Republicans building a massive Biden accountability
agenda for 2023

Soon after COVID-19 hit the U.S., Democrats made a subtle change to House rules that shut off an important oversight tool for Republicans in the minority by restricting their ability to demand information from the Biden administration through "resolutions of inquiry." Before the pandemic, committees were instructed to take up these resolutions, which often seek all available information from the administration on topical issues of the day, within a few weeks of their introduction. Once COVID arrived, Democrats led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., allowed committees to ignore resolutions of inquiry, which stripped Republicans of their power to force committee votes on uncomfortable issues that Democrats preferred to avoid.

Comments:

Why did Pelosi bring back “resolutions of inquiry”? I can guess one reason: she knows Democrats will lose the House, and she wants her party to have the tool she denied the Republicans.

I really want the GOP to win back the House and Senate in Nov., BUT!!! Please don't repeat 1994. Newt Gingrich did too good a job and ended up saving Bill Clinton's reelection in 1996. Clinton knew when to appear reasonable, and the GOP had a horrible candidate in Bob Dole in 1996. I just don't want the Republicans to straighten the country out to the point voters are comfortable reelecting a democrat in 2024. Looking at the disaster Xiden and Company have made, it is hard to believe anyone sane could ever vote democrat again, but we all know there are lots of fools, cheaters, and grifters that would.

I see your point, #2, but wimpy Kevin McCarthy is no New Gingrich. I don’t think an outbreak of impeccable competence is going to be a “problem” under McCarthy’s leadership.

Yeah, sure. They're really tough. If they gain a majority they will switch all money-grubbing from the dims to their pockets. They sure as hell won't remember who put there. Remember Repeal and Replace?

The Washington Post handed down four "Pinocchios" to Sen. Patty Murray, D-Wash., for her claim warning of the "end" Social Security and Medicare if Republicans take control of Congress. Murray, who is fighting in a tightening reelection battle against GOP challenger Tiffany Smiley, tweeted on Sunday, "Republicans plan to end Social Security and Medicare if they take back the Senate." Glenn Kessler, the Post's fact-checker, characterized Murray's tweet as a "'Mediscare' attack" to win over senior voters. "Don’t worry, seniors: There is no such plan," Kessler assured elderly readers.

Whether by design or necessity, the decision by House Republican leaders to kick off their Commitment to America in this river town on the edge of Allegheny County was quite apt. There is no easy way to get here from Pittsburgh, or from the airport, or from our nation’s capital. House Minority Whip Steve Scalise of Louisiana laughed, saying the very point of the Commitment to America is to reach the people and places Congress neglects to the point that it needs a GPS to find them and a dictionary to spell them. The Republicans' goal, he said, is to show up and hear the concerns of people in places just

A new book reveals that House Judiciary Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., was at odds with how House Select Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's handling of impeachment proceedings against former President Trump, insisting that the methods used by the prominent Democrats were "unconstitutional" and could be used to attack the party. The revelation comes in a book set to be released on October 18 titled, "Unchecked: The Untold Story Behind Congress's Botched Impeachments of Donald Trump," written by Politico Playbook co-author Rachael Bade and Washington Post reporter Karoun Demirjian. The book chronicles the methods Democrats used to target Trump.

Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Sunday that the Democrats know "they will lose" if the midterm elections end up being a referendum on President Biden. While discussing Democratic and Republican midterm messaging, NBC's Chuck Todd played an ad by the Arizona Democratic Party focused on Kari Lake that tied together abortion rights and crime. Todd said that he wasn't sure if the ad was really effective or if they were trying too hard to tie the two issues together. "Look, I think that Democrats, if the election is about who is the most extreme

Beto O'Rourke, who is facing off against Republican Texas Gov. President Putin's decision to partially mobilize Russian reservists has sparked a mass exodus of men trying to avoid the fighting in Ukraine. Juri Rescheto reports from Riga. Thousands of Russians are trying to flee the country while they still can, fearing they will be called up and sent to fight in Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry has claimed that only 300,000 men up to the age of 55 with prior military experience are being mobilized. Russian media outlets have, however, reported cases where older individuals and men without military training have been called up as well. Online media outlet Novaya Gazeta Europe has even reported government plans

There is growing frustration throughout the country over President Joe Biden’s poor performance in handling the economy, and there appears to be no group more concerned about Biden’s lack of leadership than Latinos. In July, Quinnipiac University released a poll that showed Biden’s approval rating among Latino voters at 19% and a disapproval rating at 70%. Daniel Garza, president of the Libre Initiative, a nationwide Latino outreach organization, shared with me that “with majorities of Latinos expressing their belief that America is heading in the wrong direction and feeling the pain of runaway inflation, it is no surprise to see a political realignment — benefiting the GOP — happening in

With our border crisis worsening by the day, President Joe Biden is throwing up his hands and letting everyone know that whatever’s at fault, it’s not his terrible policies. His latest nonsense? The claim we’re seeing a border surge because “these people are fleeing communism” in Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua. No: Migrants from those countries account for 27% of August encounters with Customs and Border Patrol. They’re an increasing share of the total — but it would still be at record levels without them. And the reason for the surge from all nations is that Team Biden is (in some cases quite literally) waving migrants in

Yet he ended his political attack with an appeal for Americans to come together, forget the partisan wrangling and cooperate on bringing down costs for families. Biden held the event to advertise that Americans will pay less next year on monthly premiums for Medicare 's Part B plan,

California finds itself on edge more than ever with a lingering fear: the threat of rolling blackouts for years to come. Despite new power plants, building huge battery storage systems and restarting some shuttered fossil fuel generators over the past couple of years, California relies heavily on energy from other states — the cavalry rushing over a distant hill. Sometimes the support does not show up when expected or at all. That was the case this month, when millions of residents got cellphone alerts urging them to cut their energy use as the state teetered close to blackouts in blazing heat.
