The producer of the Bourbon Street Extravaganza, one of Southern Decadence’s signature events, has canceled the free outdoor concert over concerns about the monkeypox virus.
Thousands of revelers were expected to gather Sept. 3 at the corner of Bourbon and St. Ann streets outside the gay bar Napoleon’s Itch to hear dance music diva Jeanie Tracy and other singers.
This was to have been the Bourbon Street Extravaganza’s celebratory return after two years of cancellations prompted by the COVID pandemic.
But Napoleon’s Itch co-founder Chuck Robinson has called off the popular concert in the face of the rapidly spreading monkeypox virus. The virus, which seems to disproportionately affect gay and bisexual men,

FTA: “I have a great fear of this virus,” Robinson said. “By definition, at this event there’s closeness – when you have 20,000 people pressed to the stage for three hours, it’s close – and that’s the way monkeypox is spread.
Many of us who grew from childhood in the burnt out 'Sixties went to many concerts attended by tens of thousands of raucous fans, but we never had to worry about some fellow in the row behind trying to insert ... oh, never mind. Is that a problem in Nawluns now? I guess I won't go there.

Monkeypox at a bar named Napoleon's Itch? Bwah hah hah. (Napoleon supposedly had scables, a -- wait for it -- skin disease!)

This Robinson guy actually is being responsible under these circumstances. But who are these 300,000 coming to this event? And how many are still going to show up?

I'm not sure about the rules on this one, is this a 'Riot Worthy' cause or not?

Scabies with an eye, not scables with an ell. Darn typos.

The article references that over the years the "extravaganza" has had to cancel because of hurricanes, covid and now monkeypox. Did the organizers ever stop to think that maybe God is trying to send them a message???

Gee, reminds me of that sweet sweet Provincetown days-long orgy that resulted in a major Covid outbreak and caused the media to omit the name 'Provencetown', instead using the more sanitary name of 'Barstable County'.

Couldn't they still have the music concert but just refrain from misusing their lower Gastrointestinal tracts as a sex organ with multiple anonymous perverts?

Another gaslighting effort by the media. Monkeypox "seems to disproportionately affect gay and bisexual men..." SEEMS TO? How about the truth: Monkeypox is a disease spread by sexual contact between homosexuals and others who engage in sex with homosexuals.

"Southern Decadence" is a stellar example of truth in advertising.

FTA: " which seems to disproportionately affect gay and bisexual men," He meant to say: only effects men thru homosexual contact!

Unfortunately I looked at a video of a festival in L.A., I think, have never seen anything so disgusting in my life and I'm so sorry I looked. Owner is probably trying to prevent at his event what they were doing in the streets in L.A. In the video I watched, police were just standing around, watching. How did we get to this place in society? And they need to stop acting like anyone can catch it. Did you notice babies are getting it and do you just wonder how? I don't, I think I already know.

How can God bless a city, New Orleans, and a state, La., that sponsors something called, "Southern DECADENCE?"
About six months ago, after 33 years for me and a lifetime for my wife, we left the state that has earned its reputation. In the last 5-10 years, it has gone downhill fast. Due to the population exodus, it has lost two U.S. House Reps. It ranks third in corrupt public officials, both elected and law enforcement. Finally, for the state that has tremendous potential, it is its own worst enemy.

I have never heard the term Southern Decadence before. Louisiana is supposed to be a Catholic state, where are the RC Bishops and priests? Why are they not speaking out on this?
