The producer of the Bourbon Street Extravaganza, one of Southern Decadence’s signature events, has canceled the free outdoor concert over concerns about the monkeypox virus. Thousands of revelers were expected to gather Sept. 3 at the corner of Bourbon and St. Ann streets outside the gay bar Napoleon’s Itch to hear dance music diva Jeanie Tracy and other singers. This was to have been the Bourbon Street Extravaganza’s celebratory return after two years of cancellations prompted by the COVID pandemic. But Napoleon’s Itch co-founder Chuck Robinson has called off the popular concert in the face of the rapidly spreading monkeypox virus. The virus, which seems to disproportionately affect gay and bisexual men,

FTA: “I have a great fear of this virus,” Robinson said. “By definition, at this event there’s closeness – when you have 20,000 people pressed to the stage for three hours, it’s close – and that’s the way monkeypox is spread. Many of us who grew from childhood in the burnt out 'Sixties went to many concerts attended by tens of thousands of raucous fans, but we never had to worry about some fellow in the row behind trying to insert ... oh, never mind. Is that a problem in Nawluns now? I guess I won't go there.

Another gaslighting effort by the media. Monkeypox "seems to disproportionately affect gay and bisexual men..." SEEMS TO? How about the truth: Monkeypox is a disease spread by sexual contact between homosexuals and others who engage in sex with homosexuals.

Unfortunately I looked at a video of a festival in L.A., I think, have never seen anything so disgusting in my life and I'm so sorry I looked. Owner is probably trying to prevent at his event what they were doing in the streets in L.A. In the video I watched, police were just standing around, watching. How did we get to this place in society? And they need to stop acting like anyone can catch it. Did you notice babies are getting it and do you just wonder how? I don't, I think I already know.

How can God bless a city, New Orleans, and a state, La., that sponsors something called, "Southern DECADENCE?" About six months ago, after 33 years for me and a lifetime for my wife, we left the state that has earned its reputation. In the last 5-10 years, it has gone downhill fast. Due to the population exodus, it has lost two U.S. House Reps. It ranks third in corrupt public officials, both elected and law enforcement. Finally, for the state that has tremendous potential, it is its own worst enemy.

By now you know the story of the raid on Donald Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fla., but since then, there’s been a pitched debate in the chattering class on TV and the media about Trump’s ability to declassify information. And since he did declassify items, why is it an alleged crime now to possess those documents? I may have the beginnings of an answer. It’s indisputable that the president may classify and declassify documents. The office of the president has had this authority since World War II. President Obama codified the executive authority to do it in an Executive Order. Even the Washington Post had to admit that.

Two years ago, I moved into a house on a golf course, so I have been learning golf — although learning is probably too generous a word. I am profoundly, terribly, remarkably awful, actually. When I get out on a golf course, I eschew the women's tee, which is closer to the hole than the men's tee, in favor of the children's tee, which is even closer. Before I started golfing, I didn't realize that women got to start closer to the hole. Now I understand why: men are stronger. Much stronger. And that's why it matters that a man named Hailey Davidson is competing

“Street takeovers” are becoming quite common in Los Angeles and big cities. A mob of people and cars, responding to a prompt on social media, show up at an intersection and raise holy hell. Police try to break it up but are usually far too late. Such was the case on August 15 when a flash mob showed up at Figueroa Street and El Segundo Boulevard. After a few minutes of causing mayhem on the streets, they moved into a 7-Eleven store like a swarm of locusts. They picked it clean of anything of value in a matter of minutes. As Joe Biden’s polls stagnate and the midterms approach, we are now serially treated to yet another progressive melodrama about the dangers of a supposed impending radical right-wing violent takeover. This time the alleged threat is a Neanderthal desire for a “civil war.” The FBI raid on Donald Trump’s Florida home, the dubious rationale for such a historic swoop, and the popular pushback at the FBI and Department of Justice from roughly half the country have further fueled these giddy “civil war” conjectures. Recently “presidential historian” Michael Beschloss speculated about the parameters of such an envisioned civil war. Beschloss is an ironic source. Just days earlier, he had tweeted references

Some polls show Democrats looking better, especially in key Senate races where Republicans have nominated weak candidates. From branding parents speaking out against critical race theory and sexual ideology in schools as terrorists to the Mar-a-Lago raid, Attorney General Merrick Garland’s radicalized Justice Department transforms pre-election political opposition into national security threats. The infamous DOJ letter on schools was sent out a month before the gubernatorial election in Virginia, where the National School Board Association, not to mention much of the D.C. establishment, is based. Much as Garland’s DOJ operatives feared, the school protests helped elect Gov. Glenn Younkin and nearly toppled New Jersey’s Democrat governor in the bargain. According to an article in the Chronicle of Higher Education, Black student enrollment in American colleges and universities has declined dramatically in the past ten years, 24 percent in fact, from 2.5 million students in 2010 to 1.9 million in 2020. Prior to that ten-year period, argues Chronicle reporter Oyin Adedoyin, “The story of Black college students in the USA was a narrative of success.” Judging only by numbers, Adedoyin is right. Black population on campus grew nine-fold from 1966 to 2010. The decline since 2010 puzzles administrators given the thousands of DEI officers they have hired and the myriad enticements they have offered to Black students.
