Astronomers know full well that the sun is very slowly getting brighter, and in a billion or so years time it will make Earth too hot to live on. One scientist is now proposing a radical solution that will let humans live on this planet for longer – physically moving it away from the sun. Albert Zijlstra, a professor of astrophysics at the University of Manchester, suggests shifting Earth further back from the sun by about three million miles. At the moment, Earth is orbiting the sun at a distance of 93 million miles (150 million km) but this needs

What could possibly go wrong? They have no clue what the.mean temperature of the planet is or should be, what sets off an ice age, what brings on an ice age or how the climate can be changed, so lets grab the dials and start.turning them.

I remember an old kids cartoon from the 70s. Aliens were going to blow up the sun because it was too bright and hurt their eyes. Humans convinced the aliens not to do that by showing them sunglasses. Moving the earth sounds just as hokey.

There is NO PROBLEM with Earth's climate.
These are dangerous, unhinged lunatics trying to desperately "solve" a non-existent problem.
Keep these nutcases far from the levers of power.
DM is pretty unhinged on any given day, too.

Plant a bunch of trees. The trees make oxygen, provide homes for little creatures, create shade, and then firewood.

Sure...install a huge tailpipe in the South Pole and run all the hot air from the enviro-weenies and stupid liberal scientists into it...problem solved...might be able to turn the earth into a starship with all that exhaust...

Are you an individual that is totally bat-shiite crazy, but you don't want to be committed to a mental institution?
Well, compadre, you're in luck. Simply become a "perfesser" at some collectivist indoctrination facility. Once in that position, every lunatic notion that drools out of your "rooster"-holster will be taken as leftist gospel.
Geez.

I know these astronomers want to play god, but God has already
made plans to deal with life on a naturally warming Earth.
It's called evolution. Life would have a billions years to adapt.

Entropy is already taking care of this. Even now the Earth is always slowing down it's orbit and spin and is receding from the Sun. Wait long enough and the Earth will be Mars and Venus will be Earth.

Wouldn't it be much easier to shrink the size of the Earth?
If the Earth weren't so wide - - it's outer surface would be further away from the sun. So - - let's shrink the Earth's diameter from 8,000 miles to 4,000 miles - - giving us an extra 4,000 miles of breathing room.
If I can think of these solutions - - then why can't the so-called "scientists" think of them?

For all their claims about “science,” these morons don’t know anything about it. And, every time they try to “fix” something, they destroy it. Human beings and all life on planet Earth evolved according to the conditions of the planet, including its distance from the sun. Messing around with the actual orbit of the planet will (not can, will) have catastrophic consequences. This is what happens when political message is the most important part of education.

I read a hokey Sci-fi book many years ago where they launched spacecraft made out of massive metal disks, from earth, by exploding nukes under them.
They could try the same idea with the whole earth by putting all of the world's nukes in one spot facing the sun, and set them off all at once. That could propel us into a further orbit. And even if it doesn't, the nuclear winter will cool things off (well, except for the glowing part around where the nukes were).
How about it University of Manchester? Is my idea crazy enough to get me a nice professorship at your loony bin?

the spacecraft can't nudge the asteroid unless it has momentum, and if it does, then it gave an equal kick to the Earth in the opposite direction when it launched.

These idiots are going to get us ALL killed. Moving the Earth means moving the moon, as well. Moving the earth is more difficult than moving a water Ballon with a needle.
If they actually had the means, and we had to take them seriously, they'd have to die to preserve the Earth and it's ecosystems.

These people can’t tell me if it’s going to rain next week but they can tell me in a billion years the earth will be too hot. I think I’ll drop the problem in God’s lap. He can discuss the problem with Mother Nature. Let her think of a solution. I’m pretty sure it would be better then this guys. He is nutz!
