The Pentagon has made the announcement that it will refuse to recognize any abortion laws springing from the Supreme Court’s decision that there is no guaranteed right to abortion in the U.S. Constitution.Secretary of Defense Lloyd J. Austin III issued a statement on on Friday regarding the Supreme Court’s ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
“Nothing is more important to me or to this Department than the health and well-being of our Service members, the civilian workforce and DOD families,” the Pentagon chief announced.

The federal government has a degree of freedom on how business is conducted on its reservations, so a military hospital in Missouri performing abortions is beyond the purview of the state.

We now know several senior officials and officers in the pentagon ignored the direct orders of President Trump while he was Commander in Chief. They flat out lied about troop numbers and mission duration. When he is re-elected for the third time, he needs an investigation, court martials held and dishonorable discharges awarded plus removal of all pension benefits civilian or military.

State law does not necessarily extend to Federal reservations. And the ruling did not outlaw abortion, rather returning law and regulation-making authority to the states.

ROFLMAO. Women in the military get pregnant ON PURPOSE to avoid duty. If you have a problem with that, get back to me when you’re in a section of 11 members, 9 female, that has ALL NINE get pregnant to avoid deployment. This four star ape isn’t taking care of “service members” who are warfighters, he’s taking care of officers/NCO’s who play around with junior enlisted females and future baby mommas who play around while daddy is away. Witnessed it my entire career.

Since there's no constitutional right to an abortion, how can the federal government continue to offer abortions on any level per any state? If the federal government isn't halted from providing or funding abortions, we have accomplished very little. They can still force US taxpayers to participate in their sanctioned murders. I'm confused.

So apparently no military coup yet. Hopefully i read accurately.

I think TX law allows for people who know of medical staff who participated in an abortion procedure, that person is allowed to sue all involved. Maybe it was ruled unconstitutional, but Red state law makers will sort it out. Work arounds can/will be attempted. Any civilian MD licensed in such a state, who is under contract of the Military Treatment Facility (MTF), I think is in jeopardy of legal action and license revocation. Very interesting times, oh, and many thanks to you SCOTUS.

Guys, this is just a cheap way to virtue signal. OF COURSE the Pentagon is going to ignore this ruling: the ruling basically kicks abortion back to state law (where it probably should've been all along). As government entities, state law has no bearing on military bases and other facilities. SecDef is NOT taking some bold stand. This is meaningful only to the large number of idiots out there who don't know how thier own government works.

First, more than half of all abortions are done by pills.
Second, Austin and Millay are the worst two in their positions, ever. Neither should have ever had a star on the shoulder. They have no command presence. None. I pity the troops who are under their command. (Although it makes a bit of ironic sense to have two incompetent people in those positions, while an incompetent, demented man is president.)
Third, go back and read Garland's statement. He could have used those exact words to whine about Brown v. Board of Education, the U.S. Supreme Court decision that reversed Plessey v. Ferguson, 1896, which ruled that separate but equal was OK.
I place Garland in the same basket of incompetents with Austin and Millay.
Finally, Fox News had a graphic up that said the abortion decision was 5-4. I actually began to doubt my own comprehension skill until I could google the decision. weasel words. The entire mess of affirmative action in education came about because of dicta in the Bakke case.Roberts, and his half-azzed concurring decision was intended to lay a predicate to reopen the issue at some future time.
Chief Judas John Roberts will never change.

#16 ... I too was wondering what happened to "Man of the People", aka "motp"! You might be right.
A few posters (like 46) understand that this is nothing more than Biden/Austin/Garland playing to their progressive friends.
Of course all military bases ... like embassies and consulates of foreign countries ... are considered "outside" and thus exempt from local & state laws. They are basically an oasis in a dessert.
An enlisted birthing-person soldier can continue to receive an abortion at a military hospital located in any state that prevents that procedure from being provided to civilians. That's all this means.
If you get knocked-up while on a military base in Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, etc. --- you can terminate your pregnancy also on that base. You don't have to leave. Just like they have been doing for years!

What about the oath they swear: "I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same." At the risk of some objectivity or analysis, the military have been struggling with recruiting and retention for a long time. They don't like to admit it but they are losing the battle, to coin a phrase, thanks in large part to their PC nonsense.
However, the loosening of physical fitness standards etc. may seem like a sop to feminism but the sad truth is if they kept the standards unchanged many women (and men) would fail and be ineligible.
If you've visited an airport recently and spotted an Army unit in fatigues (utilities) then you have seen a rather startling number of squatty little Latino women in the ranks. According to those in the know, these women are filling many of the clerical and support roles. But their enlistment is based predominately on access to health care for themselves and their families ie they already have children. The Army definitely does not want them to have more children which will take the women off active duty for a long stretch of months and may even lead to their exiting the service.
In sum, the Army is attempting to hide shaky readiness/staffing behind a fig leaf of 'health and well-being.'

For anyone who hasn’t already realized how imbedded the radical left is in our government from top to bottom this should be the wake-up call. The president can order the military to comply with state laws as commander in chief. Of course he won’t and no one dares counter the Defense Secretary either for fear of having their careers sidetracked or worse, being charged with insubordination and arrested. I could not advise any family member joining the military at least until the radical liberal element has been purged. How can we expect military personnel to risk their lives for such politically corrupt leadership? How many solders are willing to die to defend the killing unborn children, the most defenseless of our society? We are a nation intent on destroying ourselves with radicalism, stupidity, treachery and government sanctioned lawlessness.

I've been studying military leadership for 51 years, as an enlisted sailor, officer, active duty, reservist, ashore, afloat, OIC, Commanding Officer, initiated Honorary Chief, and NJROTC instructor. With all that, I'm not an "expert" or "authority." But I must say that Lloyd Austin displays breathtaking ignorance if he thinks his primary duty is not the defense of this nation. The armed forces, as many of us graying veterans know, have become a petri dish for social experiments and pet agenda. As Rush would say, the armed forces exist to break things and kill our enemies. Politics and pandering have no place in the mission. I hope our next president of either party understands that. Unfortunately, our next president will likely be Kamala Harris, as Biden's decline can't be ignored much longer.
