The good Samaritan who shot and killed the gunman who opened fire in the Greenwood Park Mall in Indiana on Sunday afternoon reportedly broke the property's policy against weapons. The suspected shooter entered the mall on Sunday carrying a rifle and multiple magazines and opened fire in the food court, killing at least three and injuring three before he was shot to death. Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison said the suspected shooter was killed by a "good Samaritan with a handgun."
While the armed bystander reportedly had a legal gun permit, the mall's property policy does not permit weapons on the premises.

So we can expect the "good samaritan who killed mall shooter" to be prosecuted, and his life ruined, right?

I thought I had read somewhere that on other than federal property you can carry a legal firearm into any place even if it says "no firearms" as long as you have a CCP or are in an open carry state.

Good for the 22 year old who stepped up and confronted the killer instead of running away. EVERY lawyer and official of the Greenwood Park Mall should kiss his feet. EVERY victim should sue the lawyers and officials of the Greenwood Park Mall who insisted on telling the public no guns are allowed on their 'private' property. IF you want to be Big Brother and disarm the public, who you entice to enter your 'private' property, then BE Big Brother and have armed guards and secure entry points to your mall. Otherwise you are guilty of lethal negligence. Of course liberals NEVER do that, except in DC or their bunker compounds. They pretend a sign will protect children and the public. When the signs fail, they rage against legal, responsible gun owners, like the 22 yr old hero who saved lives at their unprotected killing mall. The evil media is their greatest resource for defending and continuing the disarming of responsible citizens, while doing nothing to treat, control and imprison dangerous mental defectives.

I guess they need to resurrect the killer and let him kill freely.

I live in Indiana in the Chicago land area. My understanding of carry laws is I can't go into a federal building like a post office, the County Courthouse, and it's a good idea not to carry a gun into a public school or a bar. For pretty obvious reasons.
Unless something has radically changed that I don't know about, the gun free zone sticker is not worth the vinyl it's printed on.

Time to roll in on mall owners and get policy changed. Boycott whatever consortium owns these malls. Demand armed cops (not pepper spray mall cops) posted every 100 feet 24-7. The cost will drive them to consider changing gun policies. It may be unconstitutional to have gun free zones in public areas. I don’t know ?

I was of the understanding that there had to be conspicuous signage, specifically banning the carrying of guns, to make a place a true gun-free zone! A sign stating, "'Legal Concealed Carry Holders Welcome" would be the way to go!

Predictably the Corrupt media, NewsWeak in particular, emphasized the Hero who killed the Villain broke the rules. 40 lashes with a wet noodle should suffice as punshiment for saving countless lives!

#6 is on the right path. The no guns signage is not law. The proprietor can ask you to leave and if you don't you can be prosecuted for trespassing.

The Mall should give the shooter a reward!! I don't go to places in Texas where a 30.06 sign is posted no firearms. It's private property and they can do that if they want. I'm a big believer in private property. But they won't get my business either because I conceal carry all the time. They don't care because they would rather be "woke" than get my business and I don't care to give them my business! Go "woke" go broke! But gun free zones are where the shooters go knowing some private citizen won't respond with gun fire. My guess is the mall shooter was taken by surprise!!

I guess the mall shooter didn't take the time to read the rules before shooting and injuring people. Good thing the Good Samaritan did not waste time reading the mall rules before entering because then more people would have been killed or injured. Interesting how Newsweek focused on the law abiding citizen who saved people and ignored the murderer who shot up the food court breaking the mall rules regarding weapons.

The armed defender likely saved dozens of lives by killing the shooter. He should get an award, not criminal charges. The MSM's silence will be deafening. They and the Democrats--but I repeat myself--would prefer a pile of corpses. That way they can make more useless noise.
An essential part of the CCW permit policy is learning the places where a firearm may not be legally carried. Most of those locations are self explanatory: schools, post offices, government buildings, police stations, bars (in Florida), "places of trouble" (strip clubs, marijuana dispensaries, etc.), and professional sporting events with a public gate, public conventions with a gate (exception: gun shows). Banks are okay, after all, people bring money and valuables in and out of banks. I've surreptitiously carried my gun into my bank dozens of times. No one was the wiser. That gun wasn't coming out unless a bank robber came into the branch.
You have to use common sense, but most places are okay for armed permit holders. Any mall or shopping center, movie theater, opera house, or stand alone business that is a posted "gun free zone" will get none of my business.

We, and especially the potential next victims, are all thankful the Samaritan broke this silly rule. It appears that no person has faulted the Samaritan; the article merely cites the owners' "code of conduct," which utterly failed to keep the perp from walking in with an AR-15.

I lived across the street from Greenwood Park Mall for many years. I currently live about 2 miles away. My daughter-in-law works at the apartment complex where the shooter lived. It has just been reported that he had placed his lap top, and a butane canister into his very hot oven. Looking to blow it up. If that young man had not been there with his gun many, many more people would have been killed. A "gun free zone" simply translates into "free turkey shoot". If you can carry do it. You never know when it might save your life or the life of someone else.

It's the mall's policy. Not a law.
"No Weapons Allowed" signs do not carry the force of law in Indiana. All a business owner can do is ask you to leave and have you trespassed.

Sounds like a civil issue, but he wasn't trespassed, so the law has nothing on him. Unlike the NYC Bodega clerk who was charged with murder for shooting his attacker.

If I'm a mall owner. Do I want to be sued by lets say 15-20 families of dead relatives because I did not have proper security against a shooter?.....OR be thankful someone took the shooter out , realize my 'gun free' zone is idiotic and just pay a law suit to 3 families of 3 people killed in the shooting.

Yes, and if he had been asked to leave, and had refused, he could have been arrested for trespassing.
Big whoop.
Drop dead. Far, far better than he did what he did and saved many lives.
Personally, I do this all the time. BUT.....understand your state laws. In some states the laws are very different and violating signage can be criminal, but that is unusual other than court houses, etc.
Each state laws are different. In Kansas, if the signage isn't a literally exact copy of the AG's sign which is provided as an online image for all to copy and use, the signage is invalid. And it must be located at a certain height, not higher or lower, and within a certain distance of EVERY entrance to be
valid.
Know your state's laws.

I have a carry permit. In my state, if you carry into a business that has a sign out front prohibiting concealed carry and someone finds out you’re armed, all the business owner can do is ask you to leave.
I routinely encounter a movie theater, or a restaurant, or another retail establishment that has one of those signs out front. Just as routinely, I disregard them.

Weird. Not a word about the shooter carrying gun into thermal. Guess so long as you intend to murder as many people as possible the Mall doesn't give a rat's rear end. But all Hades reign down on the concealed Carry owner that lawfully protects his life and the lives of thousands of shopper.

Well, IF the "good samaritan" is charged for ANYTHING, we'll have to find a way to help with his defense. GoFundMe will not be an option, since they are WOKE and would likely take down such a page. As for the mall management, I'd like to think they'll be deluged with emails and letters to discontinue their stupid "policy."

What a dumb bunny this writer is. I note she ignores the carnage and the fact the shooter ignored the rules and brought a weapon to do harm with. But never mind that, somebody stopped him and therefore he must be attacked by Newsweak's writer. I am guessing if she had the guts to talk to those shoppers who were present, she might get the fight of her life trying to escape with her fanny intact after they finished chewing on it.
