Democrat-run New York City is ready to hit residents and visitors alike with a “congestion charge” after federal approval was granted Monday for its first-in-the-nation plan to impose big tolls to drive into the most visited parts of Manhattan.
The program could begin as soon as the spring of 2024, bringing New York City into line with places like London, Singapore, and Stockholm that have implemented similar tax impositions on drivers simply going about their everyday business. The news was announced within hours of NYC officials ordering pizzerias that use coal or wood-burning ovens to slice their carbon emissions by 75 percent or else face hefty fines,

With the commercial real estate market about to crash, they may not get as much money with this tax that they want. or say they need.

It won't matter to me if they charge $1,000, it would take more than that just to make me go there.

Brilliant move by the Democrat Death Communists - Take away a freedom - Driving your car wherever you want to and at the same time force the dumb ass useful idiots who vote for these totalitarian monsters into using a decrepit, crime ridden mass transit system where you are basically playing Russian Roulette every time you board a subway car or are simply waiting for a subway train to arrive. Brilliant!

They would have to pay me another more than that to get me to go there.
Whenever I drive north, I drive 150 miles out of my way to avoid thr I95 congestion, tolls, and especially the draconian gun laws of NYC. I urge everyone else to do the same; these politicians should not have the economic support of even a passer-by.

They should have imposed an exit toll. They would really be raking it in that way.

A good reason not to go there. Can you imagine the backup of traffic trying to collect that tol.

In addition to the $17 (cars & motorcycles) toll to enter Manhattan from NJ, for the occasional driver and tourist. Trucks with 6 axles $138 + $23 each additional axle.

Optimistic revenue estimates will be considerably off.

They couldn’t pay me enough to live in NY today.(Although I enjoyed going there on dates in the early’70s when I lived in NJ) Anyone want to start a pool based on the date the greatest number of businesses (or residents) finally leave this mismanaged city for greener pastures?

You wanted Progressive representation, we'll give you Progressive policies, which require LARGE amounts of your income in the form of taxes and fees, so you can support the Progressive government we build. This is a never-ending process.
And, the government will be funded first, regardless of what your circumstances are, or how hard you have to work to make ends meet.
Remember, none of us lost a job or missed a paycheck during the Pandemic. We didn't even lose any ground with our pensions that you also fund.
So, keep voting and paying!

Never been there. Never will. But out of curiosity, what if you live outside the city and work inside the city? Do you have to pay $23 every day to go to work? How is that going to work out?

Every single thing available in NYC can be had better and cheaper elsewhere, plus less chance of being mugged or randomly killed. No way in the world I would go to that horrible place again.

FTA:Taxi and car service drivers who have to access Manhattan as part of their daily work have also objected, saying it would make fares unaffordable.
That ride to the airport in Queens will get quite a bit higher. Dragging your luggage onto a public bus or subway is an untenable option.

There goes a lot of what’s left of their tourism not to mention emptying out the office buildings that still have on site workers. As one poster noted, commercial real estate is already in deep trouble. My suggestion would be to divest yourself of any stocks that are into financing big city office buildings or big city anything.

New York City people like to think of themselves as the smartest people in the room at any given moment....this is not one of those moments, snd this generation of New Yorkers prove that'diversity and progressivism are disasters on every level.
