In the state-level struggle for the future of America, there can be little doubt: The Red State model of free markets, low taxes, and minimal regulation is beating the daylights out of the Blue State model of top-down control, high taxes, and pervasive nanny-state regulation. But will it last? The Wall Street Journal, deploying data from the center-left Brookings Institution, last month reported that Blue states, those governed by Democrats, were still 1.3 million jobs short of where they were before the COVID-19 pandemic. Red states, those led by Republicans, had managed to add 350,000 jobs. A big reason

Our esteemed Governor, with his usual eloquent brilliance: “ Freedom is under attack by Republican leaders in states like Florida. Banning books. Restricting speech. Making it harder to vote. Criminalizing women and doctors. I urge all of you to join us in California, where we still believe in freedom. Freedom of speech. Freedom to choose.” These are the words of a clueless moron!

Difficult to notice that dem politicians traveled during the pandemic to take vacations in Florida to get around the restrictions that they imposed on their own states.

I am bothers that both parties are more concerned by their district needs rather than the country needs. State elected officials should handle state issues. Both parties have ignored The Constitutional requirements to keep the country safe from foreign and domestic enemies. What we need are "New Parties" that are neither "R" or "D".

Neither my wife or I got the mRNA shots, but we kept up our Vitamin D levels, and we went out to restaurants at least two nights a week the whole time. We always ignored the mask regs, very rarely getting pushback, primarily in med facilities - where they should know better. The data from the Diamond Princess cruise ship indicated that 80% of the people closely exposed for 10-12 days on a cruise ship with zero precautions in Feb-March 2020 did NOT get infected. This is likely to be about the proportion that would get infected in the general population, since the ship had about 3700 people on board, a substantial test sample. Likely 80% of people had a pre-existing immunity to corona viruses from the corona virus "common cold" which has been endemic essentially "forever".

As recently as two weeks ago, the big story of the day was the coming surge of a new, highly infectious COVID variant, called BA.5. The Biden administration warned about it. Los Angeles county considered renewing its indoor mask mandate. The head of the World Health Organization said that “new waves of the virus demonstrate again that the Covid-19 [pandemic] is nowhere near over.” [snip] Well, the data from the Centers for Disease Control show that the number of new infections has remained pretty flat since late May and is now trending downward. In, fact, the rate of new infections appears to have topped out right when

Climate Emergency? What A Crock, Part 2 17 replies

Just last week, congressional Democrats were urging President Joe Biden to declare a climate emergency because some Americans were enduring a patch of hot weather. Though more than a bit meshuga, they couldn’t match the fever of Bill Weir. The CNN chief climate correspondent said, also last week, that “the fate of life on earth is at stake” because Washington isn’t doing more to cool the planet. Yet again, pieces of a puzzle a pre-schooler could put together in a couple of minutes are missing. One of those lost pieces is the surface temperature record that the climate alarmists tell us is evidence

After Richard Nixon’s landslide victory over leftist George McGovern in 1972, New York Times movie critic Pauline Kael supposedly said: “How could Nixon have won? Nobody I know voted for him.” This weekend, current New York Times columnist Paul Krugman outdid Kael in the utterly-clueless-liberal-bubble department. On CNN Sunday, Krugman said that the big problem with the economy today is that media are unfairly writing negative stories about it. “I think that what’s happening now is that there’s been a kind of a negativity bias in coverage,” he said. Then Krugman went full Kael,

Among President Joe Biden’s main promises upon entering office in early 2021 was that he would unite Americans and end the divisiveness that plagues our politics. His first inaugural address, which he titled “America United,” was largely dedicated to the idea. But as the latest I&I/TIPP Poll shows, despite the laudable intent, it’s yet another failure on Biden’s part, perhaps the most serious one of all. Revisiting his inaugural speech, Biden had stirring words about the idea of bringing Americans back together, even amid profound political disagreements: “We can join forces, stop the shouting and lower the temperature. For without unity there is no peace,

In retaliation for a series of setbacks in the European courts, the fundamentalist Iranian regime has been accused of instigating terrorist threats to attack an annual rally of anti-regime dissidents and their supporters in Albania, leading to the postponement of the event on security grounds. The rally was scheduled to take place over the weekend of 23 and 24 July in Ashraf 3, headquarters of the People’s Mojahedin of Iran/ Mojahedin-e Khalq (PMOI/MEK). In January 2020 Albania’s Prime Minister Edi Rama expelled the Iranian ambassador and his first secretary for planning a terrorist bomb attack on the PMOI/MEK.

If Democratic lawmakers had to comply with federal truth-in-advertising laws, they’d all be up on charges for the blatantly false name given to the “Inflation Reduction Act.” President Joe Biden claimed last week that “this bill will, in fact, reduce inflationary pressure on the economy.” In fact, it won’t. It was never meant to. The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School examined the bill. Here’s what it concluded. “The impact on inflation is statistically indistinguishable from zero.” Worse, “the Act would very slightly increase inflation until 2024 and decrease inflation thereafter.” In other words,

"For the first time in a decade, our economy is in recession. But it’s still listed on the recession roster. Today Bernstein, who sits on President Joe Biden’s Council of Economic Advisers, is trying to argue

Health care costs in the U.S. are too high. We all agree on that. But it’s important to define the word “high” and put costs in proper context. [snip] Health spending is always measured as a percentage of GDP to show how the U.S. spends “too much” on health care. But the following graph puts health care spending in better context: This graph, developed by blogger Random Critical Analysis, explains U.S. health care spending better than any other. It shows spending is appropriate when compared to household disposable income (HDI). Health care spending in the U.S. as a percentage of HDI is reasonable, as the shaded area shows.

Suffice it to say, if you like socialism, you’ll love it. Because it involves a radical transformation of our economy that brings the end of private ownership of things like cars, phones, laptops, and other electronic devices.

When WNBA star Brittney Griner was convicted on drug charges Thursday, she was not merely sentenced to nine years in a normal jail or prison. She was given time in a Russian penal colony, which is quite different than a normal correctional facility. Russia's penal colonies are descendants of the notorious Soviet-era gulags where prisoners have been subjected to harsh treatment and poor conditions. Prisoners in the system have been beaten by other inmates, endured torture and forced to watch Russian propaganda for hours every day in what's known as "awareness raising." Following several days of Griner's trial, which stemmed
