Chicago ousts embattled Mayor Lori Lightfoot,

Democratic Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot has lost her bid for re-election as the race heads to runoff without her after no candidate reached the required 50% vote threshold to be elected. Lightfoot faced challenges from eight other candidates in the race, including Chicago Public Schools CEO and city budget director Paul Vallas, who held a significant double-digit lead in the polls ahead of Election Day. Leading up to the election, Lightfoot also narrowly trailed Brandon Johnson, a member of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, by two points, and was in a dead heat with Democratic Rep. Jesus "Chuy" Garcia who represents Illinois's 4th Congressional District.

With so many murdered people on her watch, you'd think that voting bloc alone would have given her enough votes.

In the last couple of days, I’ve written about how FBI Director Christopher Wray admitted that his agency concluded “quite some time ago” that the COVID virus escaped from a Wuhan, China virology lab, and how “sources” recently told the Washington Post that FBI agents were against the August 2022 raid on former President’s Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate. What’s the commonality between the two stories? They both make the FBI look better, and they both indicate that Wray might be playing a game of CYA and distancing himself from the dictatorial, partisan Attorney General, Merrick Garland.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appears poised to suspend another prosecutor from office, this time zeroing in on how a central Florida state attorney dealt with the 19-year-old man accused of killing three people in Orlando, including a television reporter. DeSantis has already publicly criticized State Attorney Monique Worrell’s handling of previous prosecutions of the suspect, Keith Moses, who had a record of arrests as a juvenile and was on probation at the time he allegedly went on a shooting spree. On Tuesday, DeSantis’ general counsel demanded that Worrell turn over emails, reports and documents related to Moses, including his juvenile record. The request is significant because

Air Mobility Command has directed its refueling and cargo planes to obscure the majority of identifying information painted on the aircraft, citing national security concerns -- an unusual move that is alarming to government watchdogs. James Stewart, a spokesman for Air Mobility Command, told Military.com in an emailed statement that airmen's missions take them around the globe and often involve sensitive movements of cargo -- the main reason behind the change. "Understandably, we have concerns about the operational security impacts to these missions in the modern era of on-demand, real-time information," Stewart said. President Joe Biden on Wednesday raised clear concern that the Supreme Court may decide to strike down his student debt cancellation program, one day after several conservative justices expressed skepticism about the administration’s authority. “I’m confident we’re on the right side of the law,” Biden told CNN when asked if he was confident the administration would prevail in the case. “I’m not confident of the outcome of the decision yet.” Biden’s comments, which he made as he departed the White House for the House Democratic retreat in Baltimore, come the day after oral arguments on two challenges to the program to cancel up to $20,000 in student loan debt held

CNN can’t seem to get it together, but it only has itself to blame. For the beleaguered news channel, February was a month spent either being completely lackluster and forgettable to earning headlines thanks to its most identifiable host being horrifically sexist. According to Mediaite, CNN tanked in viewership in February, seeing paltry numbers that hadn’t been seen for the network in over a decade. Moreover, its new morning program featuring Don Lemon is bleeding out as well: February saw CNN hit lows in the demo not seen in over ten years. CNN prime time demo average of 122,000 viewers, while still above MSNBC’s 119,000, marked the network’s smallest audience since 2013.

A new Yahoo News/You Gov poll confirms what is obvious to most people. President Biden is really old, too old according to a majority to run for president again. Nearly 7 in 10 registered voters (68%) now say President Biden is “too old for another term,” according to a new Yahoo News/YouGov poll — and more Democrats agree (48%) than disagree (34%) with that assessment. The survey of 1,516 U.S. adults, which was conducted from Feb. 23 to 27, underscores the central challenge facing the oldest president in American history as he gears up for a likely reelection bid — and the difficult position his age is putting his party in. A stunning report in Wednesday’s Washington Post details the tensions between FBI agents and Justice Department attorneys over the August raid of former President Donald Trump’s Florida home, Mar-a-Lago. FBI officials were leery of the plan, and pleaded for a more measured approach, while DOJ prosecutors were hell-bent on a surprise incursion to search for classified documents: Prosecutors argued that new evidence suggested Trump was knowingly concealing secret documents at his Palm Beach, Fla., home and urged the FBI to conduct a surprise raid at the property. Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis explained why he went to war with the Disney corporation in a Wall Street Journal op-ed late Tuesday. The governor signed legislation revoking Disney’s special privileges and self-governing status established under the 1967 Reedy Creek Improvement Act. The new legislation, HB 9-B, established a new-state controlled district, a five-member state control board and requires the corporation to pay taxes to the state. DeSantis wrote in the op-ed that Disney’s special status is an “indefensible example of corporate welfare” that allowed the corporation to violate state fire safety codes and use eminent domain on private property outside of its district.
