Walmart's plan to abruptly close 4 Chicago
stores slammed as 'unethical' and 'unceremoniously

Walmart's decision to shutter four Chicago stores has drawn ire of elected officials representing the Windy City. In a rae press release on April 11 announcing store closures, Walmart said bluntly that these stores "have not been profitable since we opened the first one nearly 17 years ago." "These stores lose tens of millions of dollars a year, and their annual losses nearly doubled in just the last five years," the company said. "The remaining four Chicago stores continue to face the same business difficulties, but we think this decision gives us the best chance to help keep them open

Comments:

They've been losing money since Day One. The stores should have been shut down years ago,

Yes, it is unethical, members of minorities have a right to shoplift millions a dollar from stores as reparations for things that never happened to them.

I don't even feel sorry for Wal-Mart in this one. Any business that decides to be "woke" and build in high-crime areas (like most of Chicago) are in a lose-lose situation. If they stay, they will shoplifted and robbed blind and lose tons of money. If they get tired of it and leave, they are just being "racist" (which is a much simpler way of saying what they mean when they say "unethical"). Just ignore them and do what is best for your stockholders and customers that actually buy from you (not steal your blind)!!!!!

These same people have backed a reckless government that is responsible for why Walmart is leaving. Their abandonment of enforcing the law is the issue. Walmart didn't need to lose money while leaving their employees in danger.

So Chicago liberals come face to face with corporate pragmatism. The city of Chicago coddles criminals, creating a revolving door for the hordes of shoplifters but Walmart is supposed to look the other way and continue losing money? Maybe Chicago voters will take a hard look at how, and who, they vote for in the future. That said, I don't think anything will change. Liberals have a history of continuing their harmful policies choosing instead to pass the buck when it comes to accountability.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland is about to be one of the first cities in the U.S. with blocks dedicated as a zero-emission delivery zone, thanks to a $2 million grant the city received. The Portland Bureau of Transportation announced Tuesday that the money will support creating a 16-block area in downtown where all deliveries must be made using zero-emission vehicles. These vehicles can include electric vans and trucks, cargo bikes or hydrogen-fueled vehicles. The goal is to reduce traffic from heavy trucks in the downtown area.
