LA County’s proposal to 'decarcerate'

A controversial proposal by Los Angeles County Board members to "decarcerate" jails was withdrawn from Tuesday’s agenda after opposition from the public and law enforcement. The agenda item was titled "Los Angeles County to take Actionable Next Steps to Depopulate and Decarcerate the Los Angeles County Jails."Introduced by Supervisors Lindsey Horvath and Hilda Solis, the proposal outlined that it would "Declare the state of mental health services and overcrowding in the Los Angeles County jails a humanitarian crisis, requiring the County to move with all deliberate speed on meaningful solutions; and prioritize decreasing the number of individuals entering the Los Angeles County Jails."

Comments:

* Bill Melugin, and Alexandria Hernandez

To put it bluntly, these two Dem harpies lit a firestorm. All hell broke loose when their proposal was made public. The backlash from the Los Angeles County Police Chiefs Association was immediate and powerful. Oldtimer Solis and her apparent protegee, newbie supervisor Horvath were sent skulking off.

Frankly, we should hope that such proposals become law. The only way back is to discredit leftist policies by see the harm up close and personal. Voters who lose a friend or loved one might vote differently if they actually had to pay the price directly.

Decarcerate them on my block. I'll give you the name of an intersection where you can pick up the decarcerated bodies. Please dispose of them elsewhere.

The grand jury indictment against former president and 2024 contender Donald Trump hasn’t even been unsealed yet. But the corporate press has already moved on, redirecting the public’s focus to the other pending investigations — a subtle acknowledgment that the forthcoming charges by the Manhattan district attorney will be both weak and properly perceived as political persecution. But the Fulton County, Georgia investigation and Special Counsel Jack Smith’s probes of Trump are equally weak. (snip) it seems likely Fulton County D.A. For weeks now, former President Donald Trump and legal experts on the right predicted that the prosecution Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg brought against Trump was pathetic and partisan. Not long after Trump pleaded not guilty to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records during his arraignment on Tuesday, some of his most outspoken political enemies also began casting doubt on Bragg’s attempts to send the former president to jail. Here are the notorious anti-Trumpers who willingly admitted that Bragg’s case against the leader of the Republican Party is a weak attempt to keep him from winning the White House in 2024.

Former President Donald Trump shows the most significant lead yet over President Joe Biden in Rasmussen Reports’ most recent national 2024 presidential election poll, conducted right before the former president’s arraignment earlier this week. While it is still unknown if Biden will run for another term or when he will announce his decision, the president is trailing his predecessor in the poll by the largest amount to date. In the hypothetical showdown between the two, Trump leads 47 to 40 percent of likely voters, with 11 percent saying someone else and two percent not sure. The most recent poll is a reversal from February,

Former President Donald Trump has been indicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records. Trump was indicted by a New York grand jury following a probe by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. The 16-page indictment, released on April 4 after Trump was arraigned, says that Trump falsified records related to multiple payments made to keep concealed negative information about him. That includes the payment made to Stormy Daniels, an adult film actress who has claimed Trump had an affair with her, according to the charges.

My introduction to San Francisco came in the late 1970s, when I spent a lot of time there as a young lawyer. For a Midwestern guy, the San Francisco of that era was a revelation: great restaurants, famous hotels on Nob Hill, fog drifting in off the Bay. But today’s San Francisco is, sadly, something else. The San Francisco Chronicle has a long, long article about the city’s demise: “Downtown S.F. on the brink: It’s worse than it looks.” And it looks really bad. The numbers are grim: "Don’t be fooled. The downtown area, the city’s primary economic driver, is teetering on the edge, facing challenges greater than
