Up until around August of 2021, I was doing some contract work with a Gannett/USA Today Network paper. A friend, who happened to be one of their reporters, and I had put together a podcast and had some minor local success with it. We were able to bring in local businesses and craftspeople to talk about their inspirations, hobbies, families, and how all of these things impacted what they did.
The podcast was about two years old when I was told that we couldn’t continue. The order was given to minimize contractor work to save money. It wasn’t the first time
This is the company that ruined The Army,Navy, Air Force,Marine Corps Times, etc.
They turned them into left wing rags and then sold them off. They are now worthless rags.

No one will pay for your lies? Perhaps you could sell Truth? But where would you find writers who could write truth? Fire all of your professional leftist liars and start over with truth.
Never going to happen. They'll go out of business before they'll stop the leftist propaganda.

Most of their articles appear to be cut & paste material from Twitter (or worse). They are a jumble of liberal talking points with no depth.

I don't even get our local paper. I am sick of looking at all of the liberal editorials and comments. Why would I get a national paper? I miss reading the comics etc. but not worth it. . .

The real problem is newspapers are the modern equivalent of buggy whips. The market for old news is limited to the old folks at home. Online "print", streaming, and broadcast are the delivery systems of fresh, updated news content. Video content is a must. And the newspapers, like those buggy whip manufacturers, just don't get it. Their ink stained wretches don't produce any of that. And what they do produce is...questionable, delivered with a viewpoint. As they say, maybe the dogs don't like the dog food.

I always took the local paper, and the WSJ. I’d read USA Today when traveling for business and it was free at hotels. Eventually there was no point, they gutted the local news coverage, they’d just pick up NYT, AP and WaPo for National “news”, and the editorials were predictably left. Moved to “red” Idaho, but the local press is no different, so no thanks. I still get the WSJ, at least for now, the editorial page is tolerable, the rest of it is pretty much MSM party line though.

RE#8 Once upon a time, I would sit down Sunday morning with my cup of coffee, or three, and read the Sunday newspaper.
Now, I sit down with my coffee and cell phone and peruse current news in real time from multiple sources.
I would posit that the true benefits of newspapers today are: Puppy training, Bird cage lining, packing material and starting fires in the fireplace.

Part of the reason is right in the headline propaganda being repeated across the media "recession fears". Truth be told we r by definition in recession.

Maybe Gannett would be doing better if its newspapers had not talked down to, disparaged, sneered at their readers.

Ever since I could read I've loved all print media and that included news papers. My parents used to get the local paper delivered by the paperboy throwing it at our door. That thud we heard in the morning let us know that Andy (a friend of mine and my brothers) put it there. I used to get the local paper, USA Today, WSJ, and The Washington Times. That in the 90s before the internet took off and everyone became a .COM, .ORG of a .NET. Now you could've give a newspaper to me for free as the majority have become leftist rags that aren't worthy of being fish wrap or a puppy potty training tool. And yes #1 that company ruined the Navy Times which I used to read when I was active duty.
