Nearly two months after the death of dozens of calves south of Meeker — originally believed to be caused by wolves — wildlife officials, veterinarians and the rancher who suffered the losses all remain perplexed as to how the animals died. The role wolves may have played has diminished since the original news release by the Colorado Parks and Wildlife on Oct. 7, but the predator has not been completely ruled out. Meanwhile, disease has gained ground as a possible cause. Jerry Klinglesmith, the Meeker-area rancher who suffered the losses reported Oct. 4, recently released what he said is the most likely

Xi Jinping, just starting a third term as head of China’s ruling Communist Party, is having a bad week. It wasn’t supposed to be this way. In his first two terms, Xi cracked down hard on opposition to government policies, cut back on his predecessors’ economic liberalization and purged rivals to consolidate power. But now he faces grassroots protests across China, with large groups of demonstrators even calling for him to step down and Communist Party rule to end. Protesters aren’t just denouncing Xi, the party and the government’s heavy-handed COVID policies — they’re also objecting to rampant censorship by holding up blank sheets of paper. WASHINGTON — President Joe Biden hails unions at almost every turn, often declaring "unions built the middle class" and that his goal is to be "the most pro-union president" in U.S. history. But as he urges Congress to intervene in a labor dispute to avert a freight rail strike before the holidays, the president is facing a backlash from labor allies. Union workers hoped to secure paid sick leave in a final contract, among other assurances, but congressional action pushed by Biden would force some terms they oppose. "The actions speak for themselves. Don't tell me what you are. Show me

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) is saying that certain Bible verses are “no longer appropriate” to be read in public in court, News Letter reports. The comment was made in writing during the legal proceedings for a now-dismissed case the CPS brought against street preacher John Dunns over an altercation between the preacher and two lesbians. During the confrontation, the 55-year-old veteran allegedly shouted that the women should “burn in hell” and called one of them a “devil woman.” Dunns, who was charged under the Public Order Act, denies the allegations.

Elon Musk accused Apple of threatening to block Twitter from its app store without saying why in a series of tweets on Monday that also said the iPhone maker had stopped advertising on the social media platform. The billionaire CEO of Twitter and Tesla said Apple was pressuring Twitter over content moderation demands. The action, unconfirmed by Apple, would not be unusual as the company has routinely enforced its rules and previously removed apps such as Gab and Parler.
Should The U.S. Be More Like China? replies

Some years ago, New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman said “if we could just be China for a day” we would be able to “authorize the right solutions … on everything from the economy to environment.” It’s a fantasy often dreamed of, usually in secret, by Western elites. For the rest of us, it’s a nightmare. While our country, and much of the world, has finally walked away from most of the liberty-robbing and soul-crushing pandemic restrictions, China is convulsing over the government’s zero-tolerance rules. Protests – mostly peaceful, or course – have spread across major cities. The oppressed citizens are revolting,

I‘ve been at this punditry thing for some time. I sit in my humble home office, and I read, and then I read some more. I keep a curated list of about fifty or so conservative news sites, and they aggregate the latest headlines into a single app in my browser. I choose not to read the corporate or leftist press because it has become aptly titled #fakenews. It is nothing more than disseminated propaganda, and unfortunately, at least half the conservative press is as well. The day after the 2022 midterm elections, it is astonishing how Conservative, Inc.

Twitter owner Elon Musk announced that files on “free speech suppression” at Twitter will soon be made public, which could include information related to the platform’s sordid censorship of the 2020 Hunter Biden laptop scandal. A Twitter user tweeted Nov. 23, “Raise your hand if you think @ElonMusk should make public all internal discussions about the decision to censor the @NYPost’s story on Hunter Biden’s laptop before the 2020 Election in the interest of Transparency.” Musk responded, “This is necessary to restore public trust.” Musk then tweeted Nov. 28, “The Twitter Files on free speech suppression soon to be published on Twitter itself. The public deserves

White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre sent a veiled threat to Twitter CEO Elon Musk when she claimed that the The White House is “monitoring” Twitter after Musk took over the platform. When asked about the White House’s concerns that a Musk-owned Twitter might become a “vector of misinformation,” Jean-Pierre made it clear that the White House has all eyes on Musk. "This is something that we're certainly keeping an eye on,” she said. “It is [social media platforms’] responsibility to make sure when it comes to misinformation, when it comes to the hate that we’re seeing, that they take action, that they continue to take

During recent public appearances, President Joe Biden has continued to complain about energy prices as well as the potentially catastrophic shortage of diesel that has been forecast to hit the United States soon, particularly in the northeast. Of course, he never takes the blame for any of this himself. He instead tries to blame the “greedy” energy companies or, of course, Vladimir Putin. He has called for bans on oil and gas exports and even suggested a mandate that diesel stocks be maintained at a higher level. But a new report from the Institute for Energy Research addresses the actual root of these problems. What we’re facing is a significant

In what I suspect is a spate of misinformed zealotry, Apple has threatened to remove the Twitter app from its App Store. At least, according to Twitter CEO Elon Musk. This is all part of the effort by left-wing zealots to “punish” Twitter for proposing to end censorship based on political leanings. Mr. Musk said that, if pressed, he would launch his own line of phones in response. Should Apple CEO Tim Cook take such a threat seriously, or can he laugh it off? I think he’d best take it very seriously.
