Florida teachers are being told to make their classroom libraries — and any other books that haven’t been approved by the state — inaccessible to students.
The policy was put into place last week in response to HB 1467, which Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) signed into law last March. That law established that teachers could not pick books that they say are appropriate for their students based on their own idea of what’s “appropriate.”
The teachers are complaining that the state doesn’t trust them to choose only approved literature. And they’re right.
And that’s a good thing.

A 67-year-old veteran farm worker has killed seven fellow Chinese agricultural laborers in what local news described as a workplace dispute.
Zhao Chunli, who lived in Half Moon Bay, was arrested and is 'fully cooperating' with law enforcement, officials said.
The shootings took place at two separate locations in Half Moon Bay, with four shot at a farm run by Concord Farms, and three at Mountain Mushroom Farms two miles away. Officials are unsure which was attacked first.

They showed up in a group to tell the city to shut down the event because it was being run by a “hate group.”
The city owns the venue but rents it out to a private entertainment company. It’s not clear if the city of Des Plaines has the authority to cancel an event based on the content, and it would in fact be very dangerous grounds

European politician Věra Jourová warned Elon Musk from the World Economic Forum in Davos that Twitter will face "sanctions" if it does not shut down some forms of speech.
Jourová, the European Commission’s Vice President for Values and Transparency, told Euronews Next that Twitter may face penalties for enabling free speech in violation of European Union regulations. "The time of the Wild West is over," she said.
Charles McGonigal, a retired counterintelligence investigator from the FBI’s New York Field Office, was just arrested because he allegedly took substantial sums of money from Oleg Deripaska, a Russian billionaire, to get the latter off a U.S. sanctions list. Where this goes beyond the ordinary corruption that periodically crops up among people with too much power, too few morals, and too little accountability is that McGonigal was one of the people investigating Trump over the Russia Hoax, while Deripaska employed Christopher Steele, whose false dossier seeded the Russia Hoax.
