Gov. Ned Lamont is back from the men's college basketball Final Four and basking in UConn's resounding victory — but apparently wasn't the biggest fan of the city that hosted the event. Asked Wednesday on WPLR's Chaz & AJ in the Morning to describe the scene after UConn's win over San Diego State, Lamont began with a comment on the city of Houston.
"You walk around downtown Houston, which is butt ugly, not much there..." the governor began, before the highly amused hosts cut him off. "You know that's going to be tweeted," one of them said, laughing. "Get ready to hear from Houston. Houston, we have a problem."

Houston may be "butt ugly," but it's still much better than high-tax, high-crime CT.

Houston will never win any beauty contests. You've read about the ugliest dog contest? Well, the ugliest big city is...make your pick...Detroit or Chicago. Forget wretched politics for the moment: San Francisco, Seattle, and Los Angeles (despite seedy areas) are quite beautiful. The "Bosch" detective series shows how beautiful LA actually is, and I don't live there, just an occasional visitor. I never visit Detroit.

The ENTIRE State of Conn would fit within the Houston City Limits. I actually have a scaled overlay pic of it saved from a discussion several years ago.
ALL big cities are ugly, NY, LA, Philly, Chicago, Detroit are all much worse than Houston though. Even though all of them enjoy the net plus of a "Water Feature"

I am a lifetime Texan, and was born in Houston. It's not a "pretty" town, because it was built from its humble beginnings as a working man's town. It's always been a blue-collar town at its heart and soul.
Lot's of Houstonians putting on their hard hats and going to those refineries to make a lot of that gas and oil products that fuel the limousines those snotty elitists in CT drive around.

Gov. Lamont, have you ever been to Hartford or Bridgeport?

Houston has a great road system, more accessible than any major city I'm familiar with, traffic notwithstanding. Utility can be beautiful and it enhances quality of life. Kinda grasping at straws here, kinda not.

One wonders how 'Wow!' Connecticut is since the NCAA hasn't held a Final four then since...Never!

Hopefully, Governor LaMent from CT will never need top notch medical care because Houston has some of the finest surgeons in the country. Princes, and former heads of foreign countries have had surgery in Houston because of their surgeons. My bro-in-law, who is a Neuro Surgeon there, can list his famous clients.

Did this SFB even know that U of C didn't play Houston in the championship game?

Not hardly, Lamont. Have a look at your own state before making comments like this.

Houston is ran by the Democrats, and has not been cleaned in 30 years or more.

With no zoning, Houston is the embodiment of WYSIWYG. Growing up there I think it is similar in attitude to New Orleans. Kind of 'let it all hang out' and 'if you don't like it - you can lump it' - no one CARES what you think.... Not pretentious, not beautiful, and by G-d you know they are MAKING something there.... And the freeways (note only a few TOLL ways - thanks Rick Perry)...either go as fast as everyone else, or get out of the left damm lane....

I live in Houston. He's right. Downtown is butt ugly. So is anything built along the freeway feeder roads.
Go a mile from there and you have quiet oak tree covered streets and friendly people. PS I've been to Connecticut. Aside from the clam chowder I wasn't particularly impressed.

Umm, New Haven, Bridgeport, and Hartford are respective “shite-holes”, I grew up nearby in RI and hated everything to do with CT. Ned is classless. Houston has it’s issues, mostly from all the Dem’s that moved there after Katrina, but I would take it any day over CT.

Stay classy Guv! It must be terrible to live a life full of hatred. Unlike Hartford, there are actually a lot of Fortune 500 corporate headquarters in downtown Houston that moved from the Northeast. May not be 'pretty' but real stuff gets done and people have jobs.

#2, Chicago is flat out a gorgeous city. The architecture. skyline, Lake Michigan, 11 miles of shoreline parks, .....
Just because the politics are ugly, doesn't mean it gets lumped in with Gary Indiana.

Native Houstonians know to use the tunnel system when you go downtown. Vistors don't know about it and would get lost in its maze. Like above poster pointed out, Houston was built for working people who get things done. It has an energetic vibe.
P.S. Please stay in CT. It is really hot down here. Get ready, we will bussing more illegal aliens up there to enjoy your beautiful state. Y'all take good care of 'em. Just be warned: most of them are too short to play basketball for UConn.
