I was as surprised as the next person when I recognized that I might be drawn to becoming a Catholic nun.
I graduated from pharmacy school in 1981 and was out of the church during my college years. I had a house, I was going on vacation, I was living the good life, and I had some money, but still, something was missing. (snip) The Catholic Church was, and still sometimes is, slow to embrace the LGBTQ+ community.
I started my healthcare career as a pharmacist in the early '80s at the cusp of the AIDS epidemic. I was in Chicago working as an oncology pharmacist, treating many gay men

Many so-called Catholic nuns are more concerned with their socialist crap than with their religious standards.

Weirdo. I suspect this nun championing LGBTQ is of that persuasion. Not with all of course, but one reason men become priests is to explain why they never marry because they are gay. And thus comes the temptation with choir boys. Do some become nuns because they are also homosexual. Homosexuality does occur among nuns.

This woman is a nun and thinks it is OK to mutilate minors who are confused. AIDS is a horrible disease and we know how it is transmitted. If someone is too careless to protect themselves then it is a shame but I am not going to stay up at night over it. I might for a kid who was talked into a sex transition though.

Sister don’t forget the Bible’s statements on harming children and millstones- assuming you are familiar with that Book.

If the Catholic church excommunicated all their LGBT priests and nuns, there would be a major shortage.

This Nun believes in mutilating children how nice. Someone should ask the Bishop in that area, if he agrees.

You cannot claim to be a Catholic nun and support people who suffer from body dysphoria by claiming it's not mental illness. She's using her Catholicism for her Liberal agenda. Go back to the Convent.

Oh, where to begin? I had 12 years of nuns growing up, and I can count on less than one hand the ones that weren’t passive aggressive, manipulating, pious phonies. Nuns are the one thing in the Catholic Church I cannot reconcile. Most have lesbian tendencies, and sexual abuse of postulants, other nuns and school children is one of their dirty little secrets. While the nuns of my youth made a stab at serving God, the nuns of today are nasty, angry, progressive servants of liberalism. This woman and her sanctimonious blathering on and on is typical of this group of activists. Women like this are the ones who will become priests, if the Church ever allows it, and that is why I am dead set against it. I can spot one of these women a mile away. They are either ex, current or nun wannabes. And, as far as people being marginalized within the Church, Sis, try being a conservative in a Jesuit parish, which is where these battle axes have found a home.

A celibate nun asking questions who has never had sex with a man. Sister Battista, you are that hard up now that you encourage the trannies to go for it? Would the Priests agree?

FTA: Our church has had all kinds of flawed thinking throughout the years.
She's got that right. Of course, we all know that she isn't referring to her own "flawed thinking".

There is a lot to unpack here. I grew up in Catholic schools and there were good and pious nuns and there were lousy and radical nuns. Sometimes there were lousy pious nuns, rarely radical nuns who were pious. The name Jean Donovan kept coming to mind as I read this article. I don't really know why Sister joined the convent. Everything she does could be done as a single or married woman. Anyway, my overall thought is that Sister Barbara hands out serpents while these young ones ask for a fish. No bread, just stones.
Lastly, please don't rip on the truly good nuns that we have had in the past and today. We have a lovely order of IHMs in our diocese and they are jewels and a joy to be around.

A Catholic nun? I'm all respectful of nuns, having been taught by them for eight years in Catholic school. Catholic nuns are not the ones to have opinions on culture. She needs simply to go to church and pray and acting like she know anything about life.

As I see it, it's pretty simple. If you believe what you read in the Bible, it says "and God created man in his Own Image. Then " the Lord God created Woman from a Rib he took from Man". Pretty simple. No mention of anyone allowed to mess with what God created. If a Priest, or a Nun can't understand and believe that to be true, they don't belong in The Church teaching Others!

FTA: Initially, we would have signed off the letter as "Catholic Women Religious" because that's how we identify ourselves. But after some feedback, we decided to have gender-neutral terms in the whole document. We left out the word "woman" ...
Probably couldn't define "woman". They should have left out the word "Religious". Under a different pope they wouldn't be catholic much longer, either.

For the life of me I can’t understand why women even if they’re lesbians are so happy to give up women’s rights to men. Don’t they realise that they’re prioritising men over their mothers, daughters, sisters? They should be ashamed of themselves.

I hope I can be a fly on the wall when all the alleged religious folks have to explain to God Himself why they served Satan instead of God. Gonna be a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth to put it mildly.

The Catholic Church is slow to embrace the LGBTQ community because there is a Bible sitting in every pew and a stack of them in the back of the church that says homosexuality and it's various perversions are seen as evil in the eyes of God. It was written a couple of thousand years ago, give or take. To normal people it feels evil, you feel your skin crawling every time you are reminded of what people do to each other and to children. Straighten up lady.
