The New Ugly Americans

The old cultural imperialism was supposedly greedy corporatism like Disneyland, McDonald's, and Starbucks sprouting up worldwide to supplant local competitors. But these businesses spread because they appealed to free-will consumer demand abroad. They were not imposed top down. The U.S. presence in Afghanistan collapsed in August 2021 amid the greatest American military humiliation in modern history. A billion-dollar new embassy was abandoned. Hundreds of millions of dollars' worth of new infrastructure at the huge Bagram Airbase was dumped. We still do not know how many billions of dollars of sophisticated new weapons were left to the Taliban and now are making their way through global terrorists' marts.

Comments:

The US was for 80 years, civilization's traffic cop. Now we're persona-non-Grata around the world for a variety of reasons, as enumerated by Hanson.

A liberal friend frequently huffs and sniffs about "American hegemony" and the evils of "white Christian nationalism." Unfortunately, she'll never be confronted by VDH's impeccable thinking as long as she clings to her beloved New York Times.

VDH is a great mind and always a must-read. I would add that other nations probably don't just see America as a bully. They (rightly) see American policies as sick, crazy and *evil*.

FTA: “How odd that those on the Left who in the past decried "American imperialism" are now proving the greatest imperialists of all.“ Yes indeed. But we are seeing more and more that the pieties of the Dims are just a smoke screen for corruption. If they accuse a republican of doing wrong, they are actually doing that wrong and they are simply thrashing around for someone to accuse- i.e., for a smoke screen.

Today the definition of "American" has devolved to simply mean that portion of the world's population that was born in or became a citizen of a defined geographical area. That is it. With that said the divisions in this geographic area have become such that the idea of any generalization of what Americans is useless. Now if you wish to characterize Democrats, this administration, LGBQT, then "Ugly" is a good place to start.

FTA: “ How odd that those on the Left who in the past decried "American imperialism" are now proving the greatest imperialists of all.” It may be odd but it is strategic in its origin. Democrats with the help of the CIA and FBI have followed the strategy of a Color Revolution and by all measure, they have been successful. I believe it began with Obama and was meant to be continued by HRC, but Trump changed that which is why their emphasis was diverted to election fraud which was wildly successful due to the media bullies and feckless Republicans and still goes on. Now democrats are just trying to keep a lid on the patriots who are wise to their little traitorous game. Ultimately the revolution started with the culture and moved to politics. As Andrew Breitbart told us, politics is downstream from culture.

This is a profound article full of truth and wisdom. Many Americans are aware of the sad state of affairs we face in today’s world. Others who put ‘politics and the Democrat Party’ above all else have fallen for the lies and deception their Party has perpetuated. The Democrat Party of today feels empowered because so many believe in and celebrate their dangerous and overwhelmingly nonsensical policies.

Black drivers in Florida are nearly three times more likely to be ticketed by police and sheriff’s deputies under a law that allowed law enforcement to cite drivers for loud music starting last year, according to a new analysis of traffic data and court records. The analysis showed that Black drivers received almost 37% of the tickets, despite Black people making up only about 16% of Florida's driving-eligible population. Law enforcement cited Black drivers at a rate of just over 11 tickets per 100,000 Black drivers, and cited white drivers at a rate of 3.9 tickets per 100,000 white drivers.

A Biden administration rule is set to take effect that will force good-credit home buyers to pay more for their mortgages to subsidize loans to higher-risk borrowers. Experts believe that borrowers with a credit score of about 680 would pay around $40 more per month on a $400,000 mortgage under rules from the Federal Housing Finance Agency that go into effect May 1, costs that will help subsidize people with lower credit ratings also looking for a mortgage, according to a Washington Times report Tuesday. “The changes do not make sense. Penalizing borrowers with larger down payments and credit scores will not go over well,” Ian Wright, a senior loan officer
