No, I did not watch the Oscars.
I did not see Will Smith slap host Chris Rock. I did not see any of the best and worst dresses on the red carpet. I get plenty of notifications from multiple sources clueing me in to comments on current events and I find that I just don't care about anything involving Hollywood celebrities. Which is quite a change from the years I spent as a young girl devouring every bit I could on the denizens of LaLa Land.
My room was littered with movie magazines blazoned with photos of the gorgeous and handsome stars

The Oscars commission wanted a "blacker" awards ceremony and they got it. It was only missing a drive-by shooting and a mugging or two.

Can't remember he last Oscars I watched, maybe in the 90's. Not even the best film, maybe LaLaLand.

I’m just fine without movies and TV. Hadn’t gone to a theater in years. I didn’t know there was an Oscar until I saw a clip of that Will Smith thing.

You are not alone. We stand beside you. Why do you think the movies are going downhill fast. The "stars" wear little of nothing to show off their boobs. They look like they are trying out for Playboy. Instead of looking beautiful, they look like freaks. They have lots of money and no class. They criticize the rest of us while they buy two or three mega mansions and private jets. They they get hooked on drugs, die and are mourned "great" actors. I don't go to their woke movies or watch their stupid Oscars.

Stars? What stars? Same pickle as politicians they are certainly not my betters not today not on any given day. Old 40s or 50s movies are all I watch along with old westerns.

The industry as a whole is now incapable of original thought (except for Clint Eastwood). They can only make something 2 then something 3. When they run out of those they do remakes of good movies originally made decades ago. Very little or nothing to see here. Then let’s get to the Academy Awards. The awards are not given for quality or originality or for their entertainment value. They seem to love the Artsy Fartsy stuff that no one ever goes to see (mostly because they have no entertainment value at all).
I have not set foot into a movie theater in close to 10 years now. Mostly because the movies are bad and it costs a small fortune to go there to sit behind someone playing video games on their phone. I do still watch movies at home and go for the classic entertainment. As far as I and many others are concerned Hollywood can go stuff their garbage somewhere the sun does not shine. I am done with them. By the way, I don’t care if the woke Disney morons go broke. It is not the same company that Wally Disney worked so hard to build.

I do not watch ANY awards shows of any type and have not been to a theatre for 15 years, nor will I even go again. BUT, I do watch tv series and a few movies at home, almost all being foreign productions ( I like sub titles ), which for the most part are far superior to American made. They actually keep their clothes on and have decent to excellent plots. Why would I care what someone else thinks is the best of everything; what counts to me is what I think.

I haven't set foot in a theater in four years. I love, love, love movies and have a huge collection of DVDs. I do plan on going to see Father Stu with Mark Wahlberg and Mel Gibson next week. It looks like it will be very good.

Okay, but enough with how Saving Private Ryan should have won. The plot of the movie is not realistic. The German nd French speaking Corporal doesn't know what SNAFU means? Looking through dog tags of dead soldiers while the living ones walk by and no one thinks about it until too late? Yes, it shows the courage of the American soldier in World War II and have very realistic effects but it's total fiction.

Hollywood entertainers have made themselves totally irrelevant with their simpering self-entitled attitudes and their self-righteous speeches on subjects of which they know little. Acting in or producing a movie does not make you any kind of an expert on foreign affairs, the economy, or immigration law. In the meantime the vast majority of what they produce is unwatchable garbage cranked out by woke liberal morons who have no morals and no respect for themselves or anyone else. The glory days of Hollywood are history.

Can't wait until Deep Fake CGI becomes so good that we can have new movies with Cary Grant, et al.
Forget these other people.

I can't tell...if the slap was a staged performance to gain more viewers...or perhaps have the social medias talking about it...perhaps Will Smith needs to review his movies and perhaps he will understand why he's become a pathetic kneeling kaepernick that killed football for some of US...I'll put his movies from my private collection alongside...tom hanks and barbie Streisand..and Susan Sarandon...in my discarded collection....

It's over for these people, they just don't realize it yet. The only question is, which will die first, Disney or Hollywood?

The last time I watched the Oscars was when The Silence of the Lambs sweep it.
Always remember how excited Jodie Foster got seeing it happen.

If they wanted a blacker Oscar night, they should not have censored the American version Sunday night. After all, Australia and Japan got to see the smack live. Nothing says I hate America like sending the worst possible impression to other countries.
I am with Alicia in one respect, I used to watch the Oscars back in the day when they had great movies directed at American audiences. Now their movies are for the Asian market not their American one. So they should not whine about Americans not watching their product any longer.
Now the only thing that interests me is watching the red carpet sometimes. Even that interest has waned a lot lately.

I can pretty much predict big winners based on the current political controversies. When Sam Shepard criticized the new "western" movie, it was easy to guess that it would win. Then considering the Hollywood theme of having no women directors, it was easy to narrow down the award to the gay movie with the woman director with no appreciation of the American mystique of the western man. CHECK. Oscar for best director.
Hollywood theme of "Oscars so white." Easy to pick Will Smith for Best Actor
CHECK.

Thank you, again, Mrs. Colon.
Well said, as always. Alicia Colon is a person whose writings I always take the time to read, and who I think I'd like to have lunch with some time, although, I'm pretty sure that's not ever going to happen.

Ah! Alicia! Your comments regarding the Oscars when you were a young girl. Me too. I waited with great anticipation of the Oscars when I was a little girl. Loved the movies way back then. I could care less, for many years, about the Oscars in this age. Iquit the oscars. None of the movies of today mean a thing to me. Why waste a penny going to see a cra--y movie, usually over rated and expensive. then there's the woke crowd. Or the color-less crown. Ptooey.

I haven't wasted my time on this oscar circus in over 30 years. Alicia, once again, you are preaching to the choir. You go girl! Nice piece, as usual.
