As the United States continues to come to grips with the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, I cannot stop thinking about how the court used a legal system built entirely by men to diminish women — once again — into nothing more than a vessel for producing babies.
I am a rabbi in a legal system that excluded women for thousands of years, much like the legal system that the Supreme Court relied on in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. But unlike the American legal system, the Jewish tradition, in certain respects, including abortion, found a way to craft laws grounded in equal dignity for women.

The Supreme Court took no position on abortion they merely moved the deciders closer to the people.

From her writing , it's a safe bet that she's an ultra liberal that voted for joey. How does she feel about late term and post birth abortions?

This “rabbi” wants to enshrine a constitutional right to kill the pre-born where none exists …some “rabbi.”

I am a woman. I am saying this just so I can clarify that I do not say the following as someone who has no experience.
It wasn't a woman who commanded the serpents to depart in Egypt. It wasn't a woman who began the Israelite priesthood. It is true the Kabbalah (the genuine mysticism of Orthodox Judaism, not the new age red yarn wearing Madonna idiots that disregard the Kabbalistic tradition of only men who are 40 and older and have been married and studied the Torah for years and years...) speaks of the dual nature of G-d ie being both male and female, and by dishonoring one side dishonors the other, but it does not mean that women are excluded from religious life. I have always felt it hugely suspect when a woman starts blathering about wanting more power in a religious community. It turns out it is never about a woman's ability to be given the same voice as others. It ALWAYS turns out to be some narcissistic control freak who wants to be the one to order others around. A woman's human nature is absolutely no different than MEN. Just because you have squishy reproductive parts doesn't absolve you of any sin. Women are just as [curse word here] as men!!! And need to be held JUST AS RESPONSIBLE.
Need examples? Pelosi, Amber Heard, Meghan Markle, Hillary Clinton, Gloria Steinham [msp?], Michelle Obama [sic]...I could go on and on.

The rabbi is only partly correct. Her interpretation of the tract in Exodus is valid, i.e., a fetus is not equivalent to a born person and mortally injuring it carries less legal culpability than mortally injuring the mother. However, the analysis does not end there. While Halacha, Jewish law requires saving the mother when the choice is mother or child, that does not mean the fetus is of no value and can be killed on a whim. Abortion is only allowed to save a mother from serious harm, not to simply avoid the inconvenience of an unplanned pregnancy. Extrapolating Halacha, which protects women, to conveniencing women is to diminish both women and Halacha.
Finally, talking as if the SCOTUS outlawed abortion is simply not valid. It merely said that, as a Constitutional matter, abortion is not a Constitutional right and, therefore, its governance is not a federal matter but is reserved to the people and the states. This is because matters not delegated to the federal government by the Constitution remain under the purview or the states. Like prohibition of yesteryear, for the federal government to take control of it required a Constitutional amendment, just like it took another one to undue prohibition.

From the article: "into nothing more than a vessel for producing babies." Last time I checked, women are not forced to have babies. . .

The bible is a remarkable story of the emergence of the judaic people and their understanding of GOD. It is clear in the old testament that devotees believed that infants in the womb were formed by God, and that special protections were afforded pregnant women. The cited exodus text states that if a miscarriage is caused, the folks responsible must pay a fine of any size demanded by the husband and the courts. Seems like a lot of protection to me! Other texts expunge guilt from natural miscarriage, and allow an attempt at miscarriage from rape and to protect the health of mother (as I recall). Sounds to me like a pretty fair dinkum set of protections….and all without arguing about some bright line of when a clump of cells is a baby.
For we Christians, whose underlying judaic faith is the basis for a less formalistic faith… the Didache text in the first century CE: states”do not murder a child by abortion or kill a new-born infant.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Didache).

Really? Then why did God waste time, resources and creativity to create two separate and different genders? Wouldn’t it be easier and more equitable to have created a unisex?

Your Rabinacle traditions mean nothing to God. He gave us His Word to live by, not the "traditions" of sinful mankind. He's what our Lord God says about "gender equality"...
----
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.”
Gen 2:18
---
(whoa... a"helper?" - not much gender equality there, huh?)

"grounded in equal dignity for women. "
Women? That's sex, not gender. God is more committed to sexual equality, as our deranged "gender" anthropology has allowed men to compete in women's categories, and in many cases to become the women's champion. Unless we put a stop to that madness soon, we can anticipate a day when every top woman could be just another woke bloke...

The safest place in the universe for an unborn baby should be its mother's uterus. Anything that befouls that environment, be it drugs, alcohol, a coat hanger, or an abortionist's instruments, cannot be smiled upon by God.

Get real. If God or Nature were 'gender equal' we would still be fur covered and swinging through trees of some fetid equatorial swamp. Gorillas, Chimps and humans have descended from a common ancestor, branching out 4.5 million years ago. Why are the other two still apes? Its because our direct ancestors started pursuing a life style that favored intellect and larger brains. Which required that males (1) stop scattering their seed (2) match the investment made by females in bringing up progeny. This requires radical change in behavior ONLY on part of males. Females have to do nothing. Why should the males doit. The answer I believe is the reward which is patriarchal culture and male dominance Take that away and you get a complete collapse of order and culture - what you see in America's inner cities today..
Every anthropologist worth his salt knows this but will not publicly admit it for fear of losing his livelihood.

No, Lauren. The Constitution isn't all about you and your lady parts. It addresses a framework for peaceful preservation of a nation in a time of subsistence level agriculture and brutal combat that could often be found outside one's own door (which is why even the richest man alive in 1787 would have been grateful for the quality of life enjoyed by any occupant of a homeless shelter, today.) When you and your kind abandoned that framework in 1973 in favor of a quick and dirty parlor trick you set the stage for 50 years dead-end, alleyway jurisprudence until the wrong could be righted. You started it. We finished it. Now, please get help for your personality disorder. It's not all about you and your vagina.

You do NOT speak for most Jews, "Rabbi" Holtzblatt. The Torah does NOT condone abortion on demand. You are contorting its meaning beyond recognition, just as left-wing Supreme Court Justices have contorted the US Constitution.

God has His own definition and implementation of gender equality, He just leaves it alone and lets it work itself out but mankind interferes promoting themselves as God so, God moves on to some other topic of concern

If gender is just a social construct (as the same people tell us), then there is no such thing as a woman. If there's no such thing as a woman, then women's rights is dead. Done in by themselves, not by the overturning of Roe-v-Wade.
