I guess all that “culture” (human feces and heroin needles) and “excitement” (rampant crime) of life in a big city is getting a little old for Michael Moritz, a partner at Sequoia Capital. But, don’t you smug conservatives get any ideas, these blights aren’t a byproduct of Democrat ideas — San Francisco is merely “held hostage” by “political classes.” In an essay published by The New York Times today, Moritz acknowledged the city was indeed “crippled” by “homeless encampments” and “drug addicts” before he blamed conservatives for rubbing Democrat noses in the mess. As a resident of San Francisco my entire adult life there are a few things Michael Moritz got right. The tyranny of the minority he speaks of is the fact that the politicians we elected have, for the past few decades, been much farther to the left than the citizens. The reason for this is that no one gets elected there without having come through the several Democratic Party clubs that vet all candidates. Most elections feature the choice of voting for a ardent left-winger or a psychotic left-winger. Money and time are assets the clubs have that voters don't have. Most people work for a living and don't have the time to thoroughly investigate the candidates. I'm not excusing us voters but when nearly all candidates are such nut jobs, but who are promoted by the establishment, choices are limited. Unless people forget San Francisco citizens within the last two years ejected radical members of the school board and removed the Soros District Attorney. There have been a number of voter initiatives that have been passed to crack down on homelessness. Those enforcing them have been derelict. It is true that most voters are Democrats and for that I have to say, we have gotten what we deserve.

An Australian news anchor struggled to keep a straight face while covering the results of Joe Biden’s recent physical, which gave him a clean bill of health. “President Biden remains a healthy, vigorous 80-year-old male, who is fit to successfully execute the duties of the Presidency, to include those as Chief Executive, Head of State and Commander in Chief,” White House Physician Kevin O’Connor claimed. Well, Sky News Australia host Rita Panahi found O’Connor’s assessment so absurd she couldn’t contain her laughter as she contrasted O’Connor’s finding with clips of Biden’s verbal stumbles, gaffes, and other embarrassing hits. It’s nice to know this is how Biden is perceived by other countries.

It comes only days after it was announced that Roald Dahl’s books would be revised to eliminate politically incorrect phrases. In a way revision is nothing new for the pop culture character. James Bond has been under constant revision almost from the moment he first appeared so that he is no longer the 30 something ex Royal Marine commando fighting the USSR in the immediate aftermath of WW2 but a cartoon. He went from fighting the historical SMERSH to the ahistorical SPECTRE. He went through a slew of actors and style eras. In

Neil Winton worked as a journalist at Reuters for 32 years, including a stint in the 1990s as a global Science and Technology Correspondent. This gave him a unique perspective on the debate over climate change. In the 1990s, climate change hysteria was still manageable. There were ample voices questioning the growing narrative about CO2 generated by human industrial activity being the major cause of rising temperatures. But in the last two decades, “science” has taken a back seat to activism. Winton points out that temperatures have been rising for 10,000 years since the end of the last ice age. And that increase has been uneven, with warming stopping,

Joe and Jill went up the hill, and who knows when they’ll come tumbling down. The nation may careen well before they do. Here I will focus on the other half of the Biden tandem, a woman of scholarly pretensions without foundation, the ineffable Dr. Jill. The adulation Jill Biden has received for so flimsy a dubious accomplishment as a paper doctorate in a derelict field like Education Studies is utterly misplaced, whether it is the mentally impregnable

Earlier this week, the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) cut ties with Rick Warren’s Saddleback Church. The influential Southern California-based congregation had been part of the SBC since its founding, but the denomination dismissed Saddleback over a decision that founding pastor Warren made shortly before he retired. In 2021, Warren ordained three women as pastors, which caused the SBC to consider disciplining the church or kicking it out of the denomination. One of those women, Stacie Wood, the wife of lead pastor Andy Wood, is a “teaching pastor.” On Tuesday, the SBC Executive Committee deemed Saddleback

The mania for electric vehicles is a fad that is driven 100% by government regulation. The consumer verdict on EVs has been in for a century. Some of the earliest cars were battery-powered, but they lost out to gasoline-powered cars because gasoline-powered vehicles are better. Those who have been paying attention understand that there is zero chance that our existing motor vehicle fleet will be converted to EVs. Mark Tapscott sums up some of the reasons. I want to focus on just one of his points, the fact that the lithium batteries needed to replace our current vehicle fleet would require ridiculous amounts of mining of minerals, particularly lithium,

Surprise. Our electric grids were shaky to begin with. They cover vast distances and are not being properly maintained. But then the Democrats come in with the brilliant idea of spending hundreds of billions on erratic and unreliable wind and solar which then delivers power erratically and puts a further strain on the grids. As the money gets shoveled out the door, unworkable and unfeasible green energy projects go out the door. And the grids can’t handle them. PJM Interconnection, which operates the nation’s largest regional grid, stretching from Illinois to New Jersey, has been so inundated by connection requests that last year it announced a freeze on new applications until 2026,

These incentives mainly take the form of purchase rebates, tax exemptions and tax credits, and additional perks that range from access to bus lanes to waivers on fees (charging, parking, tolls, etc.).” [Emphasis added] The campaign by the Western elite in the U.S. and Europe to force everybody else to stop driving

Vladimir Putin recently made waves when he withdrew Russia from its last remaining nuclear arms control agreement with the U.S., citing Russia’s determination to stop decadent Western evil as motivation. But the first prominent mention of Russia’s new role as champion for good against Western evil didn’t come from Putin but in a Red Square speech by Ivan Okhlobystin, an actor and defrocked priest dressed as Dr. Strangelove. Putin’s militant virtue would be foreshadowed there. But even before Okhlobystin, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn pointed out in his 1983 Templeton Prize speech that the war on God had already been started by Karl Marx and the French revolution.

For two years, the Democrats have insisted that, on Jan. 6, 2021, the republic was shaken to its foundations by an “insurrection” mounted by wild-eyed MAGA extremists. They attempted to reinforce this claim with a series of hyper-partisan hearings, complete with video edited for dramatic effect by a professional television producer. This left most of the footage captured by Capitol surveillance cameras on the cutting room floor, and the Democrats refused to release any of the unused video to the public. Thus, after the midterms, Kevin McCarthy pledged to make it public if elected speaker of the House. He kept his word, and the Democrats are clearly alarmed.
