WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to impose new limits on state courts reviewing certain election-related issues by ruling against Republicans in North Carolina fighting for a congressional district map that would heavily favor their candidates.
The justices ruled in a 6-3 vote that the North Carolina Supreme Court was acting within its authority in concluding that the map constituted a partisan gerrymander under the state Constitution. In doing so, the court declined to embrace a broad version of a hitherto obscure legal argument called the “independent state legislature” theory, which Republicans say limits the authority of state courts to strike down certain election laws enacted by state

Washington — Systemic negligence, misconduct, and overall under-resourcing among federal prison staff and facilities contributed to the conditions that enabled financier Jeffrey Epstein to die by suicide in his prison cell, the Justice Department's inspector general concluded in a report released Tuesday.
The 66-year-old financier was found dead in his New York prison cell in 2019 a little over a month after federal authorities took him into custody for the alleged sex trafficking of minors. He was accused of exploiting and abusing dozens of underage girls and utilizing a network of employees to ensure continued access to victims, according to

CNN obtained the audio recording of a 2021 meeting in which former President Donald Trump discussed having secret documents he did not declassify.
The network ran the audio on Anderson Cooper 360. In it, Trump seemed to be showing the confidential documents to others in the room, as they had a discussion about Gen. Mark Milley, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Portions of the audio are cited in the federal indictment of Trump over his withholding of classified documents after he left the White House. In the conversation, reportedly with the writers of Mark Meadows autobiography, Trump referred to the document and that it remained classified.

BlackRock CEO Larry Fink said Sunday he no longer uses the term “ESG” when talking of investing, lamenting it has become politicized.
Fink spoke at the Aspen Ideas Festival, announcing the term Environment, Social, and Governance (ESG) investing is now past, arguing it has been “politically weaponized” and he is “ashamed’ to be part of the debate. “When I write these [investment] letters, it was never meant to be a political statement. … They were written to identify long-term issues to our long-term investors,” he said. However, when pressed on his statement, he backtracked, saying, “I never said I was ashamed. I’m not ashamed. I do believe in conscientious capitalism.”

While visiting the US-Mexico border, Republican presidential hopeful Ron DeSantis released his border security plan which calls for an end of birthright citizenship and for him to be able to send the US military into Mexico if necessary. “Joe Biden has failed to meet the most basic responsibility of ensuring the territorial integrity of our country,” Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said as his plan was unveiled in Texas. “Biden’s gross dereliction of duty has left the southern border in shambles.”
The plan, which mirrors many immigration talking points laid out by other Republicans, including GOP rival Donald Trump, also promised to finish the border wall

Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke out Monday for the first time since hundreds of armed Wagner mercenaries briefly challenged Russia's military leadership, calling on rebellion organizers to be "brought to justice."
"This is criminal activity, which is aimed at weakening the country. This is a colossal threat," Putin said in a five-minute televised address to the nation. Putin, who appeared visibly angry, said while Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin called off the rebellion shortly after it started, the "armed rebellion would have been put down anyway."
"Civic solidarity has shown that any blackmail attempts to create internal unrest are doomed to failure," Putin said. "They wanted Russians to fight each other

Call it whatever floats your boat: circular firing squad, internecine warfare, intentional implosion, or Republican intraparty politics as usual, but the song remains the same: the Republican Party has a long history of doing more damage to itself than any damage caused by the Democrats and their lapdog media stooges.
In the latest example, the House Freedom Caucus is reportedly discussing kicking Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene to the curb over her “unprofessional” behavior.
According to a report from left-leaning Axios, members of the Freedom Caucus discussed MTG’s ouster during a closed-door meeting on Friday morning, three sources familiar with the conversation told the outlet.

The corruption of the U.S. government is exemplified by the Biden administration. The corruption of the Biden administration is exemplified by its Department of Justice. And the corruption of the Department of Justice is presided over by Attorney General Merrick Garland.
But that isn’t the worst of it. Corruption of the Department of Justice goes to the heart of American democracy. It makes a mockery of the rule of law. It thumbs its nose at the Constitution. Corruption of some agencies might only a costly annoyance. Corruption of the Department of Justice threatens our republic.

We’re now in a time where we see all kinds of hoaxes, false flags, and now, AI fake images — all trying to manipulate people.
We saw the Russia collusion hoax deceive millions of people, and some are still held in its thrall and don’t yet know the truth — or the involvement of the Clinton team in trying to push information to smear the Trump team.
Despite Republicans being the party of law and order and the decades of leftist riots — including the BLM/Antifa rampages of 2020 — the media and Democrats like to try to use Jan. 6 as a way to smear Republicans as violent

An airport worker died Friday after he was "ingested" into the engine of a Delta plane at San Antonio International Airport, the National Transportation Safety Board said.
Delta Flight 1111 had arrived at the airport and was taxiing to the gate on one engine around 10:25 p.m. when the deadly incident happened, officials said. The plane, an Airbus A319, had just arrived from Los Angeles International Airport.
The worker was employed by Unifi, a company that Delta contracts with to support ground-handling operations. The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday that the victim was an airport ramp worker.

ATHENS, Greece — Greece’s conservative New Democracy party won a landslide victory in the country’s second election in five weeks Sunday, with partial official results showing it gaining a comfortable parliamentary majority to form a government for a second four-year term. Official results from nearly 90% of voting centers nationwide showed Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ party with just over 40% of the vote, with his main rival, the left-wing Syriza party, suffering a crushing defeat with just under 18%, even worse than its 20% in the last elections in May. Sunday’s vote came just over a week after a migrant ship capsized and sank off the western coast of Greece, leaving hundredsCORRECTION*

Forget about tripping over a sandbag. Jeffrey Katzenberg wants President Joe Biden to act like Mick Jagger.
The Wall St. Journal reports movie mogul Katzenberg has joined with other advisers to tell Biden to “own” his age and turn it into an asset. If Jagger (who turns 80 soon) and Ford (now 80) can still do it, Joe can lean into his longevity, the WSJ said, quoting sources.
Katzenberg is reported by the WSJ to have become “an influential outside adviser” in the last few months. The former studio head brings years of business experience, Hollywood storytelling bona fides, and a Rolodex of contacts in California’s entertainment and tech industry,
