A preseason game between the Dolphins and Jaguars in Jacksonville was called off Saturday evening after rookie Miami wide receiver Daewood Davis was injured and carted off the field. With 8:35 to play, Dolphins quarterback James Blackman attempted to find Davis over the middle but missed. Jacksonville linebacker Dequan Jackson leveled the 24-year-old rookie, drawing a flag for unnecessary roughness as Davis lied motionless on the turf. As both teams gathered around him, Davis was eventually removed from the field and the game canceled. In a tweet, Miami announced that Davis "suffered an injury in tonight’s game and has been

Comments:

I waa afraid this would start happening after the Damar Hamlin injury halted a game last year. This player is already back on his feet and the injury treated. So far now 2 pre-season games were suspended. In both cases the injured player was treated and released from the hospital rather quickly. There was no reason to cancel the games.

This stoppage of games any time someone experiences a significant injury needs to stop. Finish the game. Otherwise, strategically 'placed' injuries become a part of the game itself. Either through faking injury when ahead... or attempting to injure an opposing player while ahead. Of, if such games are ruled to be no-contests... then a team well behind would be incentivized to either injure or fake injury. The p*ssification of everything continues.

Back in the real NFL, officials would have told an injured receiver to get the hell off the field quickly or draw a delay-of-game penalty.

What? Get him immediate aid. Get him off the field and into an ambulance and quickly to a hospital. Continue the game. Since when is a game canceled because of an injury to a team member. Tennis, yes, football, no. It's called substitution. So they are going to play tackle football and expect no one to get a boo boo?

Maybe they stopped the game to protect Dequan Jackson from possible assault charges (or muddy up the evidence as much as possible).

Baseball teams have a trainer on hand in case of injuries. Football teams have a doctor on hand. That's how dangerous football is. Okay, since they accept that, they shouldn't cancel a game because someone goes to the hospital. (If he dies, that's different.)

There used to be something called The College All Star Game which featured the NFL champs versus a team of college all stars. Last game was 1976. Huge storm came up and the teams never came out for the second half. And that was the end of that game forever. A Saturday game between U Mass and New Mexico State was almost canceled when someone started flying a drone over the field. Guess the future will feature a football game with dueling drones above the field.

Ukrainian authorities ordered a mandatory evacuation of several villages and three dozen other populated areas as Russian troops advanced on the Kharkiv province. The evacuation directive applies to 37 settlements that Russian forces captured early in the 18-month-old war but were liberated by a Ukrainian counteroffensive in September. Citing a Russian attempt to push back into the area, the military administration in the Kupiansk district told roughly 12,000 residents to seek safety elsewhere. The order was initially issued on Aug. 10 but residents have been reluctant to relocate despite Russia's renewed push to retake the region. The resurgence comes as

BISMARCK, N.D. — The beloved wild horses that roam freely in North Dakota’s Theodore Roosevelt National Park could be removed under a National Park Service proposal that worries advocates who say the horses are a cultural link to the past. Visitors who drive the scenic park road can often see bands of horses, a symbol of the West and sight that delights tourists. Advocates want to see the horses continue to roam the Badlands, and disagree with park officials who have branded the horses as “livestock.” The Park Service is revising its livestock plans and writing an environmental assessment to

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson is making changes to a campaign promise that sought to fight homelessness by raising taxes after drawing concerns about the burdens a tax hike could bring on property owners. Johnson's proposed tax system would shift away from the city's flat tax rate on all property sales in Chicago. His proposal, which initially had two tiers, is now looking to break home sales into three categories, causing dissatisfaction among owners of high-end properties. The original proposal, which Johnson pitched on the campaign trail, called for two tiers: 0.75% tax on home sales below $1 million and 2.65%

Rome—Pope Francis has blasted the “backwardness” of some conservatives in the U.S. Catholic Church, saying they have replaced faith with ideology and that a correct understanding of Catholic doctrine allows for change over time. Francis’ comments were an acknowledgment of the divisions in the U.S. Catholic Church, which has been split between progressives and conservatives who long found support in the doctrinaire papacies of St. John Paul II and Benedict XVI, particularly on issues of abortion and same-sex marriage. Many conservatives have blasted Francis’ emphasis instead on social justice issues such as the environment and the poor, while also branding as heretical his opening to letting divorced and civilly remarried
