I was as surprised as the next person when I recognized that I might be drawn to becoming a Catholic nun.
I graduated from pharmacy school in 1981 and was out of the church during my college years. I had a house, I was going on vacation, I was living the good life, and I had some money, but still, something was missing. (snip) The Catholic Church was, and still sometimes is, slow to embrace the LGBTQ+ community.
I started my healthcare career as a pharmacist in the early '80s at the cusp of the AIDS epidemic. I was in Chicago working as an oncology pharmacist, treating many gay men

Gordon Lightfoot, the honey-voiced Canadian singer-songwriter who had giant U.S. hits with “If You Could Read My Mind,” “Sundown” and “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” died today at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto. He was 84.
His longtime publicist Victoria Lord revealed the news to Canadian media outlets including the CBC but did not provide a cause of death. Revered in Canada, Lightfoot had been scheduled to play Los Angeles-area clubs several times during the past two years but had postponed the dates at least twice. Born on November 17, 1938, in Orillia, Ontario, Lightfoot had been part of the Canadian folk scene for several years

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot is urging Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to not follow through with his "inhuman and dangerous" plan to send more migrants and asylum seekers from his southern state to her city. The outgoing Chicago mayor made her appeal to the Republican governor in a letter Sunday, stating that they are aware Texas is planning as soon as Monday to start sending migrants to Democrat-led cities including Chicago. A Chicago area high school has come under fire after it was discovered the school is offering segregated mathematics classes for “Black” and “Latinx” students only.
Evanston Township High School District 202 (ETHS) is providing the racially segregated courses in calculus, pre-calculus, and algebra.ETHS’s math curriculum for the next school year suggests that the segregated classes will continue. One of ETHS’s pre-calculus courses describes, “[t]he course is restricted to students who identify as Black male students.” While another pre-calculus course mentions that it is only for “Latinx” students, and a third course does not have any restrictions based on gender or race.

Bud Light sales continue to sink like a brick as the Dylan Mulvaney fallout nears it’s one-month anniversary.
Congrats to the happy couple!
The latest numbers are in, and the folks over at Anheuser-Busch may wanna look away. According to Beer Business Daily, Bud Light’s off-premise sales volume — the amount of beer sold outside of restaurants and bars — was down 26.1% from a year earlier in the week ending in April 22.
That’s even worse than the 21.1% decrease from the week prior, while Bud Light numbers are now down 8% this year.

Fox News’ decision to tap Brian Kilmeade as the host of “Fox News Tonight” at 8 p.m. ET, following the departure of Tucker Carlson, has not been without its challenges. Since his debut last Monday, ratings for Kilmeade’s fill-in show have reportedly dropped significantly with each consecutive day.
Amid mounting criticism directed towards Fox News following the exit of Tucker Carlson and a subsequent dip in primetime ratings, host Brian Kilmeade took to the airwaves to defend his network.Speaking on a podcast with host Frank Morano last week, Kilmeade emphasized that Fox was “just as strong as ever,”

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) doubled down on his rejection of House Republicans’ debt limit bill Monday, accusing the GOP of risking default and vowing to hold Senate hearings to “expose the true impact” of the legislation.
Schumer wrote in a “Dear Colleague” letter that the Senate would begin examining the bill, which passed in the House last week, in a Budget Committee hearing Thursday.“This bill was hastily drafted and forced through the House at a break-neck speed,” Schumer wrote, arguing it was not vetted in a House committee the way bills typically are.

The Democrats have left the goal wide open. Almost anyone could defeat President Joe Biden, whose physical and mental decline can no longer be hidden from the public.
Almost anyone.Yet, with a kind of hideous slow-motion inevitability, the Republicans seem determined to pick the one candidate that we know Biden can beat. We can say that definitively, for it is a matter of observed fact rather than conjecture.
It is agonizing for friends of the United States to watch the two parties, in the grip of their weird internal dynamics, plumping for candidates whom they know in their souls to be unsuitable.

State Sen. Shevrin Jones can often be seen at the Florida Capitol greeting staff and colleagues with a smile or laugh, but when he’s alone it’s a different story. “The outward expression is to show God’s love. That’s what I was taught,” said Jones, a Democrat. But, he said, “I have enough tears in my car to fill a lake.” For Jones, who is gay, the past two years have been emotionally draining as Florida passed a flurry of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.CORRECTION*

For the past year or so, Hunter Biden’s lawyers have spent the bulk of their billable hours responding to the Department of Justice’s investigation into their client’s questionable business dealings. But on Monday, the president’s son headed to Arkansas after he was ordered to appear in court for a contempt hearing in his paternity case. According to court filings, Lunden Roberts, the mother of Biden’s 4-year-old estranged daughter, wants Biden to be held in contempt and placed in jail for allegedly withholding evidence in the paternity suit. In 2019, a DNA test confirmed that Biden was the father of the

A Republican councilman in Indiana is going viral after writing on Facebook that he now identifies as a woman of color in an apparent effort to troll the left. Ryan Webb, a father of five who is married to his wife, Brandy, is currently a councilman for Delaware County, Indiana, according to his official account.
But he raised eyebrows after he announced his gender transition on Facebook, in a move that some conservative commentators are interpreting as a joke. Webb himself has said that he is holding up a "mirror to the political left" to expose the contradictions in gender ideology. "After much consideration I have decided
