We need a state constitutional amendment
limiting the power of teachers’ unions

Imagine a scenario where you and your fellow cube dwellers could band together, go to your boss, and tell him “If you give us a big fat raise at the expense of the shareholders, we’ll give you a personal kickback.” That’s what teachers’ unions do. The union members band together, package some payola in the form of union dues, launder it into “campaign contributions,” and give it to politicians who control the union members’ pay. In return, the politicians vote to increase the pay of the union members.

Unions should be forbidden for ALL public employees. Even FDR felt this way. OP is exactly right - it allows for bribery to elected office-holders.

How about we repeal the law that allowed public sector service employees to unionize in the first place? They don't represent their members at all, they're the source of inbred nepotism and corruption, and politicians will promise them anything. Their contracts and rules make it impossible to get rid of incompetent and underperforming employees, and when their mismanaged pensions funds go insolvent they're the first ones lining up at the public trough for bailouts.

It's not just the teacher's unions in the People's Republic of Colorado who need their wings clipped. It is also the Denver deep state which is largely funded by the law firm, Brownstein, Hyatt, Farber, and Schreck and Denver City Hall. Local corruption at its best. While you are it, look up, "Denver Players Denver Sugar" one of these days to understand how the local politicos enjoy their women and how a young whistleblower in state government was shamed into silence.

Unions and corruption go hand in hand. They don't protect anyone other than those in charge. Grew up in a heavily unionized area. Lots of strikes. One company had a strike that went on for over a year. Strike benefits had run out, and a majority of workers were ready to go back to work. The company made one final offer warning if it was not accepted the plant would be shutdown permanently. Workers apparently agreed to the deal, but the union officials somehow overruled it saying the dissenters had won. Hundreds of people lost their jobs when the company followed through on their warning. They were shocked by the betrayal. Another union had an election where the union boss was running for re-election. His chief opponent, wife, and daughter were found murdered in their home. Police caught up with the murderers. They had been paid to do it. In the end it went all the way up to the union boss. In spite of the assassination, the boss won re-election. He had that much influence. Feds stepped in and threw out the election. In the end, the union boss was sentenced to life in prison and died there.

First, the teacher's union has failed their members, as most are working in hostile work environments. Second, you should never be allowed to have people negotiate salary, benefits and pensions with those who need your campaign contributions to get elected. Then, also elect the school boards with people who will only listen to what you say, and not the parents or children in the schools.

Hurrah for the IDF, but does Iran already

This war has been distinctly one-sided so far. It’s been all Israel and no Iran. But we won’t know for days or weeks how successful the Israeli Defense Forces were in their main objective of disabling Iran’s nuclear weapon program. Israel says it intends to pound Iran for two weeks. If that pounding entails anything like the strikes yesterday which involved about 200 aircraft, and if Iran’s air defenses don’t improve (in fact, they are apt to deteriorate even more from the bombings) then Iran could be crippled for decades. I’m all for it. But here are some known unknowns:

Elon Musk – a man I admire greatly but not unreservedly – used ketamine. It’s not just a rumor. He wrote about it in a series of posts on what was then Twitter. Ketamine is a manufactured drug that was originally designed as an anesthetic, and is still used for that purpose. However, it was noticed some years ago that in doses much lower than the anesthetic dose, it produces hallucinations. The effect is similar to that of other hallucinogenic drugs like LSD or naturally-occurring psilocybin (“magic mushrooms”). Ketamine, LSD, psilocybin and many other hallucinogens are thought not to be physically addictive

If you’re the media, you call it a “mostly peaceful protest.” Normal people might call it an “insurrection.” But “insurrection” is not quite right, either. “Insurrection” implies a violent revolt against the government by its own citizens, not violence by uninvited foreigners who refuse to leave. I suppose you could call it a riot, but when its foreigners claiming ownership of the land, it’s a bit more than that. So, the question remains: What do you call it when foreigners: illegally enter the country, refuse our requests that they leave, assert ownership over the land, attack our people, places and government, under the colors of their foreign flag while burning the American flag,

President Trump enjoys campaigning. The first campaign was in 2016 when he criticized the ill-advised deal that Obama had struck with Iran the year before. Under that deal, Iran promised not to develop nukes – but only for a few years. Moreover, the inspection requirements were toothless, and Iran began violating them immediately by continuing its nuke program. Trump rightly called that deal “a disaster” and “the worst deal ever” (which is saying quite a lot when it comes to deals made by Obama). After he was elected in 2016, Trump cancelled the deal. And Iran continued its nuke program.

