A high-flying ABC news producer who died outside a Bobby Van's steakhouse in Manhattan after enjoying a meal with his wife while their young daughters were left alone in a hotel room choked to death while drunk.
Dax Tejera, 37, died two days before Christmas while spending the holidays in New York City with his family. His bosses at ABC previously attributed his death to a heart attack.
Hours later, his wife, Veronica Tejera, was arrested on child endangerment charges after it emerged the couple had left their children, aged two years old and five months old, in their hotel room.

2 and 5 months old and they left them in a motel room alone?
It's really hard to believe that anyone could be that stupid.
I hope that the kids weren't returned to her.
She is obviously too dumb to give the children the proper care.

If he was a high flying producer, he should have been able to wrangle some babysitting from the hotel. Those spendy hotels usually offer babysitting services if you need it. What a couple of nasty people, leaving those babies alone in the hotel room. She not only needed arresting, she needs to lose custody of those babies permanently.

As the great American philosopher Harry Callhan once said, "A man has GOT to know his limitations."
Drinking like that at 37 years of age is a sign of serious problems.

Does anyone even watch network television anymore? I mean, these are the people who are making the decisions about programming. Poor decisions all around.

Actions have consequences. Just an aside but it takes a special kind of absence of common sense to leave a baby and a barely-toddler in a HOTEL room alone in New York while dining out and drink so much you kill yourself. Dad, husband, mom and wife of the year. Needless to say for our family such conduct would beyond outer space not happen. The story stretches credulity.

Horrible leaving an infant and a toddler alone in a hotel room. I hope the children are placed in a home where they will be protected and nurtured.

Two words, Door Dash. He may still be alive and his children would certainly have been more safe. What in the world are these parents thinking?

The wife's defense was that they left wireless cameras trained on the children while they were gone, and they were just a block away from the hotel. Being dead-drunk undercuts that argument. Parents of young children have no business getting drunk, even more, so drunk to that level.

Truth is often stranger than fiction, but aspects of this story do NOT add up -- or there is a lot that has been left out.
1. They were out with friends for 2 hours at Bobby Van's. Upon leaving, he collapses on the sidewalk, they call 911...he's transported to the hospital and is dead upon arrival. I have a hard time believing that trained medics could not unblock his airway, either through the heimlich maneuver or with a trach.
2. He choked after he walked out of the restaurant because of acute intoxication? Was he still chowing down steak after he left? He was on the sidewalk outside of the restaurant...What was he eating at that point? Very odd.
3. He was acutely intoxicated after 2 hours - was he doing shot after shot in between bites of high priced steak? Or had he been drinking all day?
Again, most of this makes no sense...while it was wrong to leave the children unattended, how long had they been unattended -- 2 hours or 4 or 5 hours? Also, why is this story coming out so long after it happened? The original version, that he died suddenly of a heart attack after walking out of the restaurant, makes a lot more sense than this story (regardless of the vaccine aspect).
