The number of flight cancellations over the last six months has already surpassed last year’s totals, positioning 2022 to become one of the worst years on record. Thousands of flights were canceled in the days leading up to the Fourth of July holiday weekend, with airlines reporting 121,918 cancellations between Jan. 1 and the end of June — compared to 121,552 for all of 2021, according to data from FlightAware. A large portion of those was canceled over the last month, with more flights being canceled in June 2022 than any June in previous years.

The EU requires substantial payments to customers for flight delays and cancellations based on variables such as time and distance to destination. The US should adopt similar rules. The airlines are grossly overextended, many running fleets of contract carriers to ditch their legacy work rules and unions. It's as much an issue of bad schedule management as "labor shortage." If you can't staff the flights, take them off the schedule until you can. People wanted "cheap" air transport, and this is a result.

Inflation accelerated to an explosive 9.1% for the 12 months ending in June, according to the consumer price index, the highest level in four decades. The much-anticipated numbers reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics on Wednesday revealed that inflation is still going strong despite the Federal Reserve's interest rate hikes and is near the worst it has been since the Great Inflation that helped bring President Ronald Reagan to office. The soaring inflation has eaten into President Joe Biden’s approval ratings as he and Democrats approach the midterm elections. Consumer prices have been rising fast since last August, especially for staples such as food and gas.

There are certain numerical milestones that hold particular significance, and that’s especially true for certain statistical categories. For instance, when a baseball player’s batting average dips below the .200 level, a point at which he is considered to be below “The Mendoza Line” in traditional baseball vernacular, we know he’s having a rough time at the plate. But if the numbers also show that he is on pace to strikeout 190 times during a season, it sheds even more light on his poor performance. He’s not just making a lot of outs; he’s making a lot of unproductive outs.

Vice President Kamala Harris was caught with another course of word salad, this time during an interview with CBS News. Following the historic Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, CBS News correspondent Robert Costa asked Harris on Friday whether Democrats both in the White House and in Congress "failed" to codify the federal protection of abortions in the nearly 50 years since the precedent was established. "I think that, to be very honest with you, I do believe that we should have rightly believed, but we certainly believe that certain issues are just settled. Certain issues are just settled," Harris responded.

Trump's statement was posted on his Truth Social platform on Friday. The relationship between the two world leaders emerged as one of the strongest bilateral friendships that Trump made during his presidency. "Absolutely devastating news that former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe of Japan, a truly great man and leader, has been shot, and is in very serious condition. He was a true friend of mine and, much more importantly, America.

It’s a fairly common phenomenon, though we normally see it with adolescents and teenagers. They bite the hand that feeds them, then come back with their tails between their legs pleading for help. The 14-year-old lashes out at Dad for making him cut the lawn, then asks him for $200 for a new pair of Adidas shoes that same afternoon. The newly licensed driver says, “Yeah, yeah, yeah” on her way out the door with the car keys as Mom reminds her to drive safely, and then calls home in tears two hours later after she gets into a fender-bender. The plight of female basketball star Brittney Griner relating to her arrest on drug charges in Russia earlier this year is even more uncertain than ever. Yesterday in a court near Moscow, the legal prosecution of Ms. Griner finally began, with her trial kicking off in an abbreviated session. Prosecutors had intended to call on four witnesses, but only two showed up to give testimony. Cameras were not allowed in the courtroom, but footage of Griner entering the proceedings showed her sporting a white and black Jimi Hendrix t-shirt. Media reports after the court had adjourned explained that during her time in the courtroom,

The prospect of an imminent “Red Wave” coming in November’s midterm elections has been widely reported, as the Democrats have been in self-destruct mode since before President Joe Biden was even sworn into office eighteen months ago. Among other unforced errors, Biden and the Democrats have destroyed our economy, irrevocably damaged our national security by opening our borders, and have thoroughly deprived millions of Americans of their basic rights in an alleged attempt to protect us in an unwinnable battle against a Chinese virus. One need not look any further than the devastating surge we’re currently seeing in gasoline prices for evidence of the Democrats’ complete implosion,

Fears have been raised about the future of artificial intelligence after a robot was found to have learned 'toxic stereotypes' from the internet. The machine showed significant gender and racial biases, including gravitating toward men over women and white people over people of colour during tests by scientists. It also jumped to conclusions about peoples' jobs after a glance at their face. 'The robot has learned toxic stereotypes through these flawed neural network models,' said author Andrew Hundt, a postdoctoral fellow at Georgia Tech who co-conducted the work as a PhD student working in Johns Hopkins' Computational Interaction and Robotics Laboratory in Baltimore, Maryland.