At the outset, let me state my bona fides. I voted for Trump three times. I publicly supported his candidacy back when the media deemed him and his supporters like me stupid racists. That was back when “Trump is literally Hitler” was the meme of the moment amongst the kind of people who don’t know the meaning of Hitler and don’t know the meaning of “literally.” Which is to say, most of the current mainstream media. For the record, Trump is not Hitler, not literally or metaphorically, nor is he a fascist. Contrary to popular belief engendered by the lamestream media, the word “fascist” does not mean “Republican.”

Harvard deserves punishment. For years, they boasted in their published materials that they had a policy to favor certain ethnic groups. Accordingly, they favored a Native American with the improbable name of Elizabeth Warren to fill a law professor position. When called out for their discrimination, they said that – in violation of their stated policy – they had not favored her. Comically, it turned out Warren wasn’t Native American anyway. And so, in her case, Harvard failed at racial discrimination despite their best efforts. Usually, however, they’ve succeeded.

First, my sympathies for the Biden family. I’ve been there. Now, here’s my puzzlement. Prostate cancer is notoriously slow-growing. Although prostate cancer is the second-leading cause of cancer deaths among men (second to only lung cancer), that’s not because it’s so deadly, but because it’s so common. It’s a fact that more men die with prostate cancer than of it. Of those who die, the typical mechanism of death is by the cancer cells metastasizing to other organs and/or to the bones. It takes years for that to happen – typically something like 5-10 years even without treatment, and even longer with treatment.

His accompanying comment was: “Cool shell formation on my beach walk.” In case you were born yesterday, the number “86” is slang for terminating a person or thing. If a gangster talks about “86’ing” you, you’re toast. The number “47” of course corresponds to President Trump as the 47th President.

Why do Catholics still worship an old king in a palace? I understand why they did in the old days. Everybody did. (Well, except Christ didn’t.) There was Henry VIII, Louis XIV, Charlemagne and, in folklore, King Arthur. There were also king-like rulers called emperors, such as Julius Caesar, Peter the Great, and Napoleon Bonaparte. It was way back in the olden days that Catholics set up the papacy, their kingship. Their first Pope was said to be the Apostle named Peter, who used to be called Simon.

The Earth could be doomed to breach the symbolic 1.5C warming limit in as little as three years at current levels of carbon dioxide emissions. That's the stark warning from more than 60 of the world's leading climate scientists in the most up-to-date assessment of the state of global warming. Nearly 200 countries agreed to try to limit global temperature rises to 1.5C above levels of the late 1800s in a landmark agreement in 2015, with the aim of avoiding some of the worst impacts of climate change.

Carbon dioxide, we’ve been told over and again, is the enemy that must be subdued if we are to avoid catastrophic global warming. It is, however, a faulty premise. Physics, not politics, tells us that man’s CO2 emissions will not cause catastrophic climate change nor an increase in extreme weather. “The common belief that CO2 is the main driver of climate change and the EPA Endangerment Finding assertion that ‘elevated concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere may reasonably be anticipated’ to endanger the public health and welfare are scientifically false,” conclude the authors of a new paper.

For political junkies who cut their teeth on “60 Minutes,” “Meet the Press,” CNN, and Fox News, longform podcasts were a godsend. Finally freed of commercial restraints and surface-level superficialities, longform podcasts took you beyond the talking points, treating audiences to a deep dive of a topic’s intricacies. Even when the podcast host had limited knowledge of the subject matter (Joe Rogan, I’m looking at you), the benefit of the longform platform was that it facilitated an open-ended, free-floating conversation where both sides learned more about the other. But there was an important catch: It only worked when both sides were acting in good faith.

The high court ruled 6-3 in rejecting the challenge from the Biden administration, three families and a physician who had argued that Tennessee's law violated the Constitution's guarantee of equal protection under the law. The court concluded that the state's measure, enacted in 2023, does not run afoul of the 14th Amendment.

Israel needs a 15-ton ‘bunker buster’ bomb to destroy the last untouched nuclear facility in Iran, but only the US has one. Such a powerful weapon – the largest non-nuclear bomb in the US arsenal – is needed because the target, Fordow Fuel Enrichment Plant, is built some 300 feet inside a mountain near the city of Qom, two hours south of Tehran. The heavyweight explosive is known as a GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator and was designed by Boeing for the United States Air Force. Its huge weight means it can only be delivered with a B-2 Spirit stealth bomber – a jet Israel’s air force does not possess.
