A Virginia eatery has added an inflation fee, as restaurants across the United States are grappling with record-breaking costs of raw goods, materials and labor. Sunset Grill owner Leslie Whitney said she and her husband thought 'long and hard' before charging customers a 3.5percent inflation fee in order to cope with widespread economic pain. 'Doing menu changes in accordance with daily rising prices was not reasonable, as we would have been printing and reprinting two or three times a week,' Whitney told CBS6. Hundreds of thousands of restaurant owners across America, who are still reeling from post-pandemic woes, are now fighting to keep their businesses afloat amid inflation

Sorry, restaurants have priced themselves out of my budget. They can ask for 3.5% if they like. Might as well be 35% because 35% of $0.00 is all I will be paying.

Call it the Biden Equity Tax, since you all voted for him. Might as well give credit to your master.

Mrs. Rama 41 and I have made a point of regular visits to four or five local family diners, starting with the pandemic and continuing. Thanks to Bidenmoney, every single one remains understaffed and overworked. We tip generously and encourage others to do likewise.

I think all restaurants should do that instead of raising the menu prices. Show everyone why they are paying more and whose fault it is. (yes, there are some who don't realize that.) (Probably mostly Democrats)

Restaurant still taking a hit at just 3.5% should be at least 10% to break even.

At least they are honest about it. The customer can choose to eat there or go elsewhere. Restaurants are all priced too high now but the grocery store is no bargain either. FJB and the cow he rode in on.

Decades ago, during one of the early oil crashes, a fine- dining place in Houston offered prie fixe lunch selection tied to the cost of a barrel of West Texas Intermediate Crude.

Some of our local eateries are charging 3.5% to use debit or credit cards. Cash is good to go.

I like the idea. Show the customers why their prices are up. Put Brandon's image on the check, too, like those on gas pumps.. 'I Did That'.

The liberals, communists [ I repeat myself] who brought this plague, who needlessly locked down the working population instead of the most frail, who forced poisonous “vaccines” that decimated the recipients and hobbled a major portion of the survivors, brought this inflation. They also helped bring it by throwing money at a war we shouldn’t be involved with. This inflation is not a failure, but a feature of this stolen administration.

I have been handling inflation by not buying it. I haven't had any increase in money coming in, actually more going out, and not just in spending on essentials, but declines in the value of all assets.

Can't afford to eat out due to Brandon. But it is just as painful to buy groceries.

I always have a diet Coke with my meal. They are now going for at least $3.25. I may have to re-think. Best thing would be to eat at home.

The only logical response to this is to not patronize the restaurant.

I just got an email from Verizon. It said next month they will charge me $12,00 i9n addition to my regular bill. I suppose it is some kind of inflation surcharge

Restaurants need to profit to keep the business going and to keep the staff employed. The tax revenue from the restaurants allows the city to serve the community and the residents. And what will the BLM and the Antifa do if they don't have the restaurants to burn, destroy and loot?

My two bits say the owners are Republicans, wanting to emphasize he reason for increased prices without hiding the increases in the menu prices. Great idea.
Most would be shocked to see the small profit margins that most restaurants operate with. Lowest food costs have been in Asian and Mexican restaurants. Food cost, labor costs. rents, utilities, other overhead expenses.
I have owned restaurants.

Re #9. that % represents the % amount that the banks and credit card companies charge the restairants who accept their cards. American Express was always higher, and at one time Diiner’s was 12%. No one in their right mind took Diner’s.

Make a game out of it in the name of Equity. Did you vote for Bidet or for Trump in 2020? Then assess the surcharge accordingly. It might work despite Democrats being dishonest because none of them would ever admit to having voted for The Donald.