There are various ways in which political parties raise campaign funds. One of the primary sources currently is via online efforts. But every party still conducts the old-fashioned fundraisers, with one-on-one, face-to-face contact. They have highfalutin dinners where everyone gets dressed up in their fanciest duds and listens to politicians talk about how great they are and how much they need their money. The organizers charge thousands of dollars per person for admission to an event that only costs a couple of hundred, the political party pockets the difference, and voila – positive cash flow into the politicians coffers.

The US has inflicted more than $1.9tn in damage to other countries from the effects of its greenhouse gas emissions, according to a new analysis that has provided the first measurement of nations’ liability in stoking the climate crisis. The huge volume of planet-heating gases pumped out by the US, the largest historical emitter, has caused such harm to other, mostly poor, countries through heatwaves, crop failures and other consequences that the US is responsible for $1.91tn in lost global income since 1990, the study found. This puts the US ahead of China, currently the world’s leading emitter, Russian, India and Brazil as the next largest contributors to global

Jennings observed that given DeSantis’ popularity, specifically with conservatives across the country, he is a Trump-like figure without the baggage. Jennings said: “I definitely think there are a lot of Republicans out there who voted for Donald Trump twice, maybe gave him money, wanted to see him succeed who know we cannot drag the country and the party through this again in 2024, that he’s the least likely Republican to have a chance to win the White House …

The Brittney Griner story has been one which tears at us from two sides. When we hear about an American being detained in a foreign country for offenses which are considered minor here in the U.S., we often become sympathetic, depending on the infraction, of course. And when we learn that the country holding that prisoner is an archrival or enemy such as China, Iran, North Korea, or Russia, our sympathies become that much stronger. In the case of Brittney Griner, however, things aren’t that simple. Griner, who has been detained in a Russian prison since her arrest at a Moscow airport for possession of cannabis oil

In addition, 54 percent of young people aged 19 to 39 concur, regardless of their political association. The survey of 1,025 U.S. voters was divided among party lines, with 53 percent of Democrats in favor of abolishing the current Supreme Court and replacing it with a “new, democratically elected . . . court with justices chosen by the American people directly,” and 33 percent “strongly” in favor. Only 21 percent of Republicans and 38 percent of independents favored the ill-advised proposition.

Shocking video footage has emerged of a young child repeatedly hitting a Minnesota cop who was there to arrest a murder suspect — calling the officer a “b—h” and telling his colleague to “shut the f–k up!” The clip released by Alpha News was filmed last week in St. Paul, a city that saw widespread rioting after the nearby police murder of George of Floyd and manslaughter of motorist Daunte Wright. “Shut up, b—h!” screamed the young child, who appeared to be only a few years old and wearing just underwear while standing in the street, with an even younger child in a diaper just behind him.

Pro-abortion fanatic Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) has called to shut down crisis pregnancy centers “all around the country” for their work in helping women seek alternatives to abortion. Speaking with reporters, a visibly upset Warren falsely accused crisis pregnancy centers of fooling women out of getting an abortion: In Massachusetts, right now, those ‘crisis pregnancy centers’ that are there to fool people who are looking for pregnancy termination help outnumber true abortion clinics by 3-t0-1. We need to shut them down here in Massachusetts and we need to shut them down all around the country.

Democrats are facing their worst political environment in over a decade heading into November’s mid-term elections. Republicans lead the generic ballot and hold a solid structural advantage in competing for the House of Representatives. And despite concerns about candidate quality, the GOP is also favored to take control of the Senate. The correlation between presidential approval and their party’s mid-term prospects also can’t be ignored. Joe Biden has hit the lowest poll numbers of his term, with a recent Times/Siena poll showing him at just 33 percent approval with only 13 percent believing the country is on the right track.
