After weeks of discussion, the Biden administration is preparing to send Abrams tanks to Ukraine, according to three senior U.S. officials.
The administration may announce the decision as early as Wednesday. The current plan includes a couple dozen Abrams tanks, but the officials stressed that the decision is not yet final and could change. The tanks would not be available to the Ukrainians immediately. It will take many months before the high-tech vehicles arrive on the ground in Ukraine, the officials said, and the training for Ukrainian troops is also expected to take several months.
The tanks would be paid for through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative,

All with the intent to turn the technology over to Russia and China. This is a very dumb stupid and dangerous idea and a threat to national security.

The deep state is trying their hardest to get the country into a war so they can make huge profits and get a bunch of us killed.

I didn't think there were any Russian tanks left and that the threat is down to long-range missiles. Why do they now need our main battle tanks? They're already receiving Panthers from Poland. There is something very wrong going on here.

Can't they just have Stacey Abrams squeeze into a shirt saying "TANK", and air-drop her into the fray?

Tanks in the Ukraine war are like Polish cavalry charges against older model German tanks. You have dead horses? Order some more? Tanks in Ukraine have died by the thousands, on both sides, so what to do? Hey, lets go to the corral and rustle up some more tanks, this time courtesy of the US taxpayers. Tanks are like Hannibal's war elephants; after the initial shock the Romans knew what to do. Tanks get bogged down in the mud, so while the tracks are being hosed off, a missile from 70 miles away can make a million dollar Abrams just a memory. At least the tankers won't be Americans. The US Army is developing the M1 tank powered by a jet engine weighing a sleek 140 thousand pounds. Biden and his generals are thinking about an all electric tank with a portable Hoover Dam to charge it. General Mark Milley, how about a nuclear powered tank...that'll get the Chinese' attention. What about needing PhDs for maintenance or an illiterate soldier with an anti tank missile....la la la...I can't hear you.

We have 2,300 early model M1 Abrams tanks that have been surplussed for many years, never upgraded to current M1A1 specifications. These are never going to be used by the US Army, wiil just sit in storage for another decade or so and then be scrapped.
This is like the hundreds of surplus ships, tens of thousands of aircraft and thousands of tanks that we put into storage after WW2. The overwhelming majority of them were scapped in a decade or two. Some of them were given to allies and used to keep them free.
This is just a continuation of the standard procedure for dealing with outdated and unneeded US military equipment.
I draw the line at sending any American troops, but would rather see people able to fight for their own freedom with our old gear that we'll never use.

Don't forget, either American contractors or U.S. military personnel will need to train them on the Abrams. You don't just jump in one and go shooting. Troops train for years in tactics and systems in order to utilize this weapon effectively. I suspect the Russians may be looking forward to testing their anti-tank air support on America's top of the line tank.

Re #14. These are NOT "America's top line tank".
The M1s are outdated, old surplus that we will never upgrade wiith new armor, guns and sighting system to be M1A1 tanks.
Facts are stubborn things and no matter what people say these are old vehicles that the US Army will never use. They don't have current armor, let alone the weapons systems.
These models were high tech in 1980, when Apple IIs were modern computers and PCs used 5 1/4 floppy drives and didn't have any hard drive.
They need MASSIVE factory upgrades to become the M1A1 models that the US Army uses. We surplussed them for good reasons.
