While visiting the US-Mexico border, Republican presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis released his border security plan which calls for an end of birthright citizenship and for him to be able to send the US military into Mexico if necessary. “Joe Biden has failed to meet the most basic responsibility of ensuring the territorial integrity of our country,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said as his plan was unveiled in Texas. “Biden’s gross dereliction of duty has left the southern border in shambles.”
The plan, which mirrors many immigration talking points laid out by other Republicans, including GOP rival Donald Trump, also promised to finish the border wall

Can he legally do that? I hope he can but I thought birthright citizenship was a national policy, not state.

Ending birthright citizenship was something Trump talked about but did nothing to end it. Some constitutional experts believe that it can be ended legislatively. Others believe it would require a constitutional amendment. The only way to find out is just do it, even by executive order then let the chips fall where they may.

Well, good luck to him if he really means it, and it isn't just a mere campaign promise that is intended to be forgotten as soon as the election is over.

Both Trump and DeSantis have promised to end birthright citizenship. I’d like to see what their procedure would be to accomplish this, and if it’s really a possibility, I’d like to see it included in the Republican platform.

The size and scope of the Border Patrol needs to be tripled. It is interesting that this never gets suggested by anybody. The definition of a real Ho rat-to-good BORDER WALL needs to be laid out, diagrams and all for the American people.

How much longer can American citizens live and I do mean LIVE on the promises of politicians?
For decades we have been living on their promises and yet our lives get harder and their lives get better.
How about WE keep the promises to make America 1st and MAGA.
Those are promises we can make and keep to each other.

I may be mistaken but as I understand it the matter of birthright citizenship is in the province of the courts. But DeSantis is singing the right tune.

Obvious move at the moment - where is his money coming from is the question. No politician ever crosses their money source.

Finish the wall and finish off the Cartels through military action but first publicly denounce the Bushes.

The biggest question I have is what will Ron DeSaintis do with the millions illegally let in by the Biden administration? President Trump made it clear, if they came here illegally, they must be deported. It takes courage to make a statement like that. Some weaker men would be afraid that would cause them to lose votes. Trump is determined to do what is best for the country. Once again, that is the difference between a politician and a leader who has the best interests of the country in mind first.

#14...Byron Donalds, the Florida Rep said the other day the only solution is to deport the illegals....I say maybe not the hard working ones with families, but let's start with the MS13 etc bad guys....

Ending birthright citizenship was something PRESIDENT Trump wanted to do but did not get done because he had a dem controlled congress, RINO's and those that turned against him. I believe that law was installed to protect those that were enslaved and indentured servants, and had children. But NOT for illegals.

#4: Has DeSantis ever failed to keep promises he had made? I will vote for either DeSantis or Trump by marching to the local polls, show my ID and vote.
We can move 87,000 IRS agents over to the border patrol with no effect to the IRS.

I have news for all the Republicans running for office and everyone else for that matter. Here is a news flash it doesn't matter any more what is done at the boarder because after title 42 took effect no one else is coming across they are all here. If you notice there is no reporting at the boarder because nothing is happing. God says in the Bible that when a nation turns it's face from Him, He will allow foreign nations to take it over. It's done.

Isn't what Gov. Ron's doing called plagiarism? Stealing ideas from President Trump is a no, no Ron.
Birthright citizenship: If we remember it was President LBJ that started that. It'll be a battle to stop it, but it's doable.

Well... sanctimonious sounds like he's following President Trump's lead....his wish list is exactly what President Trump has promised to do...and in most cases did when he was in the White House last time....this tells me that sanctimonious is weakening and has to follow President Trump's lead...hoping to draw away some of the President Trump supporters...well...that's not happening...WE the people stand with President Trump!!

Things that can't go on like they are going now.
1) Absorbing oversized impoverished and needy immigrant populations.
2) Growing the federal debt
3) Reducing every standard of quality to promote DEI.

I am not sure that birthright citizenship should be completely ended, as too many legal immigrants come here and wind up giving birth. As long as it is tweaked severely so that the illegals and the Chinese can be stopped, I am in agreement there. And HECK NO to our troops going to Mexico. Put them along our border if we must, but no sending them to Mexico.
