursday, appeared to suggest that light and disinfectants might have the potential to treat the coronavirus — prompting a number of stories condemning the comments, others seeking to defend the president and a scathing tweet from presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden.
The comments even prompted a statement from Reckitt Benckiser Group, the makers of Lysol, warning against improper use of disinfectant products.
"As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route)," the company said

What President Trump was doing in a jocular manner was ribbing the Government scientists sitting off to his right side when he brought up disinfectants. The President, who is not a medical doctor should stop making any comments when it comes to possible future therapies and the other the medical or scientific aspects of the Administration’s response to the corona virus pandemic at those briefings and allow the medical and scientific people there with him to make those comments. The Democrats and their media allies are always out there watching, certainly with no sense of humor whatsoever, ready to pounce and mischaracterize the President’s comments and intent at a moment’s notice. No doubt we will be seeing the video of the President making that comment from now on until the election in Democrat campaign productions.

I understood him fine, but he really ought not to say anything. The press are all waiting to pounce.

Trump appears to be a person who feels he needs to contribute to a conversation even when he is not very knowledgeable about the subject. You can do that if you are young and no one is keeping score, but public officials have to be careful. Far more judges draw unfavorable press attention and/or are reprimanded for making a stupid, off the cuff remark on the record than for any other reason. If he feels obligated to speak, all he has to say is "Interesting. I'll let the experts respond to that one."

Hedging your comments because some in the audience are too stupid, obtuse, or deliberately planning to twist anything you say is how we got to this point, with the gutless pubbies. What he said was fine. Cowering because the leftards have another fake tizzy or faint, is self-defeating and doesn't advance the ball down the field. Anyone watching, who isn't brain-dead (aka dimocrat voters) can see the juvenile noise put out by the lefties. It's fine. Keep their heads exploding, President Trump!

So I guess he needs to silence himself like George W Bush? How well did that work out?

Trump was inarticulate, as he often is. Still, it's not a thought crime to wonder what might kill the virus. French scientists are trying nicotine patches, because few covid-19 patients are smokers.
In The Andromeda Strain, a satellite crashes into a town and everybody there dies -- from an alien virus -- except for an old drunk and a baby. Why did they live? The drunk's blood was acidic from drinking Sterno, and the baby's was alkaline. Don't drink Sterno. But are there some unemployed white mice who wouldn't mind doing a study about blood pH and Covid-19?

Out here in semi-rural deplorable land ( South Louisiana), almost everyone I know is out in the sunshine and spring warmth. There are lawns to be mowed, gardens that need tending, spring house repairs to be made and convertibles to drive. PDT is right about one thing, fresh air and sunshine are good for you. We still shop, we meet and socialize on the QT and no one I know has contacted the virus. If our petty tyrant of a Parish sheriff would rescind his ridiculous curfew, it would be even more enjoyable.

At this point, I’m in favor of as many people as possible injecting Lysol (or any disinfectant) into the body. Maybe start a social media campaign that gets Democrats to start chewing on Lysol wipes like bubble gum and having their cause of death listed as, “Too stupid to live.” Might be exactly what this nation needs.

The president should apply "disinfectant and sunlight" to the resistance within his administration.

Fox puts in the work to help explain what Trump is saying to the enemedia, who go even further out of their way to mischaracterize it.
Barring from the WH briefings any reporter who has misquoted the WH statements (or distorted them) might help. Then again, those reporters who are still obstinately trying to torpedo him will probably still find a way.

America is not a safe space for folks who believe you should only say a thing if there's no possibility of it being misunderstood.

I saw video of the first part of what he said and thought he was semi-joking. After reading this article I'm left wondering why he talks so much about nothing and how anyone here can defend him. Everything that pops into his head does not need to come out of his mouth. Save the brainstorming for private meetings, not press conferences.

Almost anyone in the Boomer generation grew up with hanging wash outside, placing items in the sunlight to disinfect them and were told to go out and get fresh air. My inlaws slept with a window open even if snow came inside.
First thing I did was place boxes and mail outside on a metal table for an afternoon.

There is at least two companies pandering on the social sites saying give children the disinfectant to cure various aliments including coronavirus. It's a scam. Trump did not say inject or ingest disinfectant.

I red at least 6 or 8 headlines this morning and all of them said the same thing; that DJT said to inject Lysol. I heard what he said and it wasn't even close. The fake news has overrun the country.
