Entering court using a walker, a doctor's note clutched in his hand, 70-year-old Dana Williams, who suffers serious heart problems, hypertension and asthma, pleaded to delay eviction from his two-bedroom apartment in Atlanta. Although sympathetic, the judge said state law required him to evict Williams and his 25-year-old daughter De’mai Williams in April because they owed $8,348 in unpaid rent and fees on their $940-a-month apartment. They have been living in limbo ever since. They moved into a dilapidated Atlanta hotel room with water dripping through the bathroom ceiling, broken furniture and no refrigerator or microwave. But at $275-a-week, it

Comments:

Note that the 25-year old daughter apparently does not work outside the home. The unpaid rent is nearly a year's worth.

My adult sons shared a simple place in a small town 30 minutes west of Huntsville, AL and their rent has almost doubled since Covid started. They both ended up moving to other places. We are building apartments and houses at an alarming rate, here in the Tennessee Valley and still rents are sky high. I really don't understand the economics of it, especially after Covid. By the way, they never stopped paying rent during Covid, because their income never changed.

I keep seeing these financial experts on tv saying the economy is doing well because people still haven't spent the stimulus money from the government handed out due to Covid. I don't know about you, but that money was invested and spent years ago. They are also using that excuse to explain why people aren't going back to work. Apparently, I missed the boat on that windfall.

The father/daughter are behind on rent and homeless by their own doing. If he is on Social Security and she is paid to be his "caregiver" by the state, their income did not go away during Covid. During Covid, they surely received extra stimulus money, food benefits, as well as other government benefits due to their low income (Medicaid recipient) status. They could have paid their rent, they chose not to because the government told them they did not need to and nothing would happen to them. Where did the rent money go? They apparently managed to pay rent before Covid. Unless the father requires 24 hour care, the daughter needs to get off her lazy butt and get another job outside of the home to help pay the bills and for housing. Unless dad is disabled, he can get a job too. He is 70 and can earn as much money as he wants without losing his Social Security benefits. Help yourselves and stop sitting around in your dingy hotel room feeling sorry for yourselves (unless you are disabled and unable to work).

Hey, Associated Press: where does the government get all the money to take care of the illegals? It’s illogical to think we can support all the incoming poor people, and yet see legal citizens here suffering without any affordable housing.

Owners of apartment buildings did not get a moratorium on paying real estate taxes, utility bills, building repairs, and general upkeep during covid. Their renters however, did not have to pay and stay in the apartment.

Agree with #7. They have to be costing billions. Free food, put up in posh (for now) hotels, medical care and God knows what else. This all on the Democrats.....their sanctuary cities, open border policy and non-deportation results. I knew they would be a disaster when they seized (stole) power but I marvel how quickly they managed to destroy the country in less than three years.

Major League Baseball has quietly ordered its teams not to wear any Pride uniforms throughout their Pride events. Democratic governors don't tend to jump at the chance for a sit-down interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News. They also don’t tend to do tours of states they consider hostile to their own, like Florida. But then there's California's Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom . He prefers the national stage to dealing with the rampant dysfunction happening in his own state. And while Newsom claims he isn't running for president, the evidence suggests he actually is. True, Newsom may not be mounting a primary campaign against a sitting president of his own party who has announced he is running again. But

Was he confused about royal succession? Is he a Sex Pistols fan? Who knows. When asked about the incident, White House aides offered nonsensical and conflicting answers — because they have absolutely no idea, and neither does the president.
